found this on the floor of my miata today, (i havent driven it since a couple of days ago)
and now it won't start. is it the reason why it wont start? where do I plug this back in?
its labeled "12v batt / memory"
That's for a radio.

>12v batt / memory
It definitely is the reason it won't start. It probably came from under the dash somewhere? I don't know shit about miatas so good luck
>>17214857
really? the car doesnt have a radio at all
>>17214860
yeah it came from under the dash

even if you don't have a radio, the wiring for it is still there, so if it's had the stock radio replaced by another one that has then been ripped out the wiring might be a mess
i'd find a local and friendly auto electrician to ask, electrical problems can be very fiddly
check ur earth too

That's not an original wiring on a miata. You have some stupid nigger problem where possibly PO has messed with the electrical system and nigger rigged something. The markings on the wire mean jack shit.
t. was previously an automotive electrician
I know exactly what that is.
It is a jumpwire to disable the press-clutch-to-start switch.
I know because I made one for my own miata when diagnosing a nostart condition. Send paypal to [email protected]

Let me rephrase that,
with that jumper the switch is always "On". if the jumper fell out and the switch is not plugged into its original wire, it wont start.
What floor did you find it on? Drivers footwell, passengers footwell?

This.
Or it jumpered a start inhibit relay which you no longer have (old alarm system, etc).
Just because it says "12v batt / memory" on it just means that the person who installed it rescued that piece of wire from the spare parts box.
DON'T BELIEVE THESE GUYS I USED TO MAKE THESE WIRES
It goes into your seat belt warning light circuit.
