That box allows spark timing to be adjusted, with theoretically could effect emmisions in a negative way if it was done incorrectly.

So this is a late 80s F-150 and someone installed a meme box ignition instead of accepting the court-martial TFI ignition recall. Okay...

Plug the TFI back into the distributor. Remove the funny box. Go to a different smog shop because by law the work can only be done by a smog mechanic.

OR go to a smog mechanic and let them do it
