Thinking about getting this as my first car for around $4000. Thoughts? Anything I should know?

You can get a nice ls400 for 4k. Much better car.

I was thinking this but won't an 8 cylinder increase my insurance (I'm a young, white, male) and increase gas consumption?

This.

Well if you're worried about that then get a civic for 3k.

Mileage on my LS is about 17/22 city/highway. Probably would be better if I had a lighter foot.
IDK about insurance. I doubt the number of cylinders matters - you're not buying a sports car if you're getting an LS.

In what ways is it better?

Can't go wrong with a Lexus, I'd say go for it.

better looking
smoother
flagship, so best build quality
I have an '00 that's clean af and get compliments on it from people driving cars 15x more valuable. Had a person try to buy it from me once.
The ES doesn't look particularly special.
IDK, you have to drive it...do you think it looks better?
I've owned and worked on the Es300 for about 3 months I recommend the car it's fun to drive decent on gas and looks clean. Don't listen to these autists and their shitbox fetishes.

Why would you want a Toyota camry for your first car
It's basically a tarted up Camry, which is not the worst thing in the world for a first car, but it's also one of the most boring cars ever put on the road.

Have you done anything to your car to make it look nicer?

Nope. I like it as is. Just added an aux input to the stereo.
