Just put a new handIebar on my bike. Was never able to stand up on it comfortably without awkwardly bending over. Also the stock bar was steel and all scratched and bent. Replaced throttle tube and grips while I was at it.

Got the KX High bend because the spec sheets show it to be one of the highest bends. Also aluminum because reason.

Took it for a spin and it is a serious improvement in comfort and control while standing up. Also better while sitting. But it still is not quite there in terms of height.

Thinking of getting another 1" riser mounts to put it where I think it should be.

I'm 6'2" 34" inseam. Anyone else have to go to drastic measures to get the bars up to a comfortable height on a bike? Any reason not to get 1" spacers for the mounts?

Posted in last thread but didnt get any replies.

In the market for a new bike, want something comfortable for long trips, has dem torques, has good handling, decent suspension and decent brakes.

My search has be stuck on a fence between the xjr1300 and cb1300

Which would you choose if both can be bought for around the same price?
>>
>>17064189

>>17064189
have you looked at bandit 1200s at all? very cheap in my area.
>>
>>17064189
CB feels a lot smoother around town, fueling seems to be dialed in with a bit more effort over the XJR.

Ask to ride 1 for a day or two then swap.
>>
>>17064189
XJR looks way better and it's not a honda
but CB is watercooled and newer

I'd say XJR because it's only down 8hp, weighs less, looks better, slightly cheaper

but take them both for a ride and see what you like best

Dragging toe sliders and pegs on my fz09 while hanging off the bike. Am I just not hanging off enough or am I going to have to look into adjustable rear sets? Been riding 7 years but this is the first time I've had this problem. Had an sv650 and z1000 before which feel much "racier" now vs the fz09 which feels more like supermotos I've ridden. I have my first 2 track days scheduled for this year and don't want to have this problem then. Fz09 has fully aftermarket suspension so it's not like a soft spring/sag issue.
>>

The peg sliders on that bike are just excessively long.

I did think about hitting them with my grinder. But toe sliders are still touching down. May just be cause I'm in the mountains and is unavoidable as most turns are not flat.

sockets are too hard and will damage the race faces, the face is too narrow for much of anything.
mild steel like this punch wont do shit to the hardened races
the wheels are much more of a concern anyways
>>
>>17064416
>fucking crowbar not going to damage races

a socket spreads out the impact, that big ass pointy thing is going to put nicks in your bearing race, that's why you're not supposed to do it that way, and why bearing presses look like sockets
>>
>>17064416
>sockets are too hard
Hit the socket with a soft faced hammer/mallet then you mongoloid.
>>
>>17064429
>doesnt understand how hardening works
bearing presses are also not chrome plated or hardened steel. unless you have a socket within a few thous of the outer dia of the race it would contact the same spot the rollers do and that would give you chunky movement.

>>17064449
are you fucking retarded?
hardened steel on finely machined surfaces will fuck them up regardless of what you hit it with
thats why you always use a softer metal to contact your workpiece
>>
>>17064449
dont force it

use a bigger hammer
>>
>>17064458
putting dents in the bearing race is going to be worse lol, and it's gonna be way more likely to fuck it up that way than with a socket

Yes you can dent hardened steel with copper.
The idea of using a socket is it spreads the force over the entire bearing rather than it being on a single point less than a millimeter thick.

If you decide to go for it then buy a clymers/hanes shop manual and it will guide you through any maintenance you need to do.

This. My Dad also rides on a popular mountain pass in California, so you get plenty of people there with no idea how to ride the roads, despite owning pretty quick bikes. Some dude in a brand new R9T racer thought it was funny how much he was leaning that big 1150GS around the corners. Don't get me wrong, obviously good guys in sports bikes will walk away, but I just meant he regularly passes a few guys who should be much faster than him on his old fat as fuck adventure bike.

>>
>>17064704
>>17064708

>>
>>17064825
>Can you even stall at a speed above stopping?
Yes, you can try this yourself by putting along at 15mph, shift into second, pull the clutch in, then turn of the engine. You will rapidly decelerate and come to a stop. If you don't pull in the clutch you will most likely dump the bike at it grinds to a halt. This will happen at any speed, if you don't downshift from 6th as you approach a red light, the engine will eventually die and you will stop almost immediately.

If it stalls at speed you will start slowing rapidly, as if you started applying both brakes. Your best bet is to quickly shift to neutral and attempt to coast to the side of the road with hazards on, while keeping the clutch pulled.

yeah but unless you fucking turn the engine off with the clutch out, or are past the point of running on fumes, it will never happen. Your first instinct when shit is happening on your bike SHOULD be to pull the clutch in, slow down, and downshift, which will fix the problem if you get into trouble on a bike. At the very least, you will at least crash more slowly, with a higher likelihood of the car(s) behind you realizing something is wrong/getting out of the way/slowing down.

Cleaned my carbs after getting random flat spots and sometimes unstable idle.

Didn't manage to take the carbs apart, so I just sprayed carb cleaner into the throats of each. Took a loooot of cranking to get up, but now it sounds a fuckton more aggressive and idles stably, but im worried it's sounding that way because I haven't tightened something (even though I made triple sure to leave everything as I found it) or I've lost a cylinder or fucked a spark plug when cranking or something.

Should I be worried about the "improved" sound, even if the idle issue seems solved and it seems to rev cleanly now?

Anybody any ideas what's up?

In the past it was a simple matter of a little throttle and full choke, fire it up and switch immediately to half. Give it a little gas and build the revs slowly to warm it up, for at most a minute even on cold days, then turn choke off and ride.

is it really a problem to leave the choke fully on for a bit more time?
my bike needs like 15 seconds of full choke otherwise it shuts off if I even slightly lower it, so yours doesnt really sound like a problem
if it didnt use to be like that, then it's likely because the tolerances have changed, so it should be back to normal after an engine rebuild (this doesnt mean that you must rebuild the engine because of this)

I swear to fucking god I was kicked out of a charity ride event because my bike was "too loud" and in reality it was because I was the only sportbike in a sea of loud ass harleys
>>
>>17065863
For one there's a stigma around cruiser riders even among non-bikers that they're try-hards who want to act like they're an outlaw biker.

There's also the stigma around harleys in particular, a lot of harley owners are diehard harley fanboys and talk shit about pretty much any other bike. If you ever go to a harley meetup you will definitely understand what I mean and it definitely turned me away from the harley community even though there is a massive amount of resources out there for them.

They're generally more concerned about the image of riding than actually the riding itself, they're not really meant for maximum performance but most are gigantic motorcycles and it's common to fit pipes that are really fucking loud because it's just what a cruiser has (around here).

They have a few drawbacks inherent to their design: pretty much all very heavy bikes for a relatively low power, poor suspension and ground clearance makes handling inferior, a lot have an enormous displacement so fuel economy is not as good as you might expect

These are just generalizations though.

If you want a cruiser then by all means get one, they have some drawbacks but they're still motorcycles and are still fun to ride if you like riding. Have some self esteem and just give them a try but still try other things to get an idea. I'm not interested in them much personally but if I had to pick between not riding anything and riding a cruiser, I'd still ride a cruiser if you feel me.

Usually Vtwins with torks, low center of gravity, easy/relaxed to ride, comfy...

Granted SOME of the audience of mainly HD are incredibly obnoxious, but the same applies to some Ducati riders and a whole slew of sportbike squids....

So I ask you again, if I want a torquey, relaxed 2wheeled transport, why is it wrong for me to wanna ride a cruiser?

Oh and the poser argument is fucking hilarious with your aftermarket slipons that are all noise and hardly any performance gain.
>>
>>17065816
Starting is just much more time consuming and difficult right now. I'll just pull the carb and try to clean it better than last time.
>>
>>17065935
>if I want a torquey, relaxed 2wheeled transport
Big displacement sport tourer/adventure bike do the same thing.
>>
>>17065925
>a lot have an enormous displacement so fuel economy is not as good as you might expect
1600-1800cc and somehow only get 76hp out of them and the 40mpg that people seem to get is about what id expect from such a weak engine
>>
>>17065925
Thank you for your well argumented input anon....

Though your complaints mostly pertains to harley riders, of which I would tend to agree.

I dont want harley mainly because I think they are not worth the premium price.

Oh and I intend to get a cruiser as I prefer torque as opposed to revs, I am just curious why people choose to hate on a general basis... Much like the mentality of harley riders
>>
>>17065950
I am sorry, do you know how torque and horsepower correlate??

Big v-twins are massively undersquare which results in lots of lowend torque but low redline (and thus low horsepower figure).
Much like that MURRIKAN MUSSSEL v8 one hears so much about...

I am not asking for it, I am asking why some in here have such disdain for cruisers?

Personally I have had more bad experiences with sportbike riders, but that doesnt make me hate sportbikes

Torque to weight is the only metric that matters
>>
>>17065971
yes i do and i also know how fucking gear ratios work.
a lower torque bike that revs out to a much higher horsepower will still walk all over a harely at any point.
but i guess when your bike weighs upwards of a a small car you need 100ftlbs to drag its lardass off the stoplight.
76hp is 76hp, its the total power available, and the sv650 makes that much power with literally a liter less size, and guess what, it can deliver the same torque to the tire through the transmission. its why we have the fucking things
>>
>>17066005
Truth is, most cruiser riders are bro tier

>>
>>17066005
We've already told you. It's the same answer everyone who asks the question gets. The bikes themselves excel at nothing performance wise. The reason people buy them is because they like how they look. If you want to cruise and have a big engine get a BMW K1600.
>>
>>17066021

>>
>>17066021
You can ride whatever you want. Many dual sports aren't even that tall. Lowering links and sliding your ass off the saddle to put a foot down are things that people do.
>>
>>17065953
There are a lot of bikes with a very upright position, lower rpm torque peak and better all around performance than you can get with cruisers, most mid-weight bikes are moving to 2 cylinder engines because people want a low range torque. The one thing I can think of that cruisers in particular offer is a pretty low height and long steering rake which is why they feel so stable at speed.
I think people hate on them because they can't look past whatever gives them the maximum performance/cost/whatever spectrum they rank bikes with; not everyone wants to ride fast with as much lean as they can get and carry their braking through turns or generally ride as intensely as they can, and people just can't imagine riding at a slower pace. They're called cruisers for a reason. It's just like how people shit on economy and heavy cars because they aren't at the upper end of the performance scale, even though it is still a car and you could definitely still enjoy the actual drive you take it on.
tl;dr people hate because they don't want people to like what they don't like

I think if you give a bunch of bikes a try and still like everything about the cruiser then you will be happy with that bike and that's all that really matters. It's not the bike but the rider.

>>17065950
My bike put about 145hp on the dyno and I still get around 40mpg when I really give it the beans. Not at track pace though (about 30mpg), but way better than what people expect from the agricultural performance a lot of big cc cruisers put out.

>>
>>17066042
I meant better performance for fuel cost
I have known quite a handful of different people that swapped their big cc cruiser for a smaller bike because for some reason there seems to be an idea that cruisers should get 60mpg just because they're big tractor engines, which just doesn't happen unless it's strictly steady speed highway riding if they're on the right bike.

Its a noob question but i cant find consensus about it
when exactly should i use the clutch and gear lever when im shifting?
for an upshift should i pull in the clutch and wait then click the shifter in on put a pressure on the shifter then click it in as soon as i pull in the clutch?and downshifting is the same question really

it feels smoother to just pre load the shifter for up shifting but down shifting is kinda unpredictable. im not talking about clutch release to the wheel but you can hear and feel the crash inside the gearbox sometimes on up and down shifting but im not too sure

IQ measures your cognitive abilities
it has many different sections testing shit like short and long term memory, rational thinking, problemsolving...
a proper test, carried out by a real doctor (not some online survey) can give you a very good estimate of your potential

i tested 137 and i'm a shitcunt who barely passes exams so don't think it's some end all be all judgement on your character

So here's the deal, you aren't really that smart. Mainly because you lack problem solving and analytical skills.

You did well in school with minimal effort purely because school only requires regurgitation of knowledge, this inflated your ego and makes you think youareverysmart.

So in the end you are short, not good looking, and can't apply the knowledge you've absorbed, if you were a girl would you date you?, absolutely not.
