Yeah, you can get more HP/L out of going from larger-displacement pushrod to smaller-displacement DOHC, but you're going to end up with a physically larger and heavier engine for the same power, so what is the point?
Yeah, you can get a lot more HP/L with the addition of turbochargers. But guess what? You need larger turbos for more power, even if that isn't factored into overall engine volume dimensions. There is still no replacement for displacement, even with forced induction.
There is nothing wrong with using large displacement to make power over other methods. If anything, it means you're engine is less stressed and will last longer.
only relevant metric is power to weight
No shit. That's should be common sense for most. However, Europeans have been brainwashed into thinking the only thing that matters is hp/l.

How the fuck do you only get 1200hp from 16 cylinders and four fucking turbos? And here's the kicker... It weighs almost as much as a fucking Cummin's.

>>17062443
Its meant to be reasonably reliable.
unpopular opinion: Because of wind resistance, to truly get more and more top speed you simply need more displacement. Forced induction won't carry your car as far as pure cubes (pubes lol) can.
>>17062418
645hp and 600lb-ft that lasts throughout the entire rev range, thank you very much.
>>17062455
They have. A 1200hp street car out performs it in most ways other than useless top end which gets beat by a shitty Cessna plane.
"production" is irrelevant here.

It isn't though. Even with 5 figure yearly maintenance work. They can't even handle idling in traffic.

A electric sedan hits 60 faster. Even a sub $15k drag car destroys a Veyron in the 1/4. A Veyron would get murdered at a Texas mile competition. Even on a highway pull there's a plethora of street cars that would destroy it. It's just a rolling advertisement for Arabs to idle around in London. That's all. Meanwhile attainable cars are being used for things that matter.
>17062691 (You) #

Wew lad. You went full retard there.
Flathead- Indestructible
OHV- lighter, smaller

DOHC- more power

A 1,200 HP street car isn't going to perform nearly as well off of the drag strip or be as reliable. Also your american wall of a car is gonna be fighting the air around it at any speed.
>>17062742
The ACR is also probably at the limit of what can be done with a mostly mechanical car.

if it made 600ft-lb through the rev range it would peak at 730hp at that redline
>>17064634
>1.17 lb ft per cubic inch
>1.26 hp per cubic inch
It's possible to make a flat torque curve and 645 hp all the way to 6400 with that low of efficiency.
>>17062399
This.
Yes, racing engines can be more efficient with DOHC and yes, it's better.
But for a street car, displacement is the most enjoyable and reliable.
Faggots push the hp/l meme because they care about muh emissions, on the street you'll enjoy driving a big displacement engine more than a tiny one that sucks emissions cock.
Racing is a different story, not gonna get into that can of worms.

This reminds me of one of VW's most reliable engines of all time - EA827
It was a NA 2.0L 4 cyl petrol engine that developed 109, 116 or 120 bhp.
The cool thing about the 120 bhp one ( the ATF code ), which was found only on the mk 4 Golf and the B5 Passat, had peak torque at just 2400 rpm. It was a large engine that didn't spin all that much and it had so little technology on it that it was just about unbreakable.
Sadly however, big low-reving NA petrol engines that don't break down are a thing of the past.
It's spiritual succesor was the 1.6 MPI 102 bhp, but it had more technology on it, 16 valves and DOHC. It still was a tough as nails engine that never broke down, but this one actually has/had to spin far more than the leviathan 2.0 litre.
Then the 1.6 mpi got the fsi treatment and it all went to shit.
>>17065570
how much do these engines weigh?

i think it's the eyes, but the blonde bitch looks way hotter in a "i'm not MC" sense
