Do you think some magic transformation happens after X miles? Mileage is mostly meaningless for a 25 year old car, maintenance history/records make the difference. Here's one with 36k though-

>never been in an accident

hmmmm
>>
whatever you do, don't get an 850, only get the 840
>>
>>17245150
>get 850
>ls swap
>piss off stockfags and gain reliability in the process
>>
>>17245136
metal and plastic fatigue

the fewer the miles the less vibrations and impacts on the joints of car parts. the tighter everything will be.
>>
>>17245150
>being a pussy ass bitch
>>
>>17245155
no ac no cruise control no stock gauge cluster its now a manual

this kills the gt car
>>
>>17245156
Nonsense, brand new cars can have NVH issues and cars with 200k miles can be rock solid. It all depends how it was cared for.
>>
>>17245157
the 850 is one of the worst v12s ever built
>horribly unreliable
>parts are hella expensive and rare
>it makes pretty shitty power for a v12 has no aftermarket or power potential
>it doesn't even sound good
>>
>>17245170
Thats odd. I am pretty sure you can make all those things work. Aside from the auto, whats the point
>>
>>17245170
The 850CSi came also in 6 speed manual

>>17245191
I really beg to differ on the unreliability part. The engine itself is nigh bomb proof, the electronics around it can be extremely finicky though.
>>
>>17245170
That toms turbo garage guy on youtube ls swapped his miata and has cruise control, ac, factory gauges
>>
>>17245191
>>it makes pretty shitty power for a v12 has no aftermarket or power potential
I'm pretty sure guys have gotten to 185 mph no sweat with them. What are you talking about?
>>
>>17245191
This

I'm a huge V12 fan but I would go with the V8 in this case. The M70 sounds like an inline-6
>>
>>17245208
If it isn't making 1000hp from the block with just different cams, it's shit. T. American.

If you have to ruin an 8 series with an LS, at least ruin some fucked 840, leave the 850's alone as those things start to become quite collectible and will fetch a really decent price really soon if they are untampered with, especially from BMW autists like me.

>knows nothing about 850s
>pretends he knows everything about them

Just kill yourself my man. Like, right now.
>>
>>17245208
In the 850CSI with 370hp probably, the normal V12's make 296hp. Meanwhile the M102 from 1981 made 252hp, granted with a turbo but it was lacking 6 cylinders.

>>17245209
Well, it is kind of two M20's stuck together.
>>
>>17245222
Seconding this, 850's are hard to come by anyways so its not likely youll be able to pick one up.

Besides all the 840i's that came over here were automatic so, you're doing us a favor.
>>
>>17245268
6 850is or cis on my craigs, 4 840cis. They pop up quite a bit and you can still get a beat one for next to nothing.
>>
>>17245276

Because it will cost an arm and a leg to fix them.

They will be super collectible in a few decades, but right now everyone wants the old M3s and M5s.
>>
>>17245276
You live out in cali? becuase there's fuck all on the eastern seaboard.

>mfw there's 4 850ci's for sale here in my city
>mfw they all have less than 70k KILOMETERS (35k miles)
>mfw they're all immaculate cost between 14k-20k

I'm going to sell my boxster and buy one very, very soon.
>>
>>17245324
We'll see. I looked at a few and came really close to buying one but ultimately I think E24s are even more underpriced so I picked one up instead. No matter what happens I don't think an 850i will be a better buy than an 840ci. 850ci is a bit better from a "hope it goes up in value" standpoint and a bit worse than the 840 from an actually driving the car standpoint.

>>17245340
Yeah. You need to expand your horizons if you want low production cars, flying out to look at a car and having it shipped back is ~$2k, much less than the markup you pay on the East Coast for classics/not rusted rarities.
>>
>>17245191
This. It's pigfat, usually autotragic, and makes about as much horsepower as a c4 corvette with far less reliability and 8x the parts cost.

But it's a BMW, so you can say you own a BMW for what it's worth.

the csi only came in manual

>>17245191
the engine itself is bulletproof, it's whats around it and some of the electronics that tend to shit the bed.

Its the kind of car, like most bmw's that no matter what goes wrong it will always limp home safe.

a lot of people in bimmerforums roadtrip them across the country all the time and they don't carry much besides a couple extra hoses and a voltage regulator for the alternator.

Im pretty sure all the common maintenance items are easy to find. and there's also non BMW aftermarket bits that give you much cheaper maintenance and the same performance.

>i think it sounds good with a catbac and x pipe

and im not sure why you would want more performance on a comfy german yacht, that will regardless hit 300kmh stock. (atleast the 850 does)
>>
I've wanted one for a long time

>TFW somebody in my podunk town had an 850CSi with a Manual for sale years ago
>MFW I had no money to make an offer on it, let alone buy it

It had some bodywork issues, but the interior was nice and everything except the electrics worked well. Best bet is a collector from out of state bought it, because it was like of only so many 8-Series ever made in bright red.

The 850 is also a poor mans super car, you get V12 bragging rights

>>17245410
This, the 850's aren't inherently unreliable, they're as reliable as you make them be. Sure once something hits the fan, you're going bankrupt, but it's not like that shit isn't perventable.

that's not realistic, most people put on close to 10k a year at least
>>
>>17245103
There was one in Keller, TX (outside of Fort Worth) on Craigslist literally last week, but it was sold pretty quickly.

It was practically mint. 10k miles, I think.
