Are these good cars for the money? Can find one for under $14,000 with less than 30,000 miles.
It's the embodiment of "perfectly adequate".

lol no

Yeah. That's pretty much what I'm after.
Consumer Reports says the 2015 Optimas are all green/reliable.
My second choice was a 2014.5 Camry SE Sport with the 2.5L, it's about $1,000-2,000 more though.

Someone is stuck in the 1990's.

As someone who has driven both cars, the Kia Optima is miles better than the Camry.
The interior is extremely roomy, good HP for it's class, responsive engine at higher speeds (no problems passing on the highway for instance), it's actually put together better than the Camry is as well.
My vote would go to the Optima.

New, Yes. I'd be a little weary of buying them used unless they have really low miles are really cheap. Why get a 2 year old used car for 15k when they go for like 17k new? They're definitely designed to be lease cars and not built to last.
It'll do everything a Corolla or civic will do while being 10k cheaper if you take care of it.

The new one is pretty bland, the previous gen looked really good inside and out, especially for a base model car.

if it doesn't have a v6, don't buy it

I don't know about Korean cars, but Japanese cars have definitely gotten worse.

>2014.5 Camry SE Sport with the 2.5L
>not a 2007+ V6 for well under 10k
why?
