No but your engine will make like 40 less HP depending on what kind of VTEC and if its economy or a performance variant.

Meant to add that Boosted boiz did this on an MR2 and when they engaged the VTEC solenoid it went from ~120 WHP to ~160.

The reality of vtec is it is for fuel economy and actually steals bottom end power from the engine, it doesnt give it more top end.

it just seems like that because when you hit " VTAK" the engine goes back to using 4 valves/cylinder.

You're thinking of the i-VTEC bullshit, not the old VTEC which was used to give more top-end power and give the curve a more linear path (if memory serves me right)
