FiST here.

My friend just got an RS and let me drive it a few days ago and now I'm wishing more than ever for a Fiesta RS. I can live with FF, but I'd love to have the RS's steering rack and adjustable suspension, both of which are incredible.

I feel like the FiST is more of a toy car not really serious while the real performance begins with the Focus ST and up.

You can very easily get a FiST for under 20K. You can get a low miles one for like 15K. Thats well within the range of even someone working part time at Lowes or something.

For the record, it's state university and bongs. There's already Subaru threads for vapers and a truckerfag thread for community college.
>>
>>17073592
Speaking as a FiST owner, you're pretty much right. It's a car for the guy who needs a compact and economical daily driver but doesn't want to be stuck in a gutless shitbox every day.

I think the ideal use for the FiST is as a weekday DD for somebody who owns a weekend car or race car or some sort, and a lot of people seem to have them for exactly that purpose, including me. (I have an AP2 S2000 and had an E36 M3 track car project, but sold it a while back and am trying to figure out what to do next.)

FoST is way vapier than the Fiesta man. Most br/o/s pale when they think about being seen in a Fiesta, the Focus is somehow not as bad to them.

The Fiesta's demographic is mostly people who want a fun daily driver that can do autox or weekend mountain runs but is nothing more than a fun daily. I mean, it's performance is great. But it's not winning races (nor should you really want to race in it).
>>
>>17073825
Sport Mode/ESC off.

With ESC on it will cut the power to the wheels to keep the tail in line.

Speed 6 here
>>
>>17075844
mountune really jews you for what you get out of that kit is the only issue I have.. I was able to install all that gear plus buy a real cobb accessport (vs locked "mTune" handset) on my fiesta for around $1k by shopping smartly, yet they want $2200 for that and a locked out accessport you can't do anything with?

I guess you can shout 'muh warranty' and regret it later on if you want, but I suppose the focuses have more issues than the fiestas from what I hear..
>>
>>17075913
Fairly sure the warranty is the only reason it costs so much.
I have considered just saying fuck it and going for a 300hp kit but id rather have a warranty and not need it....
>>
>>17075955
If you're in the US, you don't have to worry too much about "not having a warranty". Not sure the details of your car, but for me I've been running a tuned Fiesta for about 20k miles, and have been modding it for about 25k miles (sitting about 30k right now).

I had my blend door actuator repaired under warranty a month or two ago without any question. I'm fairly certain they'd repair anything else that went wrong with my car without question in the next 6k miles or so.

The stories you hear about people's claims being denied is mostly people who can't drive a car and complain about the clutch or transmission being faulty when they've done nothing but launch the car it's entire life and are butt hurt when Ford denies their replacement claiming it doesn't fall under the warranty.

But don't let me deny you your security blanket.
>>
>>17075844
I got the MP215 kit for my Fiesta ST and I honestly agree with >>17075913

Buying Mountune stuff through Ford and having them install it so so so much more expensive than getting it through Mountune's website (frequent sales, "mountunerewards" coupon code is 15% off, has point system if you make an account) and installing it yourself.

The ST is a reliable car, since it gets rid of the weak transmissions in the base car. And if it needs work, it'll probably be cheap. So I just say ignore your warranty and do what you want with it.

I hate to say this, but it seems to me like the FoST attracts way more boy racers than the FiST does. Most of the Fiesta guys seem to be pretty well aware of what their car is, while the Focus guys think they're actually driving some kind of serious sports car despite the fact that it's still slower than a V6 Accord or Camry.

Nothing but wheels and tires (16" Sparco Terra) on my FiST.

I need brakes and I'm planning on an upgrade, trying to decide what to go with. I was thinking of maybe getting the Mountune pads+steel lines kit.

After that I'd really like to do an exhaust, but I need to go hit up a meet and hear options in person first, because a lot of FiST exhausts sound retarded. I just want it for the sound, I don't think the car needs any more power, nor can it really handle it unless I get an LSD.

>FoST
>slower than V6 Camry

You sure? Camry makes 268hp, FoST makes 250hp but is lighter/grippier/has way more torque.
>>
>>17078442
According to Car&Driver the Camry is 0.2 sec faster to 60.

The ST would obviously destroy it around a track or in a canyon, I was really just making the point that FoST guys giving FiST guys shit is stupid considering neither is a full-on performance car. They're just bigger and smaller versions of the same basic concept, and you can get a much faster car for the price of either if that's your priority and you're willing to give up some practicality/efficiency/reliability. (And ST guys who heavily mod their cars are already giving the latter two up anyway.)

Forgot to add, most examples will defiantly have been ragged about at some point, so if you do find one, take it for a long test drive. Check all the gears, that they don't crunch or jump out. Also listen for engine knocks or rattles.

The higher the mileage, the more chance it's been thrashed about. Another place to look for one is on the various ST owner's clubs, chances are they're better looked after than other examples.

Oh, gotcha, we didn't have those either but I know what they are.

It's weird, it seems like manufacturers in the UK really love releasing all kinds of special editions and named variants and stuff, but you rarely see stuff like that here in the US. We just have trim levels and options instead.

The car I have now has the 125hp 1.0 ecoboost engine. It's essentially a sporty regular Fiesta, it's nice but when I got it 9 months ago I was hit with buyers remorse.

Now there's a deal due to the new shape Fiesta coming soon and the ST is only £25 a month more, it has a lot more toys too as it's an ST3.

Friday can't come soon enough.
>>
>>17079022
it's perfectly reasonable to prefer the smaller and lighter car
>>
>>17079123

I also bought the ST-Line fiesta a month back. I only chose the 1.0 liter 100bhp engine tough, it has such low emissions I get the cheapest possible taxes and the other major reason for choosing it is the low fuel consumption, been hitting around 5,5l/100km for now. So far I'm happy with my decision, it works as a D.D so I'd rather have the a bit smoother suspension than the ST has.
>>
>>17079215
>5.5l/100km
What's that in UK MPG? I am averaging around 37mpg in my ST-Line.

I'm not surprised, the MS3 guys seem to be moving over to FoST/RS in droves.

It's kinda funny actually, I had an 8th Gen Si, then a Mazda2, and now a FiST, and every time I go to a meet I run into people I knew from my last brand's scene, including several who've gone through all three. I'm almost surprised I haven't run into anybody from my mid-'00s WRX days in an ST yet.

Not him, but they're fine. They're not real race seats, they're just regular car seats with a bit of extra side support. My friend is about your height and close to 300lb and dailies a base RS (same seats as the ST) without issue.

Be aware that the seats have a pretty noticeable break-in, and though they feel a bit tight at first they'll eventually kind of mold to you. It's crazy after 3 years of mostly solo driving to compare my driver and passenger seats.

/o/ is a ridiculously small subset of the internet automotive community.

Ford would be better off marketing these cars through SCCA, paying off or at least greasing up Motor Trend/Edmunds, or just making ads on normie social media platforms (Instagram/Snapchat/Twitter).

I wouldn't be surprised if all Ford ST cars (Fiesta/Focus ST) get outsold 5:1 by either the BRZ/GT86, GTi, or Civic Si. Probably closer to 10-15:1 compared to the WRX.

So, serious question that will probably be seen as bait (understandable since /o/ is a shit board): did you guys buy hot hatches instead of proper sports cars by choice, or were you just not able to afford/live with one? Do you plan on "upgrading" to something with AWD/RWD and a bigger engine, or would you rather stick with sport compacts?

I love my ST, but I would have got a sports car if I could but it's incompatible with my lifestyle.

The mazda3 should be way more reliable, and the interior is far better. I own a 2.0 and it's pretty gutless with quite a bit of body roll, so it's really not even close to the ST power/fun wise.
>>
>>17083984

>>
>>17083999
Yea because base model mazda is a shit. 2.5 at least or 2.3T, You can buy MS3 parts and they directly bolt on which is great, MS3 swaybars and ms3 stock suspension made my 2.5 feel 100x better to drive.

I'll probably still sell it for a ms3 one day but those types of cheap upgrades make a difference.

>>17084001

>>
>>17084020
But there's no 2.3T anymore and to get the 2.5l you also need to get the highest trim model so it ends up costing ~4K more for an extra 30hp
>>
>>17084029
I like manual only trims too. It's good for us because it's almost like having a rare car, I've only seen 3 ms3's in my city, but lots of base model sedan shitters.

Why would you buy the gen3? There are so many people out there that cheaped out and got the 2.0 and then ask how they can make more power, Sure, you can make the same power with mods but what's the point in modding the shit out of an econo car?

>>
>>17080942
I bought the ST specifically because my previous DD was a Mazda2, and I loved the size and economy but hated how slow it was. I also have an S2000, so I didn't need another sports car, but I wanted to be able to go straight from work to the canyons and have fun.

I'm more likely to upgrade/supplement my fun car than my ST, lately I've been wanting a cheap Miata or something because the S2000 is getting too valuable to thrash in the canyons, and someday I really want a 911. If I DO upgrade from the ST, it'll probably be to an RS.

You don't realize how stupid a lot of people are and how many people just start shitting bricks once a check engine light comes on or they need to buy a new set of tires.

Lots of lazy fucks would happily take a car payment and the immediate debt it entails with a new car to just not have to deal with the maintenance new cars lack and if anything does go wrong they can just hobble it into the dealership and have them fix it.

I think hyundai is going to come out with a performance line, something like the I30n which is supposed to be up there with the focus ST and GTI. My biggest problem with the car is the suspension it just way to numb when you try to push the car. the power is alright since its comparable to the FiST.

I got a question for my speedbr/o/s in here, is corksport ok? I have cobb rmm, sri, auto tech hpfp, and cobb ap3. I'm pleased with all of it but corksport turbo back is like 800 bucks as opposed to 1200 from cobb. Also would ots ecu maps still work with non cobb parts?
>>
>>17086529
Isnt suspension one the easiest things to modify? You should also take heart that you have one of the most reliable brands on the market. You can go fast longer and with less tow bills than almost anyone else.

Im considering getting a Veloster. Keeping my eye out for a used Turbo at a decent price.
>>
>>17086556
i think this summer ill get a rear torsion bar and see if that will improve the back end. then after that go for a strut brace for the front. not sure about shocks or anything like that just yet.
>>
Anons, is it worth upgrading from a Fiesta ST to the Focus?

I don't really need the extra space of 5 doors, but my local dealer offered me a fair bit of money off.

Also, are the Diesel versions of the Focus ST any good compared to the petrol versions?
>>
>>17086915
Do you want something heavier and bigger? If so, do it. If not, don't do it.

It's not due to them losing coolant, it's a faulty sensor so problems arise when the car is low on coolant and you drive it.

>>
>>17087116
I think you mean faster and more practical.
>>
>>17086915
the focus is more cramped on the inside, handles worse, and gets worse gas milage. I could have bought a FoST for $500 more than my FiST, very glad I didn't make that mistake.
>>
>>17089084
I had the opportunity to get a fist for a bit more than my speed3. Sometimes I think I should have. I was turned off by some stuff, like the engine noise being simulated by speakers or whatever though and the speed came packed with mass stuff too (tech pack one at an incredible price). I wish I had something to have fun in tho without attracting every cop in 5 miles.
>>
>>17089516
the FiST engine noise in the cabin is actually pretty good I think. it's really just amplifying the existing noise by the sound symposer addition. This video shows the change really well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CquuP5ofrYw#t=2m43s
>>
>>17081031
Haven't got pulled over for it yet. Even got bumped at the light and asked the cop about it, said most cops won't care unless you're driving like a fuckhead and they start looking for shit to ticket you for.

My brother got a 2016 focus ST
It seems alright
Handling is kinda Meh, and it doesn't put power down well at all.
But it's a eco shitbox meant to driving to work.

Ford needs to work on the torque vectoring and power delivery.
>>
>>17091169
It's a fun econobox and it does that well.
There's not much else to it unless you mod it.
>>
>>17091169
Kinda hard to argue with one for a daily driver. good for all seasons, gas economy and fast.
>>
I had a mk5 Fiesta ST as my first car. Fun little thing, but it had no torque at all and the intake restrictor gave it a nasty dead spot after 4500 rpms

Srsly is corksport any gud?

Anyone else love the quick steering ratio on the FiST? Reminds me of my old AW11 in that I can basically make any turn without having to leave 9 and 3 o'clock
>>
>>17085114
>>17087763

same reason why people don't like things like traction control, abs etc - they want to connect with the car themselves. be responsible for why the car does the things that its doing. not a computer.

there's nothing wrong with torque vectoring, but don't pretend you have a 'drivers car' when you can't turn stuff like that off. you might as well just buy something with a dual clutch transmission. they shift faster than you will ever be able to.

does the traction control even turn itself off completely? or does it just go into a less intrusive mode?
>>
>>17092061
I dont see anything wrong with ABS but traction control can get you killed.
>>
>>17092012
The steering is real nice but the turning circle I find is really small? Or just me?

>>
>>17097876
Lots of people own an ST.

Really makes you think
>>
all the real niggas bought the SE 1.0T
>>
wtf is the difference between the RS and ST?
Also why would you pay 40k + tax + interest instead of a new mustang gt? I was at Brandon Ford yesterday and I have to say, the RS looks real nice with the blue brembos and stuff
>>
>>17097922

The RS is AWD and has 350~ HP
The ST has 260 IIRC and is FWD only

You could, with that money, be another mustang owner on the street. Or you could have a limited edition AWD focus with close-to-mustang killing ability

Why buy an AR when you can have an AK.
The AK is a more proven gun.
>>
>>17097930
The mustang has more potential for power though. I could be in the 800's with a supercharger and new rods whereas the RS is almost at its limit
>>
>>17097922
>why RS over Mustang GT?

Probably a bit better for passengers and with more storage space. A better daily, rough suspension and turning circle aside.
>>
>>17097937

You're right.
The RS will still sell out, it will still go over MSRP, it will still be an icon for the people who like them.
My Mustang Cobra is pushing out 634HP at 6500RPM now, and it will still never be recognized as much as an RS when that blue ricebox pulls up.

It's just the new meme, you want to be cool and part of the new meme? Get an RS.

I'm sure everyone parts ways when a real 350R comes in though.

I'm with you on this. My alloys are always full of brake dust. Its worse when you just wash car and then it's covered again
>>
>>17101306
>build quality

It's consistent with what you'd expect from a 14k econobox, definitely. 8000km and I'm already having to slap pieces of interior trim to make vibrations go away. You get what you pay for I guess.
>>
>>17101322
I've heard the Mountune street pads are supposed to be a lot better, and offer improved performance too. I need new pads as well and that's what I'm going to try this time around, probably gonna get the kit that includes steel brake lines since those are a huge improvement on anything.
>>
>>17101306
>>17101412
It's weird, I've had my ST for 3 years and almost 40k miles, and have even had a moderate crash in it, and yet it's been rock solid. The only issues I've had have been brake pad wear and a few bent wheels due to the overly thin tires. (Which is why I switched to 16"s.) I don't even have any rattles.
>>
"The other fwd hatch and the upgraded model welcome"

Inferiority complex much?
>>
>>17101427
I'm using the RS-R pads, I like them a lot

>>17101412
I think I got a dud. 14 with 34k
I've had a ton of trim and window rattle issues, only drive-ability issues I've had so far is some bad front end noise over low-speed bumps and It likes to stall after I put gas in it. Also the stupid rear slider pins not being greased from the factory issue, but I took care of that when I did the rotors/pads.
