Jesus Christ.
I just had the first day at an 'advanced rider course' being taught by a police instructor of 24 years and he was saying you should counter balance the bike (literally keep body perpendicular with the ground) for all street riding, not just at low speed.

He claims that it improves visibility and better ability to emergency break without falling off mid corner.

He claims that hanging off or even just positioning your body towards the radius of the turn is purely a racing technique that isn't useful on the road because your bike is never pushed to the limits of traction there.

What the fuck is this all about.
>>
>>17234670
Stickerfag.

>>17234684
>>17234748
What he said.
Not a CO native tho, which seems to be important here. Military reasons.
And in the short time I been here, I've learned that the drivers are worse than Cali somehow. And with snow it's downright deadly, seriously, for a place that get gets it often it's retarded.
>>
>>17234816
I mean, he's right if you're commuting around.
Those courses are designed for redditors, dude.

If you need one of those courses you probably shouldn't even be on a bike in all honesty.
You would learn more after a weekend in the desert on a dirt bike.
>>
>>17234816
He's completely right as far as notmal traffic is concerned.
Riding on some deserted back road in the middle of nowhere isn't street riding.
>>
>>17234816
All those things are true assuming you ride your bike at the same speed a cautious person drives a Corolla (or even quite a bit faster than that actually), which in theory you should because your bike stops worse if anything.
>>
>>17234832
>>17234835

>have A2 license
>dad wants to get back into riding
>doesn't know shit about current bikes
>asks me to find him one
>should be FI, around 3k € (Germany)
>reliability is big priority
>intends to keep for at least 5, possibly 10 years if possible
Should I look for
a) an A2 legal bike and test ride it myself,
b) an A legal bike and have him test ride it (finding the time is an issue),
c) an A legal bike restricted to A2, test ride myself?
I'm veering towards option c) so he can derestrict it down the line if 48 PS gets too boring. Plus I'll probably upgrade my license later this year or next year. I'm planning on keeping my current A2 baiku indefinitely as a cheap commuter / city bike. There's a chance I'll get dad's bike as a hand-me-down later so it'd be nice if it had around 100 PS then.

Maybe a light adv bike, like the tenerre 600, v-strom 650, F700/800GS

Nah, he dislikes the styling on the GS. He's more an RT guy, followed by naked / standard bikes. I'll ask him about the V-Strom etc but I expect he'll find them disgusting.
>>

The thing is that a heavy bike isn't adviced when getting back, and the other bikes he likes aren't exactly comfy. Although the F800RT might fit the bill, don't know of other lightish tourers.
>>
>>17235053

Only CB is 4k, Versys is an option, Ténéré is not his style.
I found some nice FI Hornets for 3k and there are ER6n's as well (he liked the Z650 at the recent fair).
Again: Should I go for a restricted 100 PS bike, an A2 bike, or an unrestricted 100 PS bike (and let him test it)?

how tall are you?

They have an insanely low seat height which will be really uncomfortable without race rear sets which will quickly bump up your price. Otherwise, cool bike but kms is pretty low for a cb400, plus it seems a bit too cheap. If it looks like its in good condition, id make sure you give the mechanicals a thorough look over.

My first bike was a honda hornet 250. Very similar bike with similar power, but a screaming redline and most importantly a 600cc sized frame. Because of the bigger frame, I could comfortably ride it with my legs in the correct position on the tank and not dwarf the bike.

So I am trying to change the oil on my bike, but I realize that one of my rear pegs is broke off.... and the possibility of standing the bike on with my rear peg mount is kind of pointless now due to the balancing issue. How fucked am I?
>>
>>17235202
why would you need to balance your bike
if you know the quarts needed just flush it and fill it up
if you're changing filter too add the bonus amount later, after having ran the bike for a few seconds
>>
>>17235061
2 months is fuck all

My sv started and runs fine, it sat for 7 with no prep work and a near empty tank.
>>
>>17235207
Balance it so that all of the oil drains evenly. Or so that's what I thought the purpose of the stand was for. I don't wanna mix even a small amount of dirty oil with the clean. But I guess it doesn't matter?
>>
>>17235226
Just grab the bars and lean it to the side, dude.
>>
>>17235202
Not fucked at all, just sit there and hold the bike upright for a few minutes. Its what I always do.
>>
>>17235226
that's why i said "flush"
meaning you waste some oil to get out the gunk

No, my suspension is made for shitty roads and lack of roads.
Bit soft for going fast, but it's not like I can do that.

Always fun riding with people who have hard suspension and seing them struggle with shitty roads and hurting their ass when they hit a bump.
>>
>>17236184
It's soft for what it is, stiff for what it isn't, and the preload and damping settings will only get you so far in either direction.

This is like the hond accord of bikes. A very uncomfortably comfortable ride.

>>
>>17236280
your owners manual probably has the correct sag setting. you're supposed to preload the spring(s) for your weight.
after you set your sag you should also measure to the spring to see how much it's preloaded. if its out of the acceptable range you need either a softer or harder spring for your weight.
otherwise the dampers wont do much with a spring that's too hard or too soft.

as for adjusting dampers, specifically rebound.. shit is a black art.
and imo only truly tune-able by having someone watch the bike as you ride it.

setting sag though is imperative for correct geometry and really easy to do.

Now I want to get rid of it. It is practical, just not amazing in any way shape or form. I've had it on Craigslist for two months with not even a call. Only 2 texts that were major low balls.

How do I get rid of a bike?
>>
Man, nothing like doing 5 hours zipping around a parking lot for the BRC while its raining, at 6°.
>>
>>17237176
cant you trade it in at a stealership for something thats not a gay small parallel twin?
>>
>>17234023
I haven't been in /dbt/ since last summer.
Just get a part time job, mate, you owe it to yourself
>>
>>17237176
Tons of 7s and 9s on my Craigslist. No one wants the 7 and people want to much for the 9. You might have to take a hit on it.
>>
>>17236660
Depending on your bank balance I recommend the z1000. Get a low milage 04 if you have little cash if not get a new one if you can stand the lights, I've had three the corner like a beauty.
>>
>>17237202
Rather have cash than a 3rd bike. Although I do like that new R6 or want to try out the fz-10 r1 motor.

>>17237275
Some dude offered $3800... I rather get hit by a car and collect some insurance money. Payout would be like $6k for bike alone.
>>
>>17237380
Ehh I don't know anon. I picked up my fz8 with full yoshi system, slide peg, pcv, and ecu flashed, air filter blah blah blah for 3k. 8700miles on it. Maybe it was the deal of a life time and I sold my soul to satan unknowingly. What year is yours?
>>
>>17237176

just wait, i know it sucks but just wait a bit. I had to wait a month to get anything close to what i was asking for.
>>
>>17236948

get some dunlop tt93 tires. I got some on mine and its a huge difference if you want some better handling.

any of you know any classic leather jackets where you can fit long back protectors?

Whats the best gopro to get? I think the hero5 sounds like a little much for me (is 4k really necessary?), I just want to record some videos while I ride, and I don't want to break the bank too much.

don't get a gopro then get one of those chink nock-off's that's just as good, and like half the price
>>
Got a question for any rider in CO. I see KK hasn't posted in a min tho.
What's the laws and etiquette for parking. Where I'm from we can park next to the building and whatnot, I mean as to create an obstruction or anything. I just don't like taking up a whole parking space when I don't need to. Also I feel like my bike is safer not in a regular parking spot.
Not super important, but nice to know.

How big a job is a handlebar swap? I'm finding that the 'up and over and back' cruiser-ish bars on my CM250C do not agree with me. If I was to swap to something that was lower and more straight across, how much headache should I expect? The first thing that pops into mind if the length of the clutch and brake cables. Are they likely to need adjustment, or can I just leave them pushed out in front?

I don't really know shit about insurance or DMV things

my 4k faux pro was 60 dollars shipped. if you just wanna make webms its fine. kinda shitty though theres no app support any longer that i can tell and the recording light is on the screen side so you can never tell if recording unless you take it off. but it was great cause i realized i dont care for all the fucking about to show 2 people a 5 sec gif of me doing a wheelie.

You can't get full coverage. Future payouts will be less money. Higher insurance cost supposedly.

I just don't know if I can justify making the leap from cage to bike. I live in the southwest and we not only have plenty of great roads for riding but less than 20 days of wet weather a year (not counting some strange winters).

plus I've never ridden before but I really really really really have the itch and I'd do everything right (buy proper gear, not just spend all my $ on bike)...I guess part of me just really is hesitant about giving up the cargo space, as lame as that sounds
>>
>>17238203
You could call up your local driving schools and see what they charge for a Direct Access course. Or see if there are any good independent instructors around who can give you some kind of estimate.

I did my CBT and rode a 125 for half a year before going to an instructor who put me through lessons and the tests for my full license.

that's fair - i'm checking those out now - but i'm just getting started and buying my first full set of gear. I'm pretty sure one could say the exact same thing about every single item on my list, and an extra 100 on everything adds up quick.

on the other hand, i have 3k earmarked for the bike and I can probably find something 2-3 hundred less than that...

here's the rest of my buy list so far

>helmet - $180 - Icon Airmada
>jacket - $300 - probably textile
>pants - $200 - probably kevlar jeans? idk
>gloves - $100 - Alpinestars SP-8 V2 (maybe an SMX Air-2 or SPX Air Carbon)
>boots - $100
>chain - $150 - Kryptonite New York Legend Chain With Padlock
>lock - $100 - XX-10 Disc Lock with Alarm

i'll be in warm weather mostly (TX/CA) and kind of want to be able to wear the shoes/pants to work. Might look at overpants or strap-on armor instead of straight pants.
>>
>>17238274

I'd suggest another helmet other than Icon. Everything else seems alright, it is your first gear set after all. Textile is more flexible for all year riding in the first place.

>>17238494
CA keeps a multitude of moderately happy but unsuspecting people trapped in thinking that other states are not worth living in. The truth is that there are many states that would give better or cheaper access to a similar lifestyle as CA.
People in other states get buttmad when either
A. Californians repeat the tired and false narrative that it is 'the best' and 'most special' place to live.
or B. Californians realize it isn't that great if you don't make enough money to be in the top tax bracket, and move to other states raising demand and stepping on the toes of everyone who lived there before.

Scorpion definitely has better quality products for less money. Emergency release cheekpads, snell rating. HJC and Icon don't and the HJC only has two shell sizes, which means the CL-17 is generally a pretty bulky fucking helmet. Plus the liner in Scorpion helmets are pretty comfy. Always try them on first though, try and find a cycle gear around and see what fits best.

look at lots of reviews on whatever boot you want because the sizing is all over the map ive found. most reviewers will give you a heads up if they run large or small. i found cortech right on the money with their conversion however with astars i run a size smaller.
