Hey guys so I'm between the FiST and the FoST
I am planning to have whichever I get for a good while are they both cheap and easy to maintain?
Reliable?

I'm in Austin and I can't find a good used one of either
>>
>>17132651
I have mixed feelings about the RS.
>>
>>17132739
A new FiST with recaros (the ST1 cloths suck compared to FoST1) is much more worth it imo. I have a FoST1 I bought used (about same as new FiST) and the value went down a shit load and now i'm not sure if i want to keep it

Looking back now I think the FiST would be more fun, and I don't need the extra space (the dash and backseats are fuckhuge so most of it isn't useable). Also would have been more fun with mods I think. Don't get me wrong tho I'm still tracking/autoxing my FoST and trying to get it's full worth, but in the back of my mind I kinda wished I got the FiST with recaros in kona blue.
>>
>>17132769

I don't know if I'm able to get full on new unless I give a left nut. But I could try.

Im liking the blue alot dude. And ok well what about the "power" difference?
Is it not too noticable since they're different sizes?
>>
>>17132796
The power is noticeably different, but the FiST is much more nimble and feels more natural. Still the power delivery on stock tune is kinda ok, but with a tune you can get more natural feeling power
The FoST is heavy feeling and you lose some certainty at low speeds. 50 less HP, 70 ftlb less, 500 lbs lighter
>>
>>17132827
Basically I'm better off with the FiST lol I was actually hoping so.

And are parts for them cheap since its ford?

>>
>>17132850
yeah maintenance parts are cheap and since it's new enough you'll probably get a warranty. $3.50 for oem oil filter and you can find it at walmart.

the most expensive thing I had replaced was the radiator which was like $400 i think? Covered on warranty

>>
>>17132897
It really isn't guy...the RS is a very flexible vehicle and just as fast on any competitive track I really don't see it as fair with your highway pulls mindset. This car has much improved slolam speeds and times and is a way better driving experience.

I'd imagine they jsut didn't want to put the R&D into retrofitting one for the production model and raising the entry cost that much further because it was AWD

Which is sort of the problem has with the RS right now, it's too expensive for a small hatchback for the mass market.

RS produced the ST and RS, while SVT is SVT. Outside of both being owned by Ford, neither group is a part of the other.

>>
>>17133772

Gonna find that out when I strip it for paint. I know my car was an accident victim and repaired about 20 years ago, so we'll see if I can unjank it a bit when I tear it all apart.
>>
>>17133786
yeah see you're wrong there bud.

The entirety of the group falls under just "Ford Performance" division.
SVT is now ST because excluding the Raptor, SVT no longer produces anything because they're now ST, Sport Technology.

You're clearly out of the loop so i dont blame you
>>
>>17133812
That's not how it works.. The new ST was developed by Ford TeamRS, along with the RS. (the team they replaced was SVE, not SVT)

SVT had was not a part of the ST nor RS produced models.

THE MK1 Focus ST170/SVT wasn't even done with TeamRS, it was done with SVE (Special Vehicle Engineering) and SVT.

FiST is just smaller and some people really enjoy that. It tackles tighter corners better (the FoST's turning radius is not a highlight).

I love my FoST though, and needed/wanted the extra cargo capacity. It was a small step-down from my Mazda 3, but I can still fit a lot in there.

I have the Cobb downpipe and exhaust and five minutes into the test drive after I blew an oil line off the turbo and pissed oil all over the highway. Dealership warrantied it, said the banjo bolt holding in the oil line came loose and fell out lol.

Now, with the Cobb stage 3 tune I've noticed that the blowoff valve flutters under full boost. I want to believe that tune cranks up the PSI by a few so the blowoff valve will be the next thing to be replaced.

I just got back from the ST Octane Academy just outside of SLC. It's a free day of race instruction, and like $1800 for another day addon. It was fucking amazing, and there's an RS school too. FUCKING GET YOUR BITCH ASSES OUT THERE if you can.
>>
>>17132486
I drove both at the ST Academy, and own a FoST. The FiST is a bit more squirrely/slippery on the back end, I could see the attraction, but I enjoyed the FoST more.
>>
>>17143933
I just setup my date for that shit.
Too bad there wasn't a day that had the mustang addon available.

Maybe with the next-gen Fiesta.

I read an interview with one of the TeamRS people about this a while back. The current Fiesta platform can't handle AWD without major changes that weren't practical to do with a platform that only had a few years of life left, and they didn't think an FWD FiRS would sell enough to be worthwhile. (Basically it would end up costing enough that people would just spend a bit more and buy the AWD FoRS instead.)

However, it might happen with the new Fiesta if the platform is AWD-capable.

How do you guys cope with the 5-door? A 3 door would be perfect but it's not like there's much practical difference between a 3 and 5 door. And ultimately it's easier to haul passengers and every normie prefers 4 doors on the sides to 2.

Early production and some mid has an engine cast with a line on high side of engine cylinders 2 and 3 that has cracked on like 25 cars. Endoscope will tell you if you have the reinforced revision which nobody is having issues with. If you have this hex plug on engine you are reinforced V5 block. Ive been looking into one of these cars for my next whip. Honestly leaning more towards the FiST than the focus.

In a lot of the reviews that Ive watched most people enjoy the FiST and say its more like driving a 'sportscar' while the focus is more like a muscle car. Can anyone relate?

>>
>>17163463
RS has capability to tune very well as long as you compromise the risk if you have the V4 engine. 93 octane Tune on V5 engine is without incident and puts the RS in a league above the GT at a cost of $650 until you supercharge the GT at many thousands but then the GT is very squirrly.

Why are these so popular? Serious non-sarcastic question. I gotta say I'm surprised at how much people love ST's and RS's. Not just on /o/ but basically everywhere.

Explain the magic to me, /o/. Help me understand. Are they like the only good hot hatch available new right now? Do they offer something nothing else does? Are they really THAT good? Or is this all a meme?

Not trying to be dismissive, actually the opposite.
>>

>Turbod
>Recaros spice up what is otherwise a pretty shit interior.

My local Ford dealer has a NEW 2016 Fiesta ST on their lot for 17,800. That's 2016, not 2017. 0 miles on it, brand new, and that thing has been sitting there unsold since probably late 2015. How low do you think I could talk them down? They must be sick of looking at it. 15k? even lower?

How do I out jew the jews into letting me take this car off their hands. I'm in no hurry, I could offer them 14,500 or something and give them my number and just wait. Think that would work? Anyone ever gotten a car waaaaay below sticker price before like this?

>>
>>17178117
I wouldn't have considered getting an ST without them, they were actually a major part of what drew me to the car in the first place. (Supportive seats are a big deal to me since I hit the canyons a lot, and thanks to side airbags etc. it's not really practical to swap for aftermarket in newer cars.)

I'd recommend finding a used ST with a decent amount of mileage on it to try sitting in, the seats really break in over time and they'll probably feel way too tight in a brand new car. I think a lot of the people who complain about them being uncomfortable haven't tried ones with 10+k on them.

>>17179181
New, on Dec. 31st '13. I may have been the first on /o/, there were certainly a lot of anons asking about it when I posted pics the next day. I got a really good deal on mine (23k loaded after TTL with 1.9% and they gave me way over KBB for my trade-in) and it wasn't until over a year later that I saw used ones start to hit prices where they would've been a better deal.

I kinda get it if you're the kind of guy who really cares about car clubs and stuff like that. I went to a meet once and it was full of faggots, and the forums aren't very good either. Fortunately I have my own car friends and don't need to bother with brand meet kind of stuff.

good deal? I live in the US and this is canada so in USD it's only like $2200. I win't have the money for about a month and I figure it'll be long gone by then

Dunno about that, but since you just bought a new ST, See if you can find a way to get your ass out to SLC for the Octane Academy. Fucking awesome day, and the FPRS day 1 upgrade was awesome too.

i have the st2 package minus the sunroof. sound is kinda wonky if you are using bluetooth because you can turn the sound up with your phone and the car stereo. i usually run my phone highest volume and adjust from the sony system as needed

Anyone here got the MR230 upgrade for the FiST? What's it like compared to normal?

Enjoy your 75k engine rebuild

Not that package specifically, but I have an intake, intercooler, and a custom 93 tune that puts out ~230hp/~260tq. It's night and day compared to stock. E30 gives a bunch more torque, but about the same horsepower.

I wouldn't spend money on the locked down OTS Mountuners, their custom tunes are pretty good (Randy is the man), but the MP215/MR230 isn't a good value if you're in the US.

or just spend 50-100$ bucks for a mechanic to look it over

the fuck is with people and sperging out with titles, it takes literally nothing to "total" a car these days.

my focus was "totaled" and rebuilt by the previous owner. he replaced the bumper cover, headlight, and radiator, and pulled the bracket holding the radiator and headlight back into place.

just get it looked at first.

Why would you do such a thing? If you want better handling just go get a 1SS 2016+ Camaro for that kind of money.

You're paying more for less engine.

How do I make my base model focus faster for cheapish? It's a 2005 NA ZX3 with the 2.0 Duratec engine.

You don't. It is an econobox and that is all it will ever be

Zx3 has a fantastic light-ish chassis at around 2600 pounds, it's just stuck with a pretty lame economy motor.

Swaybars, brake pads and better tires if you want it fun on back roads

The NA 2.0 is long stroke and low revving, pretty much need to go turbo to make any power out of it. It's not worth doing non turbo mods to it.
