Do you judge people based on what tire brand they use /o?

Whats your top 3 tire brands youd avoid like the plague?
>>

>michelin>goodyear>continental>>>>everyone else
>>

>>
I use Goodyears on my car because thats what the manufacturer recommends and theres fuck all else for quality in that size around.
>>
>>17229141
I've never had Michelin's that weren't shit. Continental is the best.

>>17229193
mid tier. could be higher depending on the actual tire model.
>>
I have Dunlop Direzza Z2's on my Miata is there a better tire I could get?
>>
My 3 avoid brands

>Sumitomo. Jesus Christ the rubber they use is so cheap, it doesn't matter how much tire paste you use the bead will always snap super hard when mounting. If a tire is going to blow up in your face it will probably be a sumitomo, never buy these

>Goodyear. They make *some* okay tires but these consistently have high road force and don't last that long compared to many other brands

>Go form. Chinese rubber, traction is shit and they don't last long. Not much to say here, just never buy Chinese tires

My top 3 brands
>Continental hands down. People shill Michelin a lot, and although they are a very good brand continental has them beat when it comes to the traction and tread wear trade off. Conti pro contacts have an AA traction rating with a 500 tread wear rating. About 50k miles. A set of extreme contacts are a much better choice than meme sports.

>Michelin. Really soft tires. Awesome to mount them, they are built to last and they use very high quality rubber. Definitely a close second. They make l/t versions of the defender, great choice if you have a 3/4 ton+ truck

>Bridgestone. Although a lot of their tires are pretty firm they are still high quality. They make tires for any application, if it's for your shitbox or your semi they have it.

If I haven't ever heard of you tire brand then Yeah I'll judge. but any known brand is fine for most cars provided not dry rot/old as hell. On a sport car if you don't have a good grippy tire I will judge too because wtf man. even more so if it's a bunch of mismatched tires.I will personally never cheap out and buy shit tier tires again. I had a blow out on the highway once. Namebrand with road hazard warranty is top tier.

I do have some favorites though.
bridgestone potenzas are good albeit pricey. falken and kumhoes are okay esp for the price on most of their products. Then theres slicks like hoosier or mickey thompson you only see at track/events I like the look but 0 experience with them.

Some tires I do think are stupid over rated such as MPSS. Yeah it's a good tire and all, but you can get grippy ones for cheaper to daily on.

>>17229252
I sorta know that feel. got some grippy 14" for my e30. might be stupid but it's so much cheaper compared to my daily's size and similar tire
>>17229272
good grippy tires, but never heard anything positive/negative about their generic shit
>>
>>17229272
trash
>>
this thread is pointless, the answer changes based on what type of tire and the size you need.

just avoid the no-name chinese brands. tire rack's reviews are pretty good to compare like against like.

pilot super sport (or ps4s) can't be beat for street driving but you can save a lot of money and get something that's >95% as good (and use that money to put towards track tires if you really need the performance)

I had Michelin Pilot Exaltos on a Mazda3, they were decent tires in dry weather. Very grippy.

I currently have Michelin LTX M/S2's on my FJ Cruiser (it came with them) and they fucking SUCK.

Getting rid of them in a few weeks for some BFG KO2 A/T meme tires.

It was those or Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.

I would get some Nitto Grapplers if I could find a place that actually sells them in Canada.

Brands are almost completely irrelevant, with the possible exception of cheap tires from China or similar countries.

Brand A might make a decent summer tire that is exceptionally great on wet roads, but their sub-$80-price-point all-season tire may not be as good as competitors' offerings.

Those look like a reasonable cheap tire. Making tires isn't rocket science, and as long as you're not stressing the tire with heat, a failure is very unlikely. I'd say go for it for less than 200$ a set. My tires are twice that per, so good on you.
>>
I only use cheap tyres because touge and caster toe in and camber scrub them every 5 months on the rear and the fronts are not far behind.

My current tires for my car are Semperit Master Grip 2 in the same exact size. They are really good actually. They have lasted me the last 3 winters with no problem and they have a lot of life in them. I think the neighbour has either Continentals or Bridgestones on his 530xd and they fare worse. It could be that my car has more mechanical grip and there are no nannies on mine to stop me from correcting, but I will never know.

I ran Toyo Proxes R1R on my turbo miat. They grip like crazy, until they suddenly let go. You have to push really hard for that to happen though. There's no telling when it'll happen, they are completely silent under all circumstances; they won't squeel or chirp or anything.
Again the grip is phenomenal, wet or dry, but they only last maybe 15k miles under normal driving. And probably 100 miles on the track.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 here. 245/45/R18.

Ohtsu FP7000s are pretty legit, i've been driving on them for a couple of months and they are doing fine desu.

Ohysu is the parent company of falken anyway.
>>
>>17229391
Guy you replied to here. Falken makes good poorfag tires. Surprisingly pretty good traction for cheap tires, the only catch is that the tread doesn't last that long, seems to be the story on almost all of their tires. But that's how they keep the prices competitive. Ohtsu is owned by falken so if you need a cheap tire I'd look there also, a lot of people overlook them because of how cheap they are, hence why we never really had much in stock. Much better choice compared to some shitty hankooks or Kenda's.

Indy 500 is the ultimate tire for semi-poorfags.

>best in class UHP grip in both wet and dry, dethroning the BFG Sport Comp-2
>good treadwear rating
>fairly cheap
>not noisy
>look awesome

You pay 50% of a Pilot Super Sport for 95% the performance. Only bad part is the lack of feedback when you push them too hard. Note that the "Indy 500 Wide Oval" has nothing in common with this and is utter shit.

Consumer Reports April 2017 is their annual car issue. They have nice reviews of top tires from the top 3 major tire brands: Continental, Michelin, Pirelli. These 3 companies own various other major tire companies whose brands have also been mentioned in this thread.

What's particularly good about the consumer reports tire reviews is that noise is also one of the items rated for the tire. Because consumer reports standardizes the car, the rims, and the roadway the tires are tested upon, the comparisons between tires is more consistent than comments on forums where people use tires with different rims, different sizes, different weather, different roadway surfaces, and different cars.

Your public library should have Consumer Reports april 2017.

I agree with this. Bought super sports and big upgrade over what I had but they hardly last with how much I drive. Using ExtremeContact DWS06 and they are just as good. PSS don't hardly make a sound when they lose grip either. Good and bad I suppose

Isn't it possible that if the tires are too good, they can damage your car? For example, if tires had 100% grip, turning sharply while making a right turn at an intersection could damage the wheel bearings. Similarly, Michelin Pilot Super Sports have such tight grip that repeated use might put a lot of sideways pressure on the bearings and suspension whereas tires that gripped less would significantly reduce the peak strain on the car.
>>
>>17231387
That's funny because I also have 914s on the front but 912s on the rear, will probably get 912s on the front once these wear out as the 914 is an eco tyre while the 912 is a performance tyre which I didn't know at the time. Yeah my local place tried to sell me the Toyos but I didn't think theyd be any better for the extra price.
>>17231996
Thanks mate, yeah I bought them because they're a reputable brand I could afford and I didn't like the similarly priced Toyos or Chinese Bridgestones, will go to Continental once I'm earning good money tho but I'm glad you think they're a good cheaper alternative.
>>
>>17229117

continental are pure shit, might as well drive on lego tires
>>
>>17237860
I think the Duratracs are just as over-hyped/memed as the KO2. 1 out of 4 sets wear perfectly, perform well in everything and last 60k. the rest howl like shit and wear like shit, get stuck in a wet driveway and last 10k. Toyo or bust.

I have been wearing ExtremeContact DWs for about a year now and I love them. They corner 90% if not 95% as good as the pirellis and still make no noise and yet are wearing much more uniformly and slowly.

and they were only 150/corner, which was like "holy shit fuck yes" for 19" wheels.

They are what one would consider the best when it comes to ice and snow. In tests they are always found at the top, competing with Continental, Michelin and the other top-tier brands. Some years you'll have them place second on one category, other years first - but they are consistently the ones that perform the best, especially when they start getting worn down

You can get both studded tires and unstudded. The current best unstudded they have is the Hakkapelitta R2, although I have a feeling that they are gonna release the R3 next winter as the R2 and its design is getting a bit old & the competition is catching up

As for studded; Hakkapelitita 7, 8 or 9. The 7 is stating to get old, 8 is damned good and is the start of their new series where they focused on having more studs but making them lighter, and the 9 is their newest tire. Haven't seen any tests of it yet, but I expect they'll come next winter

Never run a tire that is meant to be studded withotu studs, as its designed to perform best with the studs. As for studding a studless... no point when there are so many studded options to go with. The only tires where this is wise are all-terrain/mud-terrains that one plans to use in the winter

>pic related; my Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV's
