Why does this scene even exist?
>>
Because nobody took geometry
>>
>>17166386
It's easy to get into, it serves as a hugbox where nobody's going to call your Civic on crooked wheels a slow shitheap, and there's participation trophies for everyone.
>>
I think it's more sad that they hold competitions for this shit that involves getting out of a driveway without scraping or something.
>>
>>17166475
Ever see car limbo?

It's fun to have a low & slow shitbox, just do it right for what its worth. Engine spacers aren't hard to come by so ya don't splack your pan.

The jews, man. They have come up with another way to make money. The tires wear out quicker than before. Kids are spending more money on tires. Its all a market conspiracy, getting the kiddies to drive slow and waste money on rimz and stiff suspension so it feels like their getting fucked in the ass.

Now, I just know that you're from America. No one could be that stupid and not be American

Car in foreground has evident fluid leak. People in background appear to be inspecting a pebble in the road.

Amirite?
>>
Is this considered stance?
I hate excessive camber, especially when it's on some shitty vw golf, but I really like the aesthetic for drift cars.

So is stance to this degree acceptable if you skate your car?
I like it so I don't really car what others think, but just wanted to hear opinions.
>>
>>17167701
It looks like fucking shit.
>>
>>17167694
Maybe if you were American you would know that American blue collar workers aren't piss poor like in Europe.
>>
>>17167701

lots of camber on drift cars is functional.

Stance isn't drift though, and is not functional
>>
>>17167750
>lots of camber on drift cars is functional.

If you don't have the power to break the wheels free, it can help.

But if you want low times around the track, eventually you will have to straighten the car out and accelerate. Lots of camber messes that up.
>>
>>17167797

>But if you want low times around the track, eventually you will have to straighten the car out and accelerate. Lots of camber messes that up.

agreed, though drift cars couldn't care less about track times.

lots of camber at the front helps with contact patch when countersteering due to caster
>>
>>17167824
>drift cars couldn't care less about track times
They do care about corner entry speed, though, and being faster can help you separate from your opponent, meaning better scores.
>>
>>17167677
>his hobby is impressing vape kiddies

Those fucking bag systems cost more than replacing all for corners on an Airmatic Merc
>>
>>17167869

camber isn't going to affect entry speed so significantly that they lose a competition, and they're exiting corners in a drift anyway.

plus only professionals get judged based on entry speed, your average drifter isn't scored, they just like skidding.
>>
>>17167701
Nothing more than 2 degrees is acceptable on street cars, and that too only for Porsches and stuff
>>
>>17167734
>I'm not poor guise, look at all the things I can waste my money on!
This is how poor people stay poor
>>
>>17167797
Drift isn't about track times, it's about being scored by judges like a skating contest for faggots
>>
>>17167890
Not everyone has a /biz/ mentality. Maybe he is fine with "wasting" the 500$ a month left after he pays for everything rather than investing it in penny stocks or dogecoin.
>>
>>17167694
>spending thousands of dollars on something that looks stupid and has no resale value

kek, why don't you talk out of your ass some more? the kit i pieced together handles like a set of top-of-the-line coilovers and costed half as much, if i can also air out and lay frame just to piss ignorant people like you off that's just an added bonus.

>>17167884
>his hobby is impressing vape kiddies
it's actually owning, restoring, and modifying old cars but if some youngsters like what I make then it's a win for me. how often do you get strangers coming up to you and complimenting you on your car anon?

>>17167890
if spending money on a hobby you find interesting is wasting it you must be boring as fuck. you're like those old asian ladies that cuss out their children for leaving a light on for 5 seconds. keep pinchin those pennies senpai, im sure you'll get to keep them when you die :^)

You mean ruining them
>>
>>17167933
and have you ever driven a car with a proper bag set up? it really comes down to the type of strut you use. i went with bilstein shocks and it handles like tits. you should try it sometime, you might like it, or not, but you'll also be coming from a place of experience, not making up arguments like 99% of the people in this thread, so i might actually believe what you say then, lmao

>>17167935
>waaah bags ruin a car instantly
this is actually the first one i've bagged but to each their own. before i bought this car it was collecting dings and dents in an apartment complex parking lot and was destined to rot away in the rain. now it's actually driven and maintained. you can cry about the suspension all you want, it's no skin off my dick homie.

And most drift cars have altered steering geometry that allows the wheels to turn to almost 90* making camber irrelevant.

I don't get it. When I mod my car, I do it to make it better. Even the few purely aesthetic mods I've done didn't affect the functionality or performance in any negative way.

Spending a bunch of money to deliberately make a car objectively and measurably worse in return for questionable aesthetics requires a mindset that is entirely foreign to me.

Nice it looks clean, and the diesels models are rare as fuck here in burgerville.

I love the set up I have, I've got custom front control arms to take care of the clearance issues with the bags. I'd definitely recommend CAtuned if you're not going with an air set up.

And yeah, I had to replace the strut mounts when mine was still on the factory suspension before the kit went on and I'm pretty sure they need to be replaced again. Damn things are made out of glass, at least it's only ~$20 for a pair.
>>
>>17167893
>it's about being scored by judges

So what the judges are scoring is the ability to butcher a car to the point that it can't help but lose traction. There's no talent involved.

Try drifting a car that is set up to get decent track times, acceleration, etc. That takes skill.

I like stance, I like wheel fitment, I like how the car looks cooler the lower it is. Being static is way cooler than being on air. Fitment is easy when your on air. But fitment while static takes effort. Scraping everywhere and throwing sparks makes everyone snap neck so damn hard it's fun. I don't care about going fast because my state has a huge racing scene and to me it seems like all anyone cared about is how fast they can go. I've met some awesome friends because of being a stancekid. But there is a point with excessive camber and all but -11 isn't too much. Stretched tires are a hazard but if you check your tire pressure at all you can prevent de beading. I remember when I wasn't a stance kid and I wanted to go fast, but all anyone cares about is how much hp and I wanted to be different

I honestly didn't know that stance fags actually gave up good handling and performance to appeal to a visual style. Up until I started reading here and getting into automotive more I thought those lowered and cambered wheel setups actually made the car handle better or helped performance in some way. To learn it is entirely cosmetic and actually worsens how the car drives-- that is insane to me.

I actually stopped talking to someone I know when I learned this, because they stanced their BMW m 300 or whatever

How do you feel about stripped out track cars with massive brakes, rock hard suspension and slick tires being driven around other vehicles?
Cant stop because cant always cold brakes. No grip because non prepped surface and cant heat tires up to operating temperatures. Rock hard suspension sends the car searching over typical shitty road surfaces.

I wanted to go to /po/, but typed the wrong URL, landed here, and saw this thread. Can anyone explain what am I looking at? What's the point of rigging a car like that?
>>
What does /o/ think of battlestancing?

I'm not sure if it's the correct term so I'll do my best to describe it.

Wheels that aren't too big, 17 inch on an e36 for example.
Fat, meaty tires.
No camber, keep the wheels straight.
Nose dropped a little and ass higher up than the nose.
>>
>>17173056

It's for faggots that don't want to enjoy the ride quality, and love scraping their oil pan whenever they drive over a blade of grass.
>>
>>17173111
Trips of truth, that however didn't answer my question.
>>
>>17173139

Functionally there's no point in doing this.

It's a thing called stancing where you lower your car far too much.
The wheels standing like that is called camber, it is often used in drifting setups, but the cars /o/ hates on are far too low and have far too much camber.

The problem with a lot of camber is that your tires will wear unevenly, plus the fact that you're not using most of the surface area of the rubber, giving terrible handling and a risk of flying out of a bend that any normal car could take easy.
>>
>>17173158
So the purpose is purely aesthetic?

To me those cars look like ass.
>>
>>17170058

Because bags in my area are used in Euro cars and people here try to stunt their money on other people. Being static is a big fuck you to them. Here its about fitment, like I previously said fitment is easy on air but fitment on static takes effort.

Going over speed bumps at an angle isn't that big of an issue like everyone says, just go over it sideways and scrape. The best part is when people snap neck for good or for bad when you scrape over something. Me and my friends went to a Cars and Coffee meet and posted up across people on bags. Leaving they aired up and left, while we just sent it and scraped.

>>17178352
How is stance an awful culture? Just because they lower their car that speed bumps require more attention to go over? Poser vultures and weebs don't have the money to even touch their cars or have the balls to go low. Stance requires some form of dedication and to stick with being low. You can't just generalize everyone who likes stance as those people. Some of the nicest people I've met were stance kids. They don't have to flaunt their money infront of you with bags on some new 2017 car like many Euro owners within my state.

It's a product of the millenial "nobody loses everyone gets a trophy" and "I want attention NOW" mindset. You make your car worse in every way, a bunch like minded of people fellate you for it, and you get to call people who gawk at you "haters"

kek, i miss the daily stance threads
>>
>>17178816
Because the only reason to drop your car like that is because you want attention. Ergo, it is faggotry and should be ceased. You get rightfully glared at by real enthusiasts and normal people alike and cheered on by human trash like yourself.

Go hit your vape, stancefag. It probably tastes better than the truth. Get back to us when you can build an engine.
>>
>>17179702
Also buying aftermarket rims makes you a double faggot so that automatically applies to all stancefags.
>>
>>17166386

How is getting aftermarket wheels faggotry?
Are you one of those OEM puritan retards?
>>
>>17179688
its funny because people have been stancing since the 1930s and 1940s

why every hater so goddamn ignorant
>>
>>17181089
Exhibit A everyone, stancefaggots are so dumb they think any lowered car prior to their history with stance was also stanced, and then they predictably call EVERYONE who doesn't like their stupid club of fitmentfags a hater.
>>
>>17181126
lmao this dumbass probably thinks stance = hellaflush

he even gets irritated at being called what he is (a hater)
>>
>>17166386
its funny to make your car weird lol :D

Retarded nigger

Explain how buying lighter wheels that allow for better tires is a bad thing
Go ahead, I'll wait

>real enthusiasts
Such as yourself? Lmao Keep trying
>>
>>17181126
Damn dude you are fucking angry

People have been scraping rails since the 40s at the least
Why? Because they like to
Same exact reason why someone would lower their mercedes and get some flush fitting wheels...

It has nothing to do with trying to fit in or showing off or making up for some downfall of your personal life
Thats what le supreme enthusiasts do, trying to fit in with circle jerking hard parking baby boomers at cars and coffee every Sunday morning

Not all trannies are bolted to the chassis and some rears are bouncing around, the tranny is generally just in for the ride and the driveshaft U joint does the rest. Not sure how it works for 4WD, I presume the transfer case allows for movement, too.

It's a spacer that goes on the engine mount lol. They also make a trans mount spacer. I've also raised my diff so the axles don't pop lmao
It's all very common on rock crawlers and the diff is just geometry lol you want the axle to be flat

how big is the spacer? Does it cause any problems or negative side effects?

>>17184825
oh so the middle join in the driveshaft takes care of it? I always thought trannys were always bolted to the chassis but guess it makes sense since the engine can move around and you wouldn't it to if the tranny was bolted to the chassis.

3/4" just enough to push the pan above my crossmember and out of harms way
No problems, negative side effects are more feedback like running harder engine mounts.

This board is so fucking cancer

Number fuckers who arent even old enough to drive the corvette or CR-V their mom bought them will be waiting by their phones in school all day to tell you how shit your car is and how it clearly isnt driveable, meanwhile you boost past their middle school scraping frame like who gives a fuck

Its all these top gear fags who have no visual taste and think everything on a car is going to explode if you do something not recommended by GM techs.

Grow some fucking balls kids, beat your car up, its just a toy

Stop being so broke
