Mother fucker tried to drive off but when he threw me into a ditch, his truck flew in half way and he dug himself in. He hit me head on, he was drunk as fuck and I had to pull myself out the passenger side window. Cops and paramedics came, I was unable to actually walk cause I had busted ribs I guess from the force of the impact. ive been taking it easy for a few weeks now, ended up getting a lawyer to deal with it all. but it was bad. But I was pretty heartbroken seeing my car like this. Really hurt. loved that fucking thing man.

I'm overly sentimental about my Civic so I know the feeling. Hopefully your lawyer gets you some hefty compensation for everything so you can find another car you like just as much or even more.

I've had more than enough close calls that could have killed me or destroyed my car. Not sure how I haven't lost it yet.

the thing that really got me was my civic actually belonged to my best friend, who passed away in another car wreck a few years ago. So his parents had it sitting in their garage since then. They needed to space so they were thinking about selling it but didnt't want to, and im close with them, and I offered to buy it and did. So it meant a lot to me in more ways than one. I was looking for another cheap car so I didn't have to drive it as a DD but this happened. I think the realization of what happened sunk in a few days later and I just lost it for a few hours. I had never cried that hard.

It's pretty solid. Nothing really goes beyond surface rust in my area. Using zip ties in the mounting holes at the moment but they're a bitch to put back on if I ever need to take the bumper cover off. If I ever need to be towed anywhere it'll be even more helpful to quickly take it off and throw it in the back so it doesn't get wrecked getting onto a tow truck.

Also got the idea of redoing my Mugen replica wheels in silver or white, after I get that curb damage fixed.

Not bad. Now I can use my ramps more often since the bumper won't be a bitch to take off and reinstall.
>>
>>17028563
whats the procedure for installing those?

Might get some to replace the clips in the back since when I got hit one of them snapped and cant easily replace it
>>
>>17028576
Used a 1/4 inch drill bit which perfectly fits inside the support and matches the allen bolt size and just drilled where I wanted it to go. Stuck the bolt in and put the nut on the other side and done. I did the fender one first but I probably should have done the bumper one first to get a tighter fit. This will do the job, though. Could always get a rubber ring that's a smaller diameter to hold the bumper closer to the fender I think.

Though my first job after being a NEET for many years was Family Dollar and I spent 10 consecutive days turning a brand new store from an empty warehouse to an actual store full of shelves and product. That was the most pain I've ever been in. Was literally crawling around at home and staying in bed between shifts. kek

Hi all, haven't been in /hg/ before. Thought I'd say hello and show my shitty little EG I just bought. It's a D15 carby model with no features and will be getting a B18C2 very soon when my donor car is organised. Very keen to build my first honda

Looks pretty good. I like the side skirts. Does it really have a carb? I never knew they had carb'd models.
>>
>>17028823
Thanks, it's not too bad cosmetically. First thing I did was take the skirts off, haha. And yeah, it's really carbed, they had a 1.3 and a 1.5 carb model here in Australia.
>>
>>17028829
Huh. Pretty neat. They were all fuel injected in the US. Looks to be in great shape aside from the front bumper but those are generally fragile as fuck. Making me want to get clear corner lights again but they're a pain to find for a reasonable price over here.
>>
>>17028834
It's had a front end hit (and was repaired) at some point and the headlights and bumper are all a bit misaligned. Hopefully I can line everything up a bit better. Can't complain for the 600 bucks I paid though
>>
>>17028847
That's a hell of a deal. A non running shell goes for more than that in my area. Paid $1300 for mine and the body is beat up all over the place. Runs great though and that's all I want from it as a daily driver.
>>
>>17028829
How are you planning on converting it to EFI?
>>
>>17028857
I don't think they tend to be quite as expensive here, but yeah it wasn't bad. Though the car is pretty fucked though, it drives like crap, makes all sorts of awful noises, muffler is all rusted out, battery needs replacing. No problem for me however, I am purchasing a complete Integra and I will swap all of the running gear. Going to have it stripped out for minimum weight and maximum fun and go-kartiness. Will be mad fun
>>
>>17028867
I will have a complete B18C Integra to swap everything out of
>>
>>17028877
Love that about them. Best thing about the Integra is that it just about everything from them fits in the lighter EG. Mine ran like crap too aside from the engine. Feels great after a suspension overhaul. Bushings change everything.
>>
>>17028884
I love it too. It will be first venture into engine swapping so I feel like it's a good place to start - it's like automotive Lego. The engine in mine sounds perfectly healthy and it actually isn't too lethargic in the little car. But it's woeful to drive, awful bearing noise with any steering input, totally bald tyres... it's staying at home until I get this swap done.
>>
>>17028884
Mine has 340 thousands kilometers on it, the donor car has 200 and has been maintained meticulously, apparently. I'll just bolt the whole subframes up, it will be a very complete swap
>>
>>17028892
Sweet. Would love to see updates on it as it goes on and I'm sure others here would too. I'd like to swap mine eventually but only when my D16 is ready to kick the bucket. It's been strong for the almost two years I've owned it and it's even better with a fresh timing belt and head gasket I had put in last November. Couldn't ask for a better daily.
>>
>>17028902
I've thought about doing a build log on a forum, but I will likely update here too. Which Honda forum would you suggest? I've only used Honda-tech thus far

And yeah, no point pulling a perfectly fine motor out of your daily. I already have a daily (well it's not a very practical one, but it's reliable) so I'm just going to go nuts making this Civic a fun weekender
>>
>>17028912
Not too familiar with forums. I'm too attached to this format and don't really use them aside from Google search links to figure out issues I have. Though a build log will better immortalize it for anyone to see for years. Anything here gets archived over time.
>>
>>17028919
Haha fair enough.
>>
>>17028879
How are you planning on getting fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel rail?
>>
>>17024498
So I did my first actual "race" (I guess?) against one of my coworkers. He's got a stock Civic and I've got my stock Integra GSR.
Any tips on how I can not make my car feel like it's trying to buck me out of my seat during my shift to second gear? It happens often when I actually get on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeAUXUAeA_s&feature=youtu.be
>>
>>17028977
Don't sidestep the clutch when you change gear.
Pull your foot out towards you
>>
>>17028977
Also after listening to the video again it sounds like you're shifting pretty slowly. big change in rpm can make for shitty feel
>>
>>17028977
Pretty gud. I need to do some pulls in my car when I hook my vtec up. I could have done that when I did my bumper support a few hours ago but I'm retarded and forgot to. My second gear shift is pretty smooth but I can't explain why. kek
>>
>>17028984
I guess I'll have to be more aware of it, when I think about it I'm often moving too fast to really consider if I'm moving my foot to the side or up. How were the rest of the shifts? I know the launch was shitty because I wasn't really sure how to do it.
>>
>>17028996
The other shifts looked good to me but this is coming from an amateur.
>>
>>17028989
any tips for shifting faster? I honestly thought I was doing pretty good, and after I pulled ahead so far in second gear I didn't bother to redline it, just shifted when it sounded right.
>>17029006
Could be worse lol, I watched a V6 accord stall his car after revving to the moon a few days ago. Really wish I would've bothered to pull it off my dashcam.
>>
>>17028925

>>17029026
kek I'd imagine it would be really hard to stall one of those. I drove a 350Z a few times and it seems impossible to stall. Low torque 4 cylinders need a more precise touch to drive properly I think.

When my buddy gets his car on the road I wanna try racing him. I know I'll lose but I wanna see the difference between our D16s. I know before the restoration he could beat a lot of local B swapped cars and keep up with the ones he couldn't beat.
>>
>>17029026
Your best bet is to practice and make sure you are using proper hand positioning when you shift. Especially if you are racing. Always pull second towards your body, always go straight up gently for third, and always make sure to rotate your hand so your palm is on the left side of the knob when you shift to fourth.

As far as launching goes, you're going to have to experiment. You want to be at the limit of what the tire can give you, so when done properly it'll only squeal a little bit. It can be difficult to find the right RPM and sustain it, but if you can, rev to the RPM you want and dump the clutch. This is why people like 2 step, it makes life easier.

Here's a video of me driving a car with the same motor and tranny as yours.

First launch my wheels werent straight, so youll see my hands correct the wheel right away. Second launch is on gravel so I don't rev it as high. But listen to how it sounds when I shift. It's smooth and it's quick enough that you can see the weight of the car shift from the shift. (Watch the hood bob up and down in between gears as the weight comes to the front)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imlMVVUgNeY
>>
>>17029038
There's a 90% chance the carbed car has a mechanical fuel pump. If you pull the motor then you no longer have a fuel pump. You'll need to either add one inline or cut the gas tank and add one. (Youll need to weld)
>>
>>17029068
Best bet is to pop up the rear seat and see what's inside. Based Honda for making fuel pumps easy to access.
>>
>>17029068
I also read that the DC2's fuel tank bolts right up. Solves that issue.
>>
>>17029076
If it does that's amazing. Make sure to do that
>>
>>17029080
I'll stripping the Integra and installing everything I can!
>>
>>17029056
I definitely have a tendency to slam third.. What's the idea behind the palm on the left during the 4th shift?
>>
>>17029092
so you dont shift into 2nd on accident and blow up the motor
>>
>>17029075
this is a moot point now but mechanical fuel pumps sit on the cam. you can see it if you pop the hood
>>
>>17029099
I don't really understand because it''s never happened to me but I kind of do because it's not like I've been around a long time. And I just mean in general, I've never messed a 4th gear shift up, it's always been third.
>>
>>17029099
I think I may have been lucky so far or I've just gotten good at it but I've only misshifted once hitting third instead of fifth and my hand position usually doesn't change. I might try it anyway though to see how it feels.

>>17029106
Neat. Don't know a damn thing about carb'd engines.
>>
>>17029112
If you are racing you might try to shift quickly into fourth and not realize you're pulling towards your body. Suddenly going 8k in 3rd gear to 11k in 2nd gear.

Goodbye valves

Look up "money shift" on youtube

I feel like driving RHD cars this doesn't happen nearly so often
>>
>>17029126
It happens basically never

I think I said this like 3 threads ago. One of the many advantages of RHD
>>
>>17029128
RHD superiority confirmed. What other advantages are there?
>>
>>17029128
The guy I bought my shift knob from had a RHD converted EG hatch. It was pretty sweet but he traded it for an S2000.
>>
>>17029131
Most tracks are clockwise
When honda converts to LHD they typically don't change the E brake location. I don't like having it so close to me
Steering with dominant arm shifting with submissive arm
It's JDM yo
>>
>>17029134
I mean it's a little silly to RHD swap a car in a LHD country though
>>
>>17029143
Both tracks in my state are counter-clockwise, haha. And the handbrake is in the centre on my EG, but I know the Miata for example has the hand brake on the same side for both models.

Yeah and it seems like a ton of work, too. I think it would help with the weight balance though since the engine sits mostly on the left side.

I thought it was cooler than the S2000 he traded for honestly. Not as valuable of course.

Energy Suspension. It's fairly quiet and was pretty loud with the old stuff. I hear Prothane is good too but they're pretty much the same thing. I think they make the speeds low just so they can collect more revenue.

What's weird is that this road here has a 40mph speed limit and I consider it far more dangerous compared to the one they got me on. It's much busier in comparison. I was the only car on my side of the road so I stood out to the cop. I swear the car next to him in the oncoming lane was going a similar speed but I can only assume the radar he was running doesn't scan cars he's driving next to.

Right now the whole thing is primered so I'm just "patching" spots where rock chips and whatnot have exposed metal and/or the old paint to keep the rust at bay. It looks like hell.

That's unsettling, my grandmothers second husband was really autistic and a retired auto mech, yet he's the reason the CM5 100% is mechanically sound, it's weird how they can be really off yet on it when it comes to certain things.
>>
>>17040568
Yeah I don't know how he does it. I rode with him to the auto parts store when I did some work on his Nissan Frontier and it was pretty sketchy. He did hit the mailbox of a neighbor to a customer once so now that customer specifically asks that we don't send him anymore because he scares her. kek

He's actually on his second Frontier. First one got totalled I think. Current one he got nearly brand new then the front end got fucked up so he had it fixed like new. I don't even think he's had it a year and it sounds like ass already. All four tires are curb rashed to death, too.

I think there's good and bad autism. My co-worker has mostly bad autism. Plus he stutters like crazy and can't even answer phones.

They also claim it could be heredity but it's complicated how it gets passed down. I think it's the mother's pregnancy condition.
