It's because the driver kept fucking up and going full tilt when the pressure was on and wound up losing finite pedal control, constantly braking too hard, and eventually crashing due to brake fade. If he had just kept his cool he could have beat every-fucking-body on that mountain, and that's what that race is supposed to show Dagumi/the viewer, a better car isn't everything if the driver can't make use of it.
