A supersport isn't a 911, it's a 911 GT3. It's spending like 50% more for a performance improvement you can't notice without near the limit cornering and a massive reduction in road comfort and usability.

sort of want a bike recommendation (not really wanting to buy the following, just curious)

> something small in capacity (400cc or less)
> great power to weight
> insanely well polished, fantastically engineered and premium bike

The only thing that sort of matches these are the HRC NSR250 and the KTM RC250 R, which are both track-only Moto3 bikes.

Basically, a modern version of the 90s 250 2-stroke race reps or I4s. Does any company really make small and premium bikes, or does small equal economy now?

If so, what's the smallest cc bike with that level of finish and premium?
>>
Speaking of Porsches

Raced a Boxster S on the way back home today. We both hit about 250km/h on the freeway, weaving in and out of cars, hitting corners at 180 for about 3 minutes.

Pretty fun stuff. I was a bit faster on the straights and acceleration but he was quicker in the corners and the ground was slightly damp so I didn't want to lean it right over.

Eventually we hit a bunch of cars and people going slow in the left lane so we couldn't go any further. Gave him a thumbs up and he gave me one back and I pulled into the slow lane to wait for my friend.

No it's not.

>Horsepower is defined as the amount of energy required to lift 550 pounds, one foot, in one second. From this definition you can see that the components of horsepower are force, distance and time. Distance and time are self-explanatory but force, specifically a twisting force, is what torque is all about.

>>

Torque is a physical quantity, horsepower and RPM are units.
Power (a physical quantity for which horsepower is one of the common units) is NOT energy, it is the partial differentiation of energy delivered over time.
Furthermore, power = torque * time^-1 only works if that time is constant, which only applies at constant speed. Since you boyracers are likely talking about acceleration, power would have to be the integral of torque over an RPM range.

/dbt/ I am in need of some advice.
I have been riding my XR650L for almost 2 years now, but have been looking to get a street bike. I like the look of the CBR600F1's and F2's but I have no street bike experience at all.
I know even though it is less displacement than my current bike, it's going to be a whole different monster, and was wondering if you guys think I should get a smaller bike (250-400cc) to learn the ropes of street bike riding first, or should my experience with a dual-sport carry over well enough?
I have read that the F1's and F2's are pretty unforgiving to beginners, and although I am confident with my current bike, I feel a little nervous with no experience on anything else.
>>
>>17104262
it will carry over fine. Hard to go from street to dirt but really easy to go from dirt to street.

and those ones are pretty easy to ride compared to modern sportbikes
>>
>>17104262

If you're genuinely feeling nervous and unable to trust yourself, I'd say you should look for a smaller bike to ride around first, but in all honesty, you should be fine. Maybe 1-2 weeks tops to get into it, provided you already have 2 years experience.

Helmets aren't cheap. I think mine was MSRP like $300 or something, and it's not even high end. You do NOT want to go cheap on a helmet. You'll get something impossible to clean, with no airflow, wind buffeting, and tons of wind noise.

Gloves are definitely cheaper, but not $50 cheap. Don't be an idiot and buy some "nice work gloves" either. Riding gloves are made for riding for a reason.

This is your safety we're talking about, so however valuable you are to yourself is up to you.

What if they made a bike that was Less than 300lbs, made about 30horsepower, had 10 inches of suspension travel, got 70 miles per gallon and only needed 3 valve clearance checks in 100,000 miles.

Guys what if it only needed oil changes every 3000 miles and had a top speed of around 100mph.

Seriously guys, what if it could cruise on the freeway and keep up with traffic at like 80mph without any trouble.

What if it had high quality upside down forks and an aluminum perimeter frame chassis

What if it was fuel injected and smooth at highway speeds with linear power delivery.

Guys seriously, listen up.

Guys, what if someone made the perfect bike?

Get Pirelli Angel GT's. They are so damn good fo cornering yet have amazing wet road capability.

I live in the Netherlands, we only had 140 dry days in 2015
>anon thats bs

http://www.clo.nl/indicatoren/nl000418-meteorologische-gegevens-in--nederland

Just look at "droge dagen" (dry days) and look under 2015 if you want to see for yourself.

All motorcycle magazines do come together and do a massive tire test once a year, I think I still have it lying around somewhere. They make ranking lists based on single aspects, for example mileage, and then compile all those rankings into a single master ranking

It's pretty much tied between the michelin PR4, Pirelli Angel GT, and the Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact. The last 2 are actually made in the same factory and some rumors say it's the same tire but with different siping (is that the correct word for the water channels?)

Two major criticisms they had about the pr4 are it's dependancy on stable tire pressure. 0.1 bar can already make a noticable difference in wear. The front tire also tends to cup prematurely. However, its wet conditions capability is unmatched. Even their car tires are amazing. Most people here call michelin the "rain king"

Gimme that and I can abuse a fun bike on the weekends, not ruining it by commuting on a boring reliable bike.

I think the main thing getting in my way of leaning is body positioning in corners. I'm too fat, lazy, or inexperienced to move my butt around on my seat and lean off it like I see people do. Maybe part of it is the standard bike riding position though. It's definitely not a sport bike.

Most of my riding experience in the past has been dirt, so twisties riding position doesn't feel natural yet.

I ride in less than ideal conditions and my fingers would freeze off if I kept them straight at all times. I keep them covered (with 2 fingers each) when I'm less than ceil((speed[km/h] / 10)^2 / 10) * 10 meters away from the car in front of me, which is mostly lane splitting and other slow-speed stuff innacity. If I had windbusters I guess I'd keep both covered but those look silly on a naked bike.
I have a windshield, I like it because it increases my top speed by 10 - 20 km/h and I have somewhere to hide when I'm going over 100 in sub-5°C rain. Get a generic Puig shield, they're cheap and do the trick.

body position is only really like 15%...maybe if that of cornering.

Really body position is like your icing on the cake, it means nought if you're not going fast enough to make it needed, if it gives you the confidence to lean more then that's all gravy (I'm very much like that). but don't caught up on it, it's a tiny part of the equation of turning, you come up in a turn with somebody who sits bolt upright but trailbrakes well and can leave a black line on corner exit he will annihilate you over and over again no matter how good your mid corner speed is.

I strongly disagree, you have to be relaxed [enough] in order to concentrate on and heel what front and rear ends are doing.

corner exit is piece of a cake (at least it was for me), easy to master: you give more gas and earlier, safe

dealing with front end is harder, you can't do shit if your hands are numb. thus you have to learn what is good BP and what it's or you're fucked.

just rode home, it was traffic literally from my office and all the way to my building. first time I got caught up in it on a bike.

every car yielded and let me lanesplit, im really surprised to find that the cagers in my city are bros.

Older low displacement (650cc) metric cruisers are absolutely everywhere and very inexpensive on Craigslist in the US.

Be maximally careful when you lane split. All it takes is one guy to try to creep and nose into the next lane or some guy to open their door to dump some old coffee out on the pavement and you are fugged.

Really always remember to avoid the space where car doors open to avoid amputation of your dickbeaters. If some car stops in a parking lot expect the door to fly open.
>>
>>17105631
sure but i'm not knowledgeable enough about bikes to be comfortable buying one private rather than from a dealer trade-in. i guess all i'm asking is whether 4k is the right price and if i should accept any extra dealer fees at all. the blue book gives a 4.3k estimate which is what i expect to pay after tax.

Motorcycles are really simple mechanical ly and you can see everything except inside the engine. Check for sprocket wear, check for rust in the fuel tank, check for pressure in the brake levers, ect. Many checklists on the internet.

Always assume the oil needs changing and the valves need adjusting.

Honestly there is little that can go wrong with your usual Japanese cruiser especially when its rocking some 650 thumper or something. Its not like a car that can have quirks and nuanced flaws you won't notice on first glance. You'll save money buying used.

Also, motorcycle ownership typically implies some degree of willingness to do mechanical work and basic maintence, ESPECIALLY if you ride a cruiser or dualsport. They are made simple so anyone can work on them.
>>
>>17105707
why would you be here unless you're still a learner
once you get your licence and can ride big bikes the game is over
>>
>>17105725
but lots of owners dont do maint on them
>>
>>17105727
>why would you be here unless you're still a learner

I like giving people bad advice on how to ride motorcycles to see if they follow through and crash.
>>
>>17105612
>I'm guessing you meant something a bit different but it came out weird.
yep, it turned up weird.

meant there is an easy drill: you pick one corner and you start to give more gas once you feel the bike is upright enough to take it. then you gradually give it more and more gas and do it earlier. it's not that hard.

learning to control the front end is like 100x harder
>>

Yeah but there is a big difference between not doing maintence on a Honda Shadow and not doing it on a KTM or BMW.

since no one else is giving you a straight answer, that's about 1k more than what you should be able to get in a private sale vs a dealer, but dealers usualy give it a bit of maintenance when it comes in the door.

check this for an idea of what to pay.

When you're talking about buying a bike older than you are, I figure you're buying it because it's special or something. Buying a 30 year old ujm is a special type of masochism, just get a late 90s vfr instead.
