I used to think that was cool but then I got out of high school and realized it's a boomer-tier accessory that just stands out way too much. OEM is master race - also that's not even the good aftermarket one. Should've gotten the other style that sits flush. That's 100x better than what you have.

ND has a nicer-feeling but slightly less robust transmission. It doesn't suffer from tarbo lag but has a much narrower powerband. Other than that it comes down to looks. Could argue suspension setups but that's only if you're going to keep the stock shocks for some weird reason.

>>
>>17222829
the ND transmission problem is only an issue with the 2016 models, and is covered under the drivetrain warrantee if it breaks. likely a line in the cast for one of the gears or something caused manufacturing errors.
>>
>>17222841
Can the newer ones handle more torque? From what I understand, the 124 uses the NC transmission because the ND transmission wasn't very good at handling the extra torque, although for all I know it could be because Mazda had a shitload of those transmissions left over and was pissed at FCA.
>>
>>17222914
considering the ND manual kept breaking the same gear in the same way, I'd say they can. the NC transmission also has longer gears and is heavier. Mazda likely didn't want to share their newest drivetrain more than anything else.
>>
>>17214642
Okay. I'm fairly timid about buying an already turbo'd NA but the price seems logical and the miles are low. Any insight?

gday cunts,

my NB started acting up when i took it to a track, i hit redline for the first time and suddenly the tach goes crazy along with the power and it cuts out, i took it to a mechanic who said the same thing happened but i need to take it to a specialist. on the way home i stayed under 2500rpm trying to get home and it died 3 times along with the tach and power going crazy,

anyone know what this could be? been told its not coils and both the mechanic and the pro driver told me it could be a fucked crank angle/ cam angle sensor

if anyone has any ideas that would be fucking tops because im about to take it into a place who hopefully can chuck it on the dyno and see whats wrong

Changing out a wiring harness is a pretty time consuming job. You have to strip most of the parts off the car for access. But it can be done. It would be easier to sell and buy a better condition one. But it is not past worth saving if you have the knowhow and time.
>>
>>17223208
Yes, I have seen oit a few times. When it happened to mine t was because the bolt the holds the lever mechanism that moves the outside handle came out, so it had no pivot point. Easy fix, put the bolt back in.

It could also be the latch or small metal arms themselves. either broken or popped out. Youll probably have to take off the door panel and start looking/messing around inside the door.

the 1.8 mzr with a supercharger felt very strange when i drove one, felt peaky like a turbo, could have been a shit tune idk

the 2.0 is stout as fuck and can handle 350 crank hp easy and the later gen 2.0s were even more built and are regularly tuned to rev to 7900 rpm with stock head/valves/springs

i would advise against going FI on a NC1 as the engines are fucking timebombs

Cheers for the input mate. I know people tend to prefer superchargers on mx5s traditionally but thought it would be worth asking.
Mines a facelift 2.0l it's one of those sport black special editions (mk3.5?) so would that be considered the later model? Not that I'm planning on going nuts with performance/tuning.

they hold up the best to FI
ive driven a 2.0 with a cosworth supercharger and another with the rotrex and they were fucking awesome but both kits went through several iterations because almost every customer had some problems

from what ive read cosworth has officially abandoned their NC blower because of all the inherent flaws/issues and has sold off all the stock

flyin miata had the cosworth milled off the blower while bbr still seems to display the badge so idk

was initially plagued by engine failures and poor drivability due to problems with the tune/maps in the reflash that was part of the kit. The problems including the tuner shit storm surrounding it are very well documented on forum.miata.net.

>The cost of replacing and refunding engines that had been knocking them self to a certain death might be the reason Cosworth pulled out and sold the rest of the kits/design without the Cosworth brand.

Did he just slap a turbo on, or is it a full build? At that price I'm guessing the former. He's probably pinged the shit out of the motor and now he needs to sell it before it self destructs
>>
>>17224307
I have no idea. Cam angle sesnor is an easy diy job. Not sure how much they cost.

It runs well when it's not acting up?
>>
>>17224905
Sure the price is right from a sellers perspective. And they seem to be in it to build genuinely good kits. So in all fairness i shouldn't complain.
It's just that the kit would be twice the price of a decent miata. Somebody who buys a miata because it's an affordable little sports-y-car is not going to just
>accidentally 7K
on that car.
More to the point: I cannot justify spending that amount on my miata. Even though it looks, and sounds!, very good.

A friend of mine who was about 6'2" ~260lb had one for a little while. It was definitely a tight fit, but he never did a foamectomy or anything like that. Most people say that's something you need to do, but he got away without it. Maybe you can make your own seat brackets and bolt the seat directly to the floor?
>>
>>17225283
>Maybe you can make your own seat brackets and bolt the seat directly to the floor?
I would probably just buy a seat and brackets from momo honestly, I'm just wondering if it will work at all.

What is the average height of people here, and how comfortable do you think the car is?

I've sat in a stock NA, and it was tight, but not unfixably tight, at least in my eyes. I was just wondering if there was anyone else who was tall and owned one who could give advice/first hand experience.
>>
>>17225319
I'm only 5'9" ~130lb and I fit perfect in it.
>>
>>17225201
1. Foamectomy.
2. Sit in the four generations to see what fits best from the get-go.
3. As another poster said, lower fixed seat brackets might help.
4. It really depends on your proportions. I'm mild manlet status at 5'9" with a long torso and short arms and legs. The only things that really fit me are sportscars with adjustable wheels and pedals, sportbikes, and my 01 Ram 1500. I love my NB and NC, but they are just slightly uncomfy due to odd genes.

>>
>>17225417
Literally a non issue. It probably didn't have the lsd to begin with, and if it doesnt work than it's just like an open diff which is fine on a miata. Only reason to have an lsd on a car with 100whp is to do donuts.

So it's hot as fuck out today and I am having a difficult time trusting my Miata in this heat. There hasn't been any indication of it overheating (going by the thermostat) but in the past the thermostat has been a little funky jumping all over the place.

>Voted best general sportscar of all time
>Great platform to start as an enthusiast
>NAs have that classic car feel without the classic car issues
>NB+s are really sporty, fun cars
>Endless modification and potential
>Watch as jealous cucks like >>17227101 have fits because their girlfriend is miring you in your glory
>Get mired by gays too, whatever.
>Get mired in general

I haven't taken many pics of mine yet, but I paid 1500 and mine was a one owner car with 103k on the clock and a very rare find for these vans since most of them are pushing 200k now
my buddy paid 900 for his with 265k on the clock but his had a rebuild at 160k and still runs like a champ

friends i really need help
im installing my new block and the trans is lined up to the clutch but it goes CHUNK and wont go the last half inch
i really dont know what to do rn
>>
>>17228096
Try to rotate the transmission shaft a little by slotting it into a gear and back out. Sounds to me like the splines arent lined up and you need to wiggle it a bit.
>>
>>17228174
so just shifting it in and out of gear can rotate the shaft?
>>
is it possible to put a hardtop on a softtop miata? Should I just buy a miata with a hardtop or buy a softtop miata and a hardtop separately?

should I buy 'Marilyn' from this Bernie supporter? Bumper stickers, rust and 'beauty marks' included
>>
>>17228697
don't buy from crazy people bro
>>
>>17228658
yes, you need frankenstein bolts, which are the bone-shaped lugs that go on the chrome plates ahead of the trunk, as well as striker plates, which are the metal hooks that the hard top latches grasp, similar to the ones that close the soft top in the front, however, these go in the "B-pillar" area behind the seats.

If the car's never had a hardtop, you will have to cut some interior trim and drill some holes to install the plates.

the engine also looks like it is leaking from everything that can possibly leak
>>
perfect timing.
ive 95% convinced my self to buy a miata, problem is i live in Minnesota, and theyre 1-2k cheaper in texas or down south. anyway, im looking at NB or early cheap NC's, any thing i should know? preferably under 5k

Wait a bit and buy from the boomers in St. Aug. That's how I got my baby.
>>
>>17228851
unfortunately I need a car before August
>>
why should I get the NB? it looks more girly than the NA but everyone says NB is better
>>
>>17228966
NB is slightly stiffer, safer, faster.

NA is 'better' though. You can upgrade an NA to be just as good as any NB.
>>
>>17228863
it's only may and as with any older sports car you need to expand your search area beyond your immediate vicinity
>>
>>17224882
Seems like a good candidate for a rolling Miata with no engine. Been seeing people selling rolling Miatas for $500 and even for free.
>>
Just bought a miata as my first manual yesterday. About to go out and drive it around now that it's 1:30 AM and there's nobody on the roads. Wish me luck lads
>>
>>17229145
Ayy I did the same when I first got mine. Take it easy and enjoy!

yeah runs perfect when but then suddenly the revs go crazy, the car feels like youre taking you foot off the acclerator and then back on to where you have it without moving your foot at all,

it will do that or it will run fine and then just cut out, it the revs were wobbly under accleration also (going up but up and down while it was doing it)

idk man, at least i get to take it onto the dyno and shit, that will be a cool experience along with an expensive one
>>
i need a new steering wheel
nardi wheels look nice but sadly they are way too expensive for me
any recommendations?
>>
>>17230697
I replaced mine with the Nardi from a NB, the one without the Mazda branding. Huge step up in quality and I got it on the cheap.
