Why are these so expensive now? Yeah they're made by "BMW", but a well-optioned Cooper S will cost you as much as a 2 series. For this kind of price-gouging, you'd at least expect them to make these things with an aluminum frame and body to make them lighter/sportier.

For the same reason BMW's are expensive.
Badge whoring.
>>17121016
Hippies love mememobiles. It would be stupid to not cash in on that.
>>17121016
They always were
>>17121016
So the older minis are less expensive. This model year is when mini's have made the leap from feeling like a distinct brand with their own identity to feeling like BMW-lite. It's a shame, because the older versions have some decent sporty chops.
>>17121016
A base cooper s is like 26k which isn't terrible. It only gets expensive if you get every package and the nice leather.
>>17121035
This is also true. Mini kinda follows the Porsche model...there are so many cosmetic options available, and many of them are quite expensive.
They start at 21k, that's pretty cheap. What are you taliking about?
>>17121063
I went through and added every single available option and package including punstriping and a hundred other things and it was still "only" 36k for the 2 door hard top. That's not a lot for a new car these days. A fully loaded F-150 is like 60k for comparison.
>>17121016
cause bmw has a vast army of impressionable, normie, simps who will buy anything they sell and think its the best.
>>17121131
Nevermind, over 70k
>>17121131
"""""only"""""" 36k for a fucking fwd sub 200hp grocery/latte getter that's unreliable as fuck somehow.
>>17121177
At least it's faster and probably better riding than the Mini. And even a Ford is more reliable than a BMW.
>>17121131
I was able to spec out a cooper s 2 door hardtop to over 42k. Most people seem to go for the S anyways.
>>17121182
kek, the S model is still sub 200hp.
