It's the platform code. The neon was PL, "platform low" and PT was "platform tall." As far as I can tell, PT platform was born and died with the Cruiser, because googling it returns only PT Cruiser related results. Platform Tall was also based on PL so it wasn't even its own thing, really.

Stepdad then yelled "NO" at me and continued "Motor Trend says it stands for Personal Transport."
