>riding dirt bikes on the road
It won't be a a good dirt bike if you put full road tyres on it...

with 80/20 tyres it will be even more useless on road and not much better than it was with road tyres on dirt...

And with dirt tyres you will not be able to ride it on the road without a 100km trip setting you back a new set of knobbies.

Its just like saying "i am ok with having the worst part of both worlds" instead of just accepting that you poor and getting either an old dirt bike or an old road bike and enjoying whichever one to its full potential instead of gutting the thing and still expecting to have fun on it.

Whats the fucking magic with bleeding brakes?

My bike has functional good brakes. If I grab a hand full of them the bike will stop pretty quickly. The problem is they just feel like spongy garbage.

I have about 1" of free low resistance lever travel before they get firm. When they firm up I have about a half inch of travel before I stoppy or lock up the front wheel.

At the point they firm up I only have about an inch between the bar and the lever. This is on the highest adjustment for the lever.

When I go to the dealership I marvel and become gelatinous when I grab the brakes a new version of my same bike (exactly the same bike, just new). Literally 1/4" of lever travel before they firm up and an easy 2-3 inches of space between the lever and the bar on the highest lever adjustment.

I've bled the brakes twice using the service manual method of squeezing the lever and loosening/tightening the bleed nipples. No significant improvement.

I just bought a hand held vacuum pump and did the vacuum method. Had to remove all the nipples and add teflon tape so they sealed up at the threads even when loosened. It's especially a bitch because the front brakes have 3 bleed nipples and you have to bleed then each in order and rebleed the master cylinder.

The rear brake is especially frustrating because it is spongey as hell too. I used to have to be cautious not to lock up the rear wheel when getting on it. Seemingly over a winter it went from firm and almost touchy to now me having to literally stand on it to get the rear to start locking up.

Both are maybe a little better now since the vacuum bleed but still a far cry from the firm lever of a new bike.

People claim lines deteriorate and start swelling under pressure. But really I have a ton of lever/MC travel before there is even any significant pressure built up.

The bike is only a 2009 with brembo brake components, albeit production brembo tier shit, but i can't imagine the brake components going to shit this soon.

What's the best tire for getting my knee down on an R6?
>>
>>17046692
Every time I bleed I keep pumping through until fresh light colored fluid comes out with no bubbles.

I typically go through most of a bottle of Motul 5.1 each time I bleed.
>>
>>17046698
post current bike and tyre combo
>>
>>17046676
You get a syringe and you pump fluid into the line until no air bubbles come out of the reservoir easiest way to bleed brakes.
>>
>>17046571
>100km trip setting you back a new set of knobbies.

Are you actually retarded? Sure they last less than normal road tyres but saying you should never ride knobbies on the road because of 'wear' is so stupid

Not even gonna touch on how 80/20 tyres are 'useless'
>>
>>17046703
And the state of the brake pads and callipers is fine too?

If nothing works, you can replace the lines, but that's quite expensive.

You can do it with pretty much any modern sport tires really. Don't have to get crazy. Even a cheap set of BT016's will get you there.

I run Battleax S21's on mine but you can hit corners hard and drag knee on a much higher mileage tire if you wanted. You just need to build confidence in the bike and the tire.

Most riders are scared to lean a bike to it's potential due to lack of confidence in the front end.

>>
>>17046715
Its not that they wear, you rip half of the knobs off.

And glad we agree that 80/20 tyres are the most useless shit ever invented, may as well just ride on full road tyres because unless its hard packed dirt with no water in sight an 80/20 won't get you any more grip and you don't even need off road tyres to ride on surfaces like that anyway.

I used to scrape knee on the touge on sport touring tyres.

It's about you, not the bike, almost always is.

I mean it's not like you're losing traction or been on the edge of grip on your current tyres anyway right? why would stickier tyres help other than the placebo effect? you won't use their extra traction.

You specifically said a 100km trip on bitumen, how exactly are the knobs going to rip off?

I've rode 2000kms on a D606 rear tyre with minimal offroad, as I bought the bike secondhand with a set.
I replaced the front one immediately because it was bald. My rear still has quite a lot of tread left.

I'm not really arguing that running knobbies for road is a good idea, rather that having them if you want to use them can warrant the added cost of replacing them more frequently

I ride pic related on fire roads and trails and they are fun to slide around.

I'm no dirt Rossi and don't expect them to get me anywhere a knobby would but for my 90/10 uses they are decent enough. Biggest problem offroad really is the front tracking. The tread, profile, and width of the tire tends to float and slide instead of biting in.

Never really had any trouble with the rear not getting traction, even when climbing, nothing that can't be solved with more momentum.

I went to an offroad park in Lake Arrowhead last weekend and went on the severe difficulty marked trails and couldn't get up a steep rocky climb, mainly an issue with not being able to hold a line with the front while climbing then slipping into a rocky line that killed my momentum. Other than that I didn't have any trouble with the rest of the trail.

Mud is a different story, they slide all over the place. But not much mud in SoCal.

On/offroad tires are cool if you want to fuck around offroad with some semblance of traction and still being able to handle good on road. Obviously if you're going to spend most of your time off road you'll opt for knobbies. But most of the time I'm commuting on this bike so these tires fit the purpose.

The tires that came on your bike are plenty sticky enough to corner hard and get a knee down. Typically new sportbikes come equipped with 90/10 type street/track tires with plenty of grip for hard riding while still having reasonable life. BT016's are and have been default tires for OEMs for years and they are solid dual compound sport tires.

I think your bike came with Battleax S20's which are even better than the BT016's. S20's are what they have been putting on new FZ09's.

S20's are just an earlier generation of the S21's on my bike. I get on fine with them.

Really the problem is you and your confidence in the bike. You don't need race rubber to lean the bike over. You need to get out of your own head and push that inside bar harder.
>>
>>17046921
If his tyres are squared off leaning over further will only get him to crash to be honest.

I was always impressed by the performance of the Ninja 250, but it just isn't in the same league as my R3. The drop-off in engine performance when you leave the 250cc class is pretty steep, and it must be even steeper when you look at sub-250cc bikes. I mean this in the least arrogant way possible.

The consensus on /dbt/ is that most of the value-added comes from the additional low-end torque. I can't speak to the quality of other bikes, but the dominance of the R3 self-perpetuates pretty easily. Knowing that I'm riding the best performing bike for its class is a comforting thought.

I don't ride a dirt bike. Just run those tires because I regularly ride fire roads and roads covered with mud. But I mostly ride on the highway, which is why they last so long.

i've bought once from a dealer. just compare what a shop will give you vs what you cant get used.

c'mon now, not that hard.
>>
>>17047014

The amount of money you save by buying that same bike second hand, especially a dated model like the DRZ will buy you many services if there is something REALLY wrong with it.

If you want a commuter then just make sure the bike runs when you buy it, that's all you're after anyway?

I bought a new bike off a dealership, and got it for less than what a lot of people were asking for used models, 7500 canadian otd for a 2015 fz09.

Im not sure I would buy a used bike at a dealership, but then I also know what Im looking at and what to inspect when shopping used. If you're serious about buying used, just offer someone on a local facebook riding group some beer to help inspect a bike. Someone will likely offer.

Why don't sportbike riders install risers and aftermarket seats more often?

The aggressive riding position isn't that essential to performance. You can always crouch in more, but the bike limits how upright you can be.
>>
>>17047244
But the 08+ R6's are faster and handle better while being lighter.

And then you can literally dump the heavy exhaust for $60 with a straight through header and drop 12 pounds, eliminate all the other emissions/sound shit for free to save more weight, get a retune of the stock ECU for $125 to derestrict it/tune for the exhaust/significantly boost the midrange, and now you have ~115+whp and a much more lively bike at lower rpm.

You can also add a quick shifter for cheap on the stock ECU and you dont have to waste money on Bazzaz/Power commanders to tune them.

Second generation R6's, especially the 08+ bikes, are probably the easiest/cheapest to tune modern 600's.
>>
>>17047327
Because much like harleys guys, sport bike kids do it for looks. You don't need comfort when you only ride for 45 min
>>
>>17047327
Usually price. A good seat and good risers cost about $200-300 each and sportbike riders usually spend all their bundget on that sweet carbon finber Yoshi exhaust that doesnt do anything other than change the way the bike sounds.

Also, bar risers and plush seats dont look cool and dont perpetuate the "cool racer bike rider guy" image that they bought into when they picked up their sportbike.

t.a sportbike rider.
>>
>>17047337
Chinese handlebars and risers are actually decent ($70 pairs usually). The stock ones snap just as easily, but as it goes, just don't crash.
>>
>>17047327

>>
>>17047785
Not that guy, but what's wrong with spending a little dosh on someone you like.
I do it with my friends all the time.
>>

>>
>>17047821

It's an entire paycheck for most youngsters here.
>>
>>17047785
I have disposable income.
And I value her skin more than €1000.
>>
>>17047833
I spent $3k this last december on friends.
I'm sure he's cool with it for someone he thinks deserves it.
>>
>>17047839
Why would you if she doesn't? She's not your wife or daughter.
Would you buy a male friend a suit because you "value his skin" as well? No, you wouldn't.
>>
>>17047847
For a friend I know for that long? I would, not a single doubt about that.

I value good friends over myself and money.
>>
>>17047847
Not that guy, again, but I would and have.
Got my guy friends a nice leather Shift jacket cause he used to ride bitch with me a lot.

>>
>>17047857

You can talk like this only if you don't know what to do with money. Good for you and your friends.
If I was rich I too would buy my friends motorcycles, that's a different matter.

>>17047891
That's being rich.

>>
>>17047904
I already moved back in with parents.
Spending something on the little friends I have isn't something that's going to impact my savings.
>>
>>17047924
What's preventing your friends from buying their own shit? Are they poor and you rich? I can only understand your mentality if this is the case. It's good to be selfless but there must be something I'm missing

First of all, I know she isn't in to me like that. Secondly, she's like a little sister I never had. Lastly, she had a bf.

>>
>>17047977
I gave you the benefit of the doubt before but this is the clearest cut case I've seen of an in denial friend zoning.

none of your defence holds up and in fact incriminates you further.

1/3- both of these reflect her state not yours. ie she doesn't like you but you like her, ie the no-bone-but-but-keep-buying-me-shit-zone

2> like a sister. A female with whom you share a deep connection with but are not interested sexually in due to blood relations. Except your aren't blood relations and you do want to bone her.

also no one just drops a random 3k on people for no reason.

I know I'm friendzoned. Shouldn't I treat her like a friend then? I should quit being friends after being friends for ~15 years, because I found out, at some point years ago, she isn't sexually attracted to me?

>no one just drops a random 3k on people for no reason.
That wasn't me. I'm just thinking about spending about €1000 for a suit, so she can ride safely with me and has some gear when she starts riding herself.

Ya'll need to grow up and grow a pair. Pic is a YZF1000 I lodged under a Mazda 3 series after an ill advised wheelie across a major highway. No injuries, bike was totalled... cute as hell EMT checkin' me out at the scene.

>>

You can pay more attention to the road if you know where to go and get redirected if you do happen to miss the exit.

Voice directions doesn't work for everybody. I for example confuse left and right and have a hard time hearing what people say when it's noisy.

You plan the trip beforehand and write on a piece of paper that you put on the tankbag the sequence of cities you have to pass through so that you can simply follow signs.

If you're too stupid and get lost you check it on the phone or take out the map.

Hi guys, I can't read maps so i am getting a GPS for my bike. It's so much more convenient and easier than a map!

I've also swapped my old bike in for a scooter, the automatic transmission is so much more convenient and easier than a manual bike!

And now i've found a new bull to fuck my wife, it's so much easier and more convenient than fucking my wife every Saturday like we have been doing, it saves me almost 3 minutes every week! this is even easier than just being a premature ejaculatory, which i am by choice becasue it's easier and more convenient.
