Work done to the engine: "a lot"

On thready note. Having a bit of a dilemma. I current own a '10 abarth punto evo. I've been thinking about selling it and using the money to buy a MX-5 eunos and paying off some debt/putting into savings.

The abarth has given me some real shit this year. Needing parts imported from Italy for an engine rebuild. To top it off the turbo is a big fucked. I do 60miles a day driving, is a eunos a good daily?

Any other car recommendations for a daily? Looking for a reliable Jap car.

Hello gents

Looking for my first car (UK), I just got my license, but I'd like to take whatever I buy to a track. Is there anything that is cheap to insure.

I don't mind "voiding" my insurance by modifying my car, because I will. I just want a base model that is cheap to insure so my premiums are low. For reference, I'm being quoted 9k for an '89 CRX, 8k for a 2007 MX5 so whatever I buy really has to be quite shit, at least in its base form.

Lowest I've found is 3k+2.4k for a classic mini for the car and insurance respectively.

RWD would be preferable but I understand something like that would be much harder to insure.
>>
>>17227292
Buy a K11 and race it at Shakespeare County Raceway with us at a meet. Lots of go faster bits, none of which will make you go too fast and be dangerous
>>
>>17227292

I've solved it!

1. Buy an estate for like £500
2. Insure it for pennies with the black box shittery
3. Get a towing dolly for like £200
4. Buy an MX5
5. Tow it to tracks

Oh, and also there's no point in making a fast estate if you have a black box that keeps you under 3k revs and under 30MPH.

If I opt for a non-black box insurance it goes up by at least 1 grand which is the cost of the MX5 alone.

I'm kind of backed into a corner here.

My problem was wanting to buy a first car that I could take to the track. But even a 70HP modern car is costing me 3k+ without a black box. Base hatchbacks like the golf? Being quoted 6k from websites. I'm sure I could haggle that down, but not down to the 2k that I can afford.

Shitty insurance companies have backed me into a corner, I haven't done anything.

I have no need to impress you, if I wanted to impress I probably wouldn't be posting about a mid range saloon from 40 years ago. I think you're projecting a little.

Your actions contradict your words.

why do you have to be an arse? we only wanted to know how much the work costed and now you're having an autistic episode

Why are you insistant on find the cost? He doesn't have to tell you.

He could have said "I don't want to say" instead of "it cost enough" and then when prompted to elaborate be even more cryptic.
>>
>>17230726
because it's interesting to know how much that sort of work costs, I don't care if it was cheap or not but it's a nice reference if you have a car of a similar vintage and want a build like that done

Who cares, it's only a Triumph Dolo-shite

If you have a similar car, phone CTM and explain that you want a build similar to mine, explain your budget and Charlie will tell you how much he can accommodate you. He's a really great guy and did me a fantastic deal while keeping pretty close to the amount I specified.
>>17230748
Also this, they're really really slow. Really slow. And totally unremarkable. I'll be lucky to have 90hp now, why do you care how much it cost to get there lel.

British Leyland
>>
>>17231060
It's a pre cross flow head, so the exhaust and inlet ports are on the same side. This really limits you in terms of accurate fuelling through the carbs. It's also pushrod and a stroker, 2 things that really limit you in terms of revs. The exhaust is too small currently, need a full system of about 2". Finally, it's only 1500cc. Thanks for the technical question.
>>
>>17231083
ah, didnt realise they were pre crossflow heads. any idea if theres other engines you could get a crossflow head from, might be able to get better flow from a head for a larger engine. im guessing you are trying to keep the original engine?

Hey Brit-bongs
I'm a 32 year old guy who'se just passed his test.
Need to buy a second hand banger - was looking at a Honda CRX. Really want something kinda head-turning like Ford Capri (retro) or Pontiac Firebird though.
Ant suggestions on decent British cars to look for?
>>
>>17236802
Depends on how much money you have to spend.
>>
>>17236802
>32 year old guy who'se just passed his test
What were you doing the past 15 years?
>>
>>17236822

riding the bus probably
>>
32 year old guy here, yea probs max £3000 - now looking at a Ford Probe. Just want a head-turner really!
Yea last ten years been catching trains everywhere - brutally assaulted by six chavs when I was 21 so spent a long time dealing with the confidence fallout from that. Only just passed my test, but better late than never!
>>
>>17236936
I appreciate that you want something nice but don't throw bog standard shitboxes to the curb just yet, it might be a decent starting platform for you.
Did Ford Probes ever sell in the UK in RHD?
>>
>>17236936

You could get a Mini R53 at that price (what I have) or a BMW e39. Neither is British though if that's what you want, and won't turn heads in the way you were hoping for.
>>
>>17237026
why turn heads when you could turn bends

Yes. Garth Cheeseman had one.

Get an Alfa Romeo GTV, any reliability problems will be at least partially offset by the fact that they are slowly appreciating

What cars that aren't boring shitty hatchbacks can I buy and insure for less than 2 grand with me being 21?

I had a nice car but crashed it, I have no NCB and now every quote I'm getting is like 2.5k for anything even like a fucking 500 quid Volvo.
>>
>>17237503
The jews got their claws in you
>>
>>17237503
Get a shitty hatch and drive like an old woman for a few years and wait til you're over 30 to get something nice like everyone else has to. It's just the way it works.
You can add dad as a named driver and say you'll park on driveway etc to knock a few quid off but it won't help much.
>>
>>17237503
>>17237608
Nevermind just realised I can get insured on a 528 for like 1500, sorted boys.

>>
>>17237608
>park on driveway
Not anymore. It's generally more expensive since it's easier for thieves to immediately identify where the keys will be and be opportunistic. "secure car park" is cheapest.
