From what i can gather based on loose observation they don't really update their stuff and the STi supposedly isn't as advanced as the Focus RS which it is receiving stiff competition from.

Mitsubishi: A massive fucking shit. Kept all the good sports models in Japan until it was too late
Mazda: Never had an established reputation for anything like Toyota or Honda did in the '90s, RX-8 was never as good as the RX-7
