Hey /o/
I own an 06 Jeep TJ and the other day when I tried to drive home it wouldn't start. After being bump started and driving home I thought it was the starter. I took the starter off and then used jumpers too test it and it worked fine. I then checked the connection and it was also fine. What the fuck else could it be?

Sometimes battery cables fuck you around if they're old and shitty. On my ford pickup I have to jiggle the battery cables around to get it started.
>>
Sounds like it could be a weak battery or loose/bad battery cables.

Test the battery, check your battery cables and check the solenoid.

>it wouldn't start.
Symptoms?

Click? No click? Click, whirrrr? Click, grind? Click, chug, chug, chug? Click, chug.......chug........................chug?

Get the battery tested, clean your terminals and make sure all connections are solid and corrosion free, replace the wiring if need be. Use a good solid 2 or 4 gauge wire, properly crimped and soldered ends. Check your solenoid too, they're a known failure.

Was it going "click" when trying to start it, or was it cranking but not firing? Cranking and not firing is usually a weak battery if all other things related to fuel air and spark are in working order, "clicking" when you turn the key is the solenoid sticking or not engaging correctly, usually fixed by a solid whack to the starter with a hammer or wrench, but is a temporary fix.

If all that checks out, move onto the ignition cylinder and wiring between there and starter.

Relay? Clutch safety switch?

+ 1 for checking the starter relay- clutch safety switch, and the ignition switch

In my experience when the solenoid starts going bad the starter will always work fine out of the car.

But you add heat soak (resistance) to everything and it wont work.
