I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma:

>Live in Michigan
>Live where there are many large hills & curvy roads
>Want fun & practical car
>Does not matter whether FR, RR, or FF
>Something I can slowly work on over and slowly upgrade, not too costly
>Been doing research for more than 3 years on cars of all kinds, not biased towards one brand
>Stuck between 3 cars:

>87-89 Z31 300zx (little part support, but there is a local datsun specialist, mid size hatch, independent rear suspension, dedicated community, can get a 100k example for less than $6k)

>99-02 NB Mimi (massive aftermarket, cheaper to maintain than the Z31, can only carry a spare tire and 3 bags of groceries, because MI hardtop is a must so add $900 - 1k for an OEM top)

>88-91 CRX (Honda parts bin galore, even cheaper than Mimi, can find a very good example for $5k, practical hatch, slow but fun)

I live near my Uni. in an apartment so I don't have a garage, but my first purchase outside the car (and various small driv-ability upgrades like undercoating) would be an all season car cover.

I always park in a safe area where nobody else parks, but I always fear some drunk sorority dinddu would try to steal my shit, scratch it, or damage it in some way, so this plays a big role in my decision.

I've been fighting myself over these cars for a long time, written to various shows for advice, and consulted my uni car club to no avail.

What does /o/ think I should do?

>300ZX
>Hatchback

FASTBACK

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>17074806
Nobody would steal a Miata. Your CRX would be gone within a week.
Z31 is pree chubchub desu. I loved mine but they're more cruiser cars than a curvy road car.
>>
>>17074870
Yeah, I really love the Z31 and it's longbody wedge car design. I always go traveling so it's cruising mentality is something I highly admire. Did you use yours as a daily? That's something I'm obviously going to be doing.
>>
>miata
>hatch
are you retarded, op
>>
>>17074997
Sorry for late reply senpai, it was a daily for a while, then I had to move to somewhere I couldn't take it with. Ended up buying a 280Z when I got there, but that thing was way less reliable than my Z31. One day I'll get another.

>z31 clost to 6k
that better be turbo and immaculate
pretty nice na should be 1-2k, ratty looking turbo ones are around 1500-2k but go quick.
you also don't want it, it's not easy to do much to it upgrade wise. the z community will yell at you for trying to use s-chassis bits saying it won't work even though some of it has been shown to work before. so all the front bit's being put on from an s13/4 should work, could also be butthurt that they're stuck with less brake options etc if they don't swap, or might be sellers pushing the overpriced z31 bits
if you don't want to do too much it's not bad, even na it's a decently fun car

>miata
no

>crx
only con is FWD

the answer is always hatch
the miata is anemic, more than an na older rotary (12a) the crx is extremely cheap to upgrade. z31 and crx are also more practical then the nb
z31 also has a really short wheelbase, the car itself is very long, but the wheelbase is about the same as the miata, and it's irs is kinda a joke
>>
>>17075439
Wasn't referring to the miata senpai~ that's the 'not hatch' part
>>
>>17076737
Yeah, honestly quite awhile ago I myself was considering a 280zx, but I'm sure it would be a maintenance nightmare.
>>
>>17074806

just get the miata desu, save yourself from a lot of headaches and it's probably the most fun to drive out of the 3 anyways
>>
>>17077758
I already have a few contacts established for a mint Z31 if I choose to go that route, in terms of upgradability it really doesn't matter too much to me. I don't ever intend on turning my car into a 'dorito doriftu machinu~' If anything I'll be upgrading components as they wear out, like bushings, suspension, brake lines, etc.

>>17079510
That's what my friends have said, but there is currently a massive premium on Miatas that aren't abused and over 150k. :(
>>
>>17079528

well, you gotta pay to play I guess
