Or maybe a TE7x whatever you got them as.

Those t motors respond well to modification and also they're a T-series gearbox if you want to swap bellhousings and stick an A-motor in.

I wouldn't know, I've never driven an AW11, they almost don't exist where I live.

Does anybody have any suggestions regarding input enhancement? The car has got enough power for me, it's really fun to drive, but the steering wheel is quite too large and thin for my big hands, and the shifter throw is too long.

I'm looking for a better, but still inconspicuous and period correct steering wheel, maybe something like a junkyard MR2 steering wheel I could get refitted with new leather, but I'm not sure about compatibility, and I can't find much info on this. I'd like to avoid the obvious Momo leather on metal thingy that screams I'M A RACECAR!

I'm also looking for a short throw shifter kit, but I can't find that much information either, especially about quality and how it feels to use it.

Is the SC400 quick / fun to drive? Considering one for a first car because I like the styling
>>
>>17032749
For the wheel, if its legal to remove the airbag, you could get a boss kit and there are a few steering wheels that dont look like complete RACEKAR.
http://www.ae101ownersclub.com/t2305-diy-jdm-momo-steering-wheel-install

For the short shifter you could get your grinder out, cut 2" out of the shifter above the pivot, and then weld it back together, use the 2" bit you cut of the top to lengthen the stick below the pivot, then raise the base to clear it. Im no expert, maybe someone can correct me here. Or shell out for a short shift kit.

Thanks for the answer.

No airbag there, and about the shifter, I don't like damaging stock parts, I like keeping them in case I want/have to revert the car to full stock.

See those speakers I installed yesterday for example, I don't mind bending the lip of a brand new aftermarket speaker to make it fit, but I would never cut into the plastic housing to achieve the same result. I also kept the stock connector so I don't have to cut the car's audio cable.
>>
>>17035216
Best bet for the shifter is to ask around on fourms if they know of any kits, or just grab another shifter from a junkyard and chop that one instead.

>>17040333
Oh snap where do you live? East Coast? That sounds exactly like the one I was looking at, damn
>>
>>17040333
Nope, west coast. I think you're getting a better deal, basically the owner of the car went back to his home country and left his car with his family. Its an 88 gts with 250k+ miles on it. So far what I've learned from my experience with it is that its super easy to work on, but remember at its heart its an 80's cheap fun car, so its gonna have its faults. So far those include:
-completely fucked clutch (replaced it)
-non-functional power windows
-seats designed for ants
-oil leak (maybe similar to what yours is having, but mine is just a small leak)
-coolant leak
But yeah I think you could also negotiate the owner down to a lower price, that's the biggest regret I have about my purchase, I paid the full 700$ asking price

1uz in ae92? Can it be done? Should it be done?

My goal is a v8 corolla, for reasons... I wanted it to be pure toyota, so r154 + 1uz, but off the top of my head, I think an LS swap would be easiest, cheapest, and most effective.

Unless perhaps I were to be encouraged.

Cursory measuring tells me the engine bay will fit the 1uz and MAYBE have room for the radiator, so... It's uphill from here

wew that's expensive for a car I don't wanna dump money into. I think I can get $100 use out of these at least. It doesn't get stressed as much as my EG and is mostly on the highway.

Or I could take stuff from one of the many junkyard Corollas. There's always a ton of them to pick from. Plus Prizms from the domestic section.

Looks like the Corolla is the junkyard king. Bet it'll be wayyyy cheaper to pull suspension from one of those. Roughly 30 bucks for one corner with the spring and everything.

I got a SC400 fairly recently and I'm debating whether to restore the interior via ebay used OEM parts or get corbeau FIA seats and LRB aluminum door cards.

Currently it has a (knockoff?) Corbeau driver's seat that is ripped to shit and the passenger seat is stock but the leather is also ripped to shit. It also has no door panels at all.

All told I expect to spend $2500 on the car (I also need wheels and tires and I'm considering a vinyl wrap).

Thoughts?

I thought I would be able to do nothing this weekend, but nope.

Engine and gearbox oil change are now done.

It's a recent aquisition, and I don't have any recent service record, so I try to get a fresh start on pretty much every regular service item.

I used 75w80 GL4, apparently there's a risk with GL5 oils and brass synchromeshes due to a higher concentration in some aditives (sulfur etc). Anyone knows more about this?

Do you mean to work on? If so yeah, it's harder to work on the engine components as opposed to your average front engined car, and there's certainly a learning curve to it as well that's frustrating (ie taking certain mechanisms off to access what you're looking for). After awhile it just becomes second nature when navigating the engine bay, but it's more awkward, yes.

Speaking about wheels, since I was working on my car today I desided to torque my wheels to spec for the first time, 105Nm, and it felt like nothing, it's kind of worrying. Is it really a good idea on aftermarket wheels, or should I go back to doing it by feel?

damn, drove past an SW20 today (unfortunately was in my accord and not my AW11 since its borked) and damn. I guess I've only seen them in pictures but they always look a lot bigger. Seeing one IRL they look amazingly cool, smaller and fast.

Once I get sick of my AW11 and its shitty engine swap I might go for one. I was gonna look at getting a mark 3 supra but now i'm leaning towards the SW20, both tends towards ~4000 in my area so I'll probably go for the cleanest I can find from the two

I heard that GL-5 oils can damage yellow metal components. That's why I wanted to be careful. Not sure if it's bs or not, but since they still sell GL-4 oils, but not GL-3, I had no reason not to buy it instead of the more expensive GL-5.

And has shortblock problems.

The 2zz version of the celica is already slightly underpowered (At least it has some character with the lift). Why would you buy the even more underpowered version of a "sports" coupe?
>>
>>17072516

why would you buy non awd celica anyway.
If you want a good FF car look at honda, that's all they do.

>>
>>17072535
The celica gts is a good cheap sporty dd shitbox if you can life with the looks.
>>
>>17072585
If you try to build a 1zz without boosting it you're gonna spend thousands for meh results. There's a guy I know with an intermediate NA build and he's only putting down 170whp. If you want to make a 1zz fast your best bet is turboing it at about 10psi on stock internals
>>
>>17072585
There are some decent parts for the 1zz but they're pretty expensive. Cams for example go for $500 and only net around 10-20hp
>>
>>17072671
170whp is plenty.
I've been looking into it myself, 2zz swap can be done sub 2k and it's as bolt is as an engine can be.

I was hoping you could do 1k worth of mods without touching intake or exaust and gain 20-30 hp. I'd be happy with that.
I found lot of people saying sink 5k in engine and you get 10k redline. That sounds like a great project if you have disposable income.
>>
>>17072687

You can't disconnect the front drive. It has a transaxle with a very simple transfer case bolted up to the transmission where the right side C/V shaft would normally be. The AWD on that vehicle is not performance minded at all, and is little more than peace of mind for people who are worried about driving in bad weather.
>>
>>17040292
Yeah, either take the engine out of the top or transmission from the bottom. Easier to do it by removing trans if you're working on a hoist, at home, not so much.
>>
>>17051981

If the service campaign has been done and the lower ball joints are replaced, you are extremely unlikely to have any issues. I've never seen or heard of a lower ball joint failure on a Tundra or Sequoia after the replacement parts were installed. Call a dealership with the VIN and they can tell you in the campaign was performed already or not.

pretty alright, I got pretty lucky today. So I had noticed my brakes were grinding and they were (pics incoming) so I went and got new rear rotors and brakes. installation was whack as fuck cause I had to rent a set of tools to get the piston to compress by turning clockwise. one side was fine but the grinding side turned out to be a seized piston. so out of curiosity I managed to rig a rear caliper off of a 2004 MR2 Spyder and it worked just fine after swapping a mounting bracket.

rear diff fluid, trans fluid.. typical preventative maintenance. I don't live in an emissions restricted area so
I got rid of the catalytic converters (scrap yard payed $140 for the palladium), with the $ I bought some
noname headers and straight piped it to the stock Futaba muffler. Got a fancy intake at a garage sale
and modified it to fit. The owner before me had it tuned with some piggy back AEM setup along with
some injectors and an aeromotive in-tank fuel pump. This summer I'm planning a w58 or R154 swap.

Thanks. Power is decent; right now she's a touch over 220hp and around the same for torques. With the hatch I get an extra 130ish lbs to deal with but its peppy. Not fast by any modern standard, just has a nice pick up and go feel.
Unfortunately no twisties or canyons in my area to carve but I found out its not hard to get the tail out. As for sustaining a slide or drift? Chalk that one up to my inexperience.

In city traffic, the first 0-30 kmh are silent as hell because it goes fully electric.

>now I can reach that bolt
>but I can't bolt in the new one because I can't reach it still
>fuck it, one bolt

I think the only way I was gonna reach that bolt was to drill a big hold into the door. It's fine with just the one bolt, though. Tiny bit of flex but barely noticeable. It's just not worth the frustration. Also I think the driver rear window motor is dead.
>>
>>17089419
Did you try looking it up on how to access the hard bolt?
>>
>>17089473
I watched a video and it was pretty much just blindly reach in there. Not as bad for the front doors which I did manage to do a long time ago but the rear ones are even more cramped. The curve of the door left me no room for my 10mm wrench to move and even my tiny socket wrench was too big with a short socket on it.

I'm not sure Toyota expected anyone to need to replace these. kek

easiest way to make slow car fast (with 2zz, son 1zz plenty a fast for mr2) is to lose weight.
>Lightest weight wheels you can find with most weight near center
>light but grippy tires
>lightened componets like glass/carbon body panels
>gut interior you can do without
>lose the spare
>etc
See how far weight loss takes you then maybe 1-2k worth of mods on engine is enough.
Before you want more horses its always wiser to free up existing horses.
