There is a 1977 Saab 99 Turbo test car for sale near me, 1 of 40 ever imported to the US. The guy wants $750, he says the rust is very bad. Odometer reads 70k miles, car is 95% complete. Do I buy it regardless of the condition? I feel like this is big. When does it become impossible to fix rust?
save her anon. make it your project. better than letting it rust away
Depends on your skills/size of wallet. If you're looking to restore it you'll have a hard time finding parts I'm pretty sure. If you're looking to flip it you probably won't get hurt.
As far as rust goes, there is no fixing metal that has completely oxidized. If it has never seen a salted road you may be alright. The 2 photos look pretty damn clean considering the age. Floor pans can be patched or replaced if you can find replacements. Again it comes down to your fab skills or wallet.
"Rust is very bad" got a pic of the underbody? Considering the foliage in the background I'm guessing it is down south and the seller has never seen a rust belt car.
If it isn't completely rotted out underneath I'd hit it.

>When does it become impossible to fix rust?
When you run out of time, money or motivation.
Would need to see better picks of rust.. but even at that price, if it was to much for you, you could sale it on a Saab classifieds board and break even. Where in the u.s. are you?
Owner tells you something is *very bad*
They are selling for 750.
It's fucked anon. Unless you can weld, which you can't.
He most likely means structurally, the underside isn't there.
Look along the bottom seam of the doors. Now, tell me. Do you see rockers?
With how low that is to the ground, it's totally rotted through dollars to donuts.
That's such a cool car, with a mig welder, some hammers, and determination you can save an awesome piece of automotive history.

The door bottoms on a 99/900 cover the sills so you can't see the sill itself unless the door is open.
