why dont more working people buy vans?
it keeps your stuff dry and safe unlike if you load them in the back of your pickup. thoughts?

Trucks don't have a ceiling and they're more likely to have 4WD that's actually useful.
>>
Not a problem and not a problem.
Only plumbers and pedophiles use vans (same group, really).

Except that all those fleet trim pickups are 2WD anyway, and the vast majority of construction sites don't require the ground clearance and 4WD capability of a pickup truck. Most of them are flat dirt. That's why Europe gets by just fine with vans and van based flatbeds.

Nooooooobody gives a shit that Europe "gets by fine with vans". Seriously.

But you want to know what makes a pickup better than a van? Go haul around a bunch of wet trash, manure, etc and then clean out the van vs truck. Being separated from the load is a godsend. Inb4 >get a trailer

And data guys, and fire alarm guys, and some commercial electricians, and most anyone that does any sort of service work.

Trucks are great if you need to carry large, bulky items that won't fit in a van, but that's about all they're good for. A lot of trades can get away with using a pick up with a tool box in the back, the kind that sits right up near the window, since a lot of them only need a very basic selection of tools, maybe a drill, and that's about it. Works out great for giant commercial jobs, where you're at one site for a year or more, all the specialty tools are delivered by the warehouse guys and stay on the job for the duration, and all your material gets delivered by the supply houses.

For service work, small jobs, miscellaneous trouble shooting, and really most anything that isn't a fuckhuge commercial project, vans win. You just can't carry enough stuff in a truck, unless you get a cap with shelving built in, in which case you're just turning the truck into a smaller version of a van with less storage capacity anyway.

The average tradie on a big project needs a tool belt, maybe a bag, and one or two power tools of their own, and a truck box provides plenty of space for that. Even the passenger seat of the cab would be plenty of room. But when you need to have an SDS drill, circular saw, recip saw, corded drill, right angle drill, cordless drill, a selection of unistrut, threaded rod, hardware to fit, bits for the drills, miscellaneous conduit fittings, random brackets, and a selection of ladders, a truck just doesn't cut it.

I'm not saying that there aren't occupations where a truck (or van based flatbed) makes more sense. What I'm saying is that Americans are oblivious to when a van make more sense than a truck. And they go as far as buying a truck and expensive accessories to turn it into an inferior van.

I need a van, specifically a late 90s or early 2000s chevy 2500 for the 350 in it. Take that, drop it in rx7 shell, part out and scrap the van to make a profit/free engine.

In America, minivans are stigmatised as soccer-mom-mobiles, and full-size vans will make people think you're a pedo. Just the word "van" makes most people cringe. Why else do you think U-Haul calls them moving trucks instead of moving vans?
