Hey /o/ I've bought and sold quite a few cars/trucks and usually get a pretty good deal. Going today to look at a beater truck to haul my bikes around and got to thinking what is the most efficient way to get someone to lower their asking price? I don't wanna go up and just talk shit about the thing I obviously want to buy. Pic related, how can you not love a shitty old Sonoma?

Also I should be more specific, not hauling a trailer. One single bike in the bed, and to dd my 5 miles to work.

Look under it and tell them it looks like the frame is going to rip out from under it if you try to tow something and follow it up with "I know because I'm an engineer."
>what kind of engineer?
>Social interaction experience engineer.
Depends on age. You can't nickle and dime a 25 year old truck and you can't ignore body/paint flaws on a 3 year old truck. If it's an old shitty beater then the only things to really drive price hard are the components that maintain it moving down the road.
I'm usually just honest, tell them what I will be spending money fixing, and that I don't want to pay $xxxx. Then commence the haggling.
I've never met a person in my life that said they were "firm" on price and actually didn't budge, and I've bought $600 cars before.

Also,
>take all that shit off or knock off $200 for making me have to.
>>17060458
I'm usually pretty honest about it, it has a small oil leak, needs carpet and some paint but that's about it. 200k miles is my strongest defense. He wants 2 grand and I want to pay nowhere over $1,400 for this thing.

Then tell him straight up its 1400 dollars or no deal.If he says no, then either leave the offer open or move on.

2 grand is a lot.
350 swap?
>>17060518
Not a bad idea
>>17060547
Hell nah it's the 2.8 v6 5 speed

>Hell nah it's the 2.8 v6 5 speed
200k is steep for 2k.
Everything else would need to be nearly new or replaced.
Decent truck. I want one myself or same year Ranger.
Some places like Indiana you can find them 350 swapped for 1500 or less.

Use this as negotiation tactic.
>I was hoping to spend 1400 and I have a few others on my list, a little farther away but half the mileage as yours so I think its worth the extra travel if you wont let yours go for 1200.
