Can confirm.
When I was a kid we had a 2000 Chrysler Caravan for maybe 8 or 9 years before the transmission completely crapped out.
I doubt it made it past 170 k.
Whereas my dad's 1997 Honderp Accord made it well past 270 K before the automatic transmission started to be shit.

The engines themselves were pretty straight forward for most cars. Very simple and easy to work on. It was usually the electrical components under the hood or the fuel delivery that would cause problems.

And then you have >>17032690
The Triumph V8 was literally two Dolomite/TR7 engines stuck together. The main bearings didn't fit properly, the timing chain was to long and weak and the cooling system was awful resulting in overheating and blown head gaskets.

An abused/cheap 944 will develop a new problem every week.
Well maintained ones aren't bad though, and they're far from the worst to work on. I'd say a cheap, neglected 928 would be more of an endurance test for the owner.

Germany has high manufacturing standards and laws. Factory workers are paid more in Germany, and then they have to deal with expensive export costs. That get's added on to the final price.

But it's mostly just because they can.
