Did the RX8 suck that much?
shitty meme engine no one wants to deal with
Swap out the rotary for a V8 or a K20

>Did the RX8 suck that much?
yep
>>17219174
>engine needs rebuilding every 50-80k miles
>you need to premix oil
>it has terrible gas milage
>it has no usable torque range (all the torque is high up)

damn that sucks

how hard is an LS swap?

holy fugggg :DDDDD
>>17219174
low gas mileage, needs an extra 100hp and 150ftlb, burns oil (by design), engines don't last if you don't know how to take care of them.
The Pros:
Excellent Handling
Excellent Interior
The Cons:
Sub par fuel economy
Low power/Slow straight-line speed
This would all be fine if the RX-8 had a traditional engine (a la FR-S), but the car has a Rotary engine. Many people don't understand the nuances of the spinning nacho, and are under the opinion (whether right or wrong) that the engine won't last as long as a traditional engine, and requires more maintenance. As result there is very little demand for the RX-8.
And finally they aren't Rx-7's

>how hard is an LS swap?
Not hard if you have the money it'll cost at least $10k to do it properly.
>>17219206
>how hard is an LS swap?
why do people ask this question?
Are you underage?
No swap is hard if you have enough money.
>>17219217
it doesn't really cost any more to do it properly than it does to do it improperly.
but anyone asking if they can ls swap something or "how hard is it" cant do it in the first place, is the real answer.

damn, that sounds nice
>>17219182
The renesis isn't a meme, it's just shit.
Rotaries aren't shit, but they are memes.
>>17219186
>>17219206
swap in a 13b or a 20b if you must swap. Putting a piston engine in a rotary car is heresy.
>>17219174
>Can somebody tell me why these are so ridiculously cheap everywhere?
Because they have a quirky engine that will die if the owners are unable to follow a few simple rules.
They're basically a steal if you find one that has been cared for and are mentally competent enough to continue caring for it.
Avoid the 2004/2005 models in particular.
It's actually a really good opportunity. The car is a perfect base but ruined by its shit engine, just throw it away and replace with anything else and you have a great car.
Why the fuck did there need to be a thread about RX8s every other day
>>17219221
There are different levels of engine swap. For example, swapping a H22 into your 3k Civic is significantly easier than making a V8 Mini Cooper.
>>17219174
Haha he posted it again lol
>>17219213
>This would all be fine if the RX-8 had a traditional engine (a la FR-S)
>shit tier boxer engine
>is actually slower than an rx8
>>17219174
They aren't undervalued. The styling has aged poorly, they are slow, they have corvette fuel economy and sub S2000 performance, they are prone to problems, many non jap specialty shops don't want to deal with them, they consume oil, the renesis is a poor modding platform.
They're pretty much only any good if you want MUH WANKEL and do autocross. Shit in all other aspects.
If you want a fast RX8 you swap in a 13B or some piston engine.
>>17219494
Because theres a community for it.
>>17219476
Because it's the closest thing to an affordable RX-7.

Engine lasts 200k+ with nothing but oil changes and basic routine maintenance
You don't need to premix
Good economy is for poorfags
Rotaries have broad torque, and it's not a diesel truck engine so who cares anyway
>>17221575
Engine does not on average last 200k+ miles with basic maintenance. If it did, you wouldn't see examples on craigslist for sale regularly with 50-80k and blown engines.
They aren't reliable for 99.98% of the population. That .02 is rotaryfags that might give enough of a shit about them to give them the maintenance needed to last.
It would be more valuable if it had a 2.4L 4cyl
Prove me wrong
>>17221593
Waah waah retards don't know how to change oil every 3k miles or avoid limiter bashing a cold engine, so the actual lifespan of one owned by a person who isn't a mouth breathing retard doesn't count!
>>17221597
It would also be more valuable if it didn't look like a large miata
