>When your car has an NA 1.4L engine with 89 hp but still gets to 60 in 8 seconds without ever running it

This is a retarded meme because the 8 seconds figure comes from ice + electric engine and its massive torque.
Try to do the same acceleration with very low batteries and see how the performance descreases
>>17134999
This one is fucking stupid because the EU forced premium brands to sell a certain percentage of economy cars.

Theres a rather large battery reserve, so I find that even at low battery the acceleration is more or less the same.

Full acceleration in the Volt is done without ever running the engine. Acceleration is nearly identical once the batteries deplete and the engine is running.

I'm not totally sure, but I think the engine comes on at 20% charge and runs only enough to sustain that charge level. There is a 5% reserve. Absolute bottom is 15%, at which point the computer limits the power to allow the engine to catch up. This is a rare circumstance which will most likely happen if you're driving at high speed up a steep grade. For this, there is a "mountain mode" setting, which increases the size of the buffer for climbing mountains or driving *extremely* spiritedly.
