Where do you park your trucks when you're on hometime? Where do you park your car when you're OTR? I've been parking at my local Petro for a year because it's 15 minutes from home but they left this shitty note under my windshield. A couple other times they've put a warning sticker on my car. The four wheeler lot is never close to full and I always park in the least desirable spot. I mean if I can't drive my car to my truck I don't know how else the fuck I'm supposed to go to work.

My last truck was a 2014 Camry, and I'll say that I much prefer the interior in this 2005 to the cheap crap that was in that freightliner. The most important point I'll say is that this truck has almost 2 million miles on the cab, and I have one rattle and it's on the driver side door lock and it doesn't rattle if the door is locked. The Camry had 300k and the dash panel screws were already so destroyed from being taken off twice that half of them rattled.

As for the long throws, the last driver put them on, they work well, and I don't believe in throwing my own money at another mans truck.

Yeah, I could see doing the jake/cruise controls with long throws on an old style dash switch setup, but that would be about it for me.

The other thing they did on those pimped out trucks that I never saw the point of was get these aftermarket engraved chrome switchplates for the diff and airbag controls, which were impossible to read at a distance, and doubly so if the sun was shining on them.

I had a similar experience with one of my former equipment operators that vouched for me when I applied to the sand hauling outfit, and ended up working along side with once I got hired.

He got hired before me, but ended up getting lapped because he refused to do the things he knew to do that would help distinguish himself.

He was always behind with his paperwork. He would constantly complain to me about getting in trouble about it with the office, but he would never take the extra ten minutes at the end of the day to do it up properly like myself and other senior drivers, and at month end, like clockwork, he would have to spend an hour and a half in the shop trying to figure everything out. His excuse was that a lot of other guys did the same thing, so why should he do any better, all the while never making the correlation that those other guys were lazy screwups.

He was always griping to our dispatchers about his situation involving the trucks too. First he was mad about having to slip seat and switch trucks once in a two week hitch (normal at that company). Then he got assigned a full time truck and was constantly complaining about the fact that the sleeper was small and that it was an older truck that they had spent a bunch of money fixing up and modernizing. Meanwhile I had got assigned the sister truck to it and operated it without a peep of complaint.

He ended up quitting with no notice after he asked to be put into a brand new, loaded Pete 389 and got adamantly turned down.

I told him how to do everything he asked but I swear it all went in one ear and out the other. he was a bit jelly because I got this new rig and these new trailers and asked me how I got em. I said I don't ask stupid questions, i don't complain about fuck all and if I'm ever asked to do something I do it. it's not difficult to just shut the fuck up and do your job. when he got in snit for the contaminated load I said to him, you can stop at any truck wash in any province and wash your trailers and get it billed right to the company you just have to ask for a credit card number. and the boss will pay you 20 dollars an hour for sweeping. if you want to get paid for every time you sweep keep track of how much you do everyday and put it on your trip sheet and get paid for it. personally I don't unless it's a meal load I have to shovel. there is no excuse for being fucking lazy

How hard is it to become a truck driver? I can't drive a regular car that well but then I don't have much practice as mummy rarely lets me drive it (I'm talking two times a year since the day I got my license, usually for "emergencies"). So how hard would it be given that I have little experience on a regular car?
Also, do I have to lift ANYTHING on the job? I have back problems and couldn't lift anything above 25 pounds as it could seriously hurt my back. Are there certain ways of avoiding lifting?

I'm really tempted to find an automatic even though the guy that's teaching me to drive manual (who's taught well over 100 people one on one) that my shifting is above standards for a drive test, so they must be pretty low.

Every tractor unit or and rigid has one, you put it in at the start of a shit and it records the hours driven, sat waiting or rest.

Every 4.5 hours you have to have a 45 minute rest, or within that 4.5 you can have a 15 and a 30 min.
If you go over, do not rest, you get an infringement, you have to download the data of the card every 28 days of work, that the amount it can hold.
The data goes straight to VOSA or some-other cunts whoms computer flag up any discrepancies and you get a £20,000 fine at the least.

So yeah apart from hating America from what I have seen of it and its people, maybe truckin' might be an option out there in a few years.

Prime's PSD program ain't too shabby and you'll make a hell of a lot more money than the other guys out of training, even as a PSD they advance you 200 a week and when you get signed on after getting your license you pay it back 25 bucks a week I made enough in my first year to cut them a check for the rest and paid it all off.

They have you sign a year contract but if you leave in 6 months you only owe like 1900 or something like that, most people stay their year because the pay is good enough. They start at like .46cpm and lightweights are .51cpm starting, compared to other megacompanies they aren't as bad.

I will tell you to at the very least get your permit before you come to Prime or any other company it will save a lot of time and hassle when you get here.

thing is in the 2 years i was on the road for those i never got pulled off, saw maybe 3 trucks pulled over, and still only about 70% of scale houses were open during daylight hours. I'm mostly midwest but it wasn't nearly as bad as schneider made it out to be. since i was locked to 60 tho i wasn't exactly an obvious target. so this week i might advise goin 2 under the speed limit just to avoid the over-eager cops.
