Nice! This was my first Auto, always been against them as 'lazy' etc etc.

But after driving in London rush hour for years in a manual, then Houston rush hour in a manual, I was ready to be able to drive home with one finger and one toe.

When I find myself on a windy road while out for lunch? I regret the auto.

When I'm driving home at 11pm and I can hardly stay away, and it's stop and go traffic?? God fucking damn I LOVE that auto.

Plus it makes hauling ass in a manual all the more enjoyable.

I'm jealous of you guys. I didn't properly think of shit and went with a "fuck it do it all" hot hatch as my dd and fun car. I should have gone cheap shit box for dd and less cheap shit box for fun. I get 26ish highway and pay 40 a fill up with 93 (hurray turbos).

forgot to add

>good
-it's pretty cheap to own. much cheaper than my old bmw or audi.
-mine's a very nice color. i like it, atleast.
-midengine layout makes it interesting
-has a fuckload of trunkspace with the 2 combines

>bad
-interior is fucking cramped
-its not short people friendly, or tall people friendly. I'm kinda short, so i have to have the seat fairly forwards and it makes stepping in and stepping out a fucking nightmare. (this is honestly what annoys me the most)
-no aux from factory ofc but i can add it with a cable.
-rear plastic window in soft top is yellowed.
-my car alog with the 996 is known to grade its engine because of the IMS issue. especially lower mileage cars. like mine.
-stock exhaust is too quiet, cutting the muffler out makes it too loud.
-stereo sounds like fucking SHIT because there are only speakers infront of you, and not a single thing behind.
-gets a lot of unwanted attention sometimes, normies think im loaded and i really dont like that.
-my car and 996 are known to have shitty 2nd gear syncros. mine has them.
-its honestly not that fast.

thinking of selling it and getting an old lightning.

But after many hours driving in the city my clutch leg gets sore and I wish I got the automatic instead. Sometimes I miss the clutch and grind the gears because my leg got numb for clutching in and out so much. But sometimes I can blast down some country roads, taking curves like a mad man and I feel it's worth it. it might be a little heavy and only 160hp but it's the fastest car I've owned and doesn't handle bad at all. Maybe I'll be a ble to afford a GTI or a MX-5 once I sort my life around.

It matters for four or five things

Stunting
Serious track driving
Driving downhill (but some autos let you select more than first and second for this)
Fun
Comfort in an econobox (older/shittier automatic transmissions probably shift worse than you. see: corolla.)

And then that's the end of the auto vs. manual debate lest you get into the dreaded manual vs. other kinds of manual vs auto vs. other kinds of auto debate.

>goods
small and light
"okay" gas mileage. About 30MPG regardless of how lightly or aggressively you drive
hatchback can throw 2 bikes inside no problem
don't care if it gets beat up a bit because of dust from work
fun to toss around
modern enough to have OBD2 but not too modern to be totally loaded down with bullshit
good aftermarket could go buy a prebuilt turbo kit for it right now
timing chain
oil changes are super easy
genuinely like the looks of it
manual
can do like 110mph if pushed
really fun at like 5 in 1st gear, 30 in 3rd gear and like 85-90 in 5th gear
one of the last 3 door hatches around, and I like that
extremely easy to cut the front wheels loose
>bad
extremely easy to cut the front wheels loose
shitty interior
shitty plastics
paint is shit
body roll
not very fast
absolutely no traction in rain
just general shitty econobox/shitbox complaints
not that comfortable but OK I guess
door rattles when closed
driver side mirror literally always vibrates all over the place so basically useless other than distinguishing "there's a car somewhere in this area" but no way to see exactly where or what type of vehicle
no sunroof or anything, only two side windows for sunny days

it's been a reliable little guy though, not going to complain for a year now over 5K miles. Only thing I really do is oil changes and I beat the fuck out of this car. Only way I'm getting rid of it is if it goes to the scrapyard, I see no reason to change and every year at work they produce some of the worst dust known to man so no point in getting a really nice car. >>

i see this all the time in these threads. i'd buy it in a heartbeat

how reliable are we talking here? reliable for a classic car, or reliable in general? i'd expect a 40 something year old car to be breaking shit all the time

'14 Fiesta ST

>Best compromise between DD efficiency and sportiness on the market.

>It's a compromise and more DD than sports car.
>>
>>17063058
Pretty sure it's the stripes and mudflaps. Mine (>>17064492) might as well be invisible, even with the white wheels, the only attention it gets is from other ST/RS owners.

>>17064251
How are you liking it? My friend got one in the trademark blue last week, and I just got to drive it on a twisty road last night. Really damn impressive car, and what really surprised me is how chill it is for normal driving. It really makes me wish my ST had the RS's adjustable suspension, steering, etc.

>>
>>17064492
>sportiness
The only thing it's "sporty" compared to is a base model Fiesta; it's just a riced out econobox. I'm under the impression you just heard the word "sporty", absolutely HAD to buy a new car for unknown reason, didn't actually know anything about cars have never driven anything else in your life and need to convince yourself what you bought actually resembles a sports car in any way

Fuck I wish people would stop comparing their cars to sports cars when their frame of reference is econoboxes and slightly faster econoboxes
>>
>>17064531
Eh, other people are listing more than one, so:
Pros:
Very reliable, especially the N55 engine (N54 is a bit of turd)
One of my favorite looking cars period (way before I bought it)
Reasonably fast in a straight line (somewhere between upper 4 to 5 seconds to 60)
Handles surprisingly well, especially with M sport
Transmission is unbelievably smooth (most manual cars with 300+ hp will jerk you the fuck around)
Good driver feedback overall
Well-designed, quality interior
No discernible turbo lag
God-tier I6 engine
It's a modern car that actually has windows
I wasn't sure about the idrive system but now I really like it
The performance gap between it and the M3 isn't that large, especially compared to the gap between the E46 330i and M3
Cons:
The seats aren't bad themselves, but as I said I cannot fucking set them right
Sometimes when shifting at lower RPMs there isn't really power for a second or two (BMW techs described this as "transmission lag", definitely not the turbo either way)
A relatively large amount of misinformation spread about it, mostly on 4chan - MUH X WAS THE LAST GOOD BMW I >SHOULD KNOW BECAUSE I READ IT ON 4CHAN AND NOW I HATE ANYTHING NEWER ALSO MUH DIPSTICK ALSO IT'S NOT AN M3 SO IT MUST BE SLOW AND SHIT YOU ONLY BOUGHT IT FOR THE BADGE BECAUSE MY CAR KNOWLEDGE IS NOTHING BUT BASELESS GENERALIZATIONS.
^ This isn't even a case of "muh haterz" it's just this board is all parroting memes and shitposting nowadays.
Alpine white has a yellow tint to it that annoys me

I will say, if anyone is interested in an E92 don't be put off by /o/ shitposts, it actually is a very good car all around, that said the 2 series (M240i if we're talking 335i) is really its spiritual successor while the actual successor, the 340i/F30 in general is pretty bad due to bloating and numbness. The 4 series is also a bit of a waste given it's 12k~ more over the equivalent 2 series for no real performance benefits
>>
>>17064584
Dude, I don't know what your definition of "sporty" is, but it's definitely not the same one that the vast majority of people, including professional journalists, seem to have. Calling the ST "riced" is particularly ridiculous, unless you've never actually read up on them and think it's a bodykit package or something - it's as different from a normal Fiesta as an M3 is from a 328i or as a Boss Mustang is from a V6.

That said, the point of my post was kind of right in line with what I think you're trying to say - it's not a sports car, it's not even a hardcore "performance" car, it's a daily driver that's been upgraded to make it fun to drive and reasonably quick. Contrary to what you're guessing, I've owned and driven numerous sports and performance cars and used to build track/club racing cars for a living, and my ST is currently parked right next to my AP2 S2000. My frame of reference is souped-up BMWs, and, believe it or not, the ST is still very impressive for what it is. I'm not the only one who thinks so, either, for example my old boss, who dailies a C7 Z06 and also owns a modded 991 GT3 and an E92 M3 race car, drove it and loved it.

People seem to totally misunderstand the point of the ST and get all riled up because of it. I bought mine because I needed something that would be comfy, efficient, and reliable for my hour-long commute to work, capable of hauling reasonably bulky stuff around for personal or work errands, but which would still be fun to take to the canyons or the track. (My shop was 5 minutes from one of the best roads around and driving all the way home and back to get the S2000 would've been ridiculous.)

>It hates any road that isn't paved. And going uphill? Good fucking luck. Cheap, shitty material everywhere, including my dashboard, which is warped to hell.

I like it overall. I may be a little biased towards it considering it was my first car.

My plan is to take the factory 175 BHP\205 lb-ft and give it a nice boost to 400/430. I also plan on removing roughly 200-300 lbs. from the curb weight, which should put it around 2800-2900 lbs.

My '09 has only needed a sway bar endlink and a battery. Other than that just fluid changes and tires like every other car. Also, if you're getting a lot of rattles you might need to replace one(or more) of your motor mounts.

>>17064180
You can use the SVT suspension kit on your car with an omni kit from Massive. Highly worth it as it's around $300 and lowers and really tightens up the car.

Yes, I'm planning on getting the Ford Racing kit, should lower it half an inch. A great deal. It needs shocks, just waiting to scrape up some cash to buy them.

What's a good set of wheels with 4-way symmetry for these cars? I want lower profile tires but not sure what to get, I want something lighter. Not super crazy light cause I don't want to spend too much but I want something like the Work Equip 01 (are these super expensive? Are they any good? I like the looks but I don't know much about them.)

Have an aesthetic shot. I'm sure you can figure out what it is.

Pros:
>fun to drive
>steering is pretty on point despite it being a 90's sports car
>get minimal attention from it (thank god)
>looks good

Cons:
>has busted thermo sensor and radiator within the same month, I'm afraid it'll leave me stranded
>power steering pump has a dumb electric valve that doesn't work half the time, steering is tough and all of a sudden becomes light and the disturbance makes you throw yourself into a curb

2017's been having dead battery issues. I know sport's have been at least.

Hear that later manufacture dates have the problem fixed, computer systems staying on causing battery drain.

Otherwise, comfy car, but so many are around you won't feel like a special snowflake.

Guy you responded to here.
It's a pretty comfy car, but I moved up from a Kia Rio so everything about it seems good to me. Large interior, sensible button layout. Quiet inside. Feels a little sportier to drive than the Malibu etc I tested. It's no speed demon but it hasn't ever felt underpowered to me yet. "sport mode" button is fun but it just gives you better shift control and pours fuel on the engine making it go fast and sound cool. Got mine for just under 30k so don't settle for anything over
