Chevy Volt has a .8L I4 generator that it uses to power the electric drivetrain, and/or charge the battery.

You'd probably need a small battery, or some beefy cap abomination, but in theory you could just remove the battery and run it on the generator. You'd want a larger generator, as was mentioned, if you'd like to go fully hektik though.
