Just another M20, the PO ran it without a working thermostat and blew the head gasket and likely damaged the head. I have access to a lower mileage engine that I know is good so instead of trying to fix this one I'm just swapping it.

The BMW i8 has one of the best looking front ends of any modern car, especially pretty in person.
Too bad it looks terrible from the rear, those taillights are hideous.

I drove an i3 last week. I really liked it. They are pretty affordable now, and EVs have relatively few fluids and moving parts, so I don't think it'd cost much to run. Anyone else looking at these?

Do your own research. Buying a new bike as your first is short sighted. BMW is over priced (so is KTM).

You aren't going to keep any of these baby bikes for more than two seasons so you'll get hit HARD on depreciation.

Not caring about the cost vs utility of a purchase is childish and short sighted.

The RC390 and 390 Duke look WAY better than the G310.

The KTM should be cheaper since you can buy used. If you're a homo and insist on buying new because you're a dumb goyim and need to use credit, then the BMW is less.

The Ninja 300 is a better option for a disposable bike that you won't keep for very long.

Do your own research since you don't care what the smart choice is since you made up our mind already.

Anything you find for 7-8k will need a ton of work, believe me. Not that it's hard or expensive to work on these, but yeah.
Find one with a clean body and interior, parts can be replaced.
But yeah mine was stock aside from SSR wheels, H&R coils, & eibach sways. Not so much the case anymore lol.

>>17024033
It pokes a lot already lol
>>
>>17024071
I'm more concerned with the body and paint condition. The mechanics are whatever I can fix all that. Finding a good interior is the hardest I'm sure, the interiors in these things fall apart if not meticulously cared for. Is yours black?

I don't like the stretch, but the rest of your car is real nice.

Yeah mine is black, but I'm going Modena soon here. The interior bits are easy to fix. Make sure the window seals and exterior big window molding are in good shape, otherwise offer less as they are fairly expensive and usually backordered. Then again not sure if you're as picky as I am or have the intention to restore.

Meh, 225s on 8.5 & 245 on 9s. You really can't fit much meat under these cars and keep it aesthetic.

Favorite Beamers

>2002
>3.0 csl
>e46 M3 (laguna seca blue). The e46, in general, was solid.
>e39 m5
>M2

Honorable mentions:

I like the 850, even though it sucks. Interesting experiment in BMW history.

I have a thing for the E38. That's exactly how a German built full size sedan should be.

The E36 m3 just looks so badass.

Dislikes

How the new 3 series, 5, and 7, all look too much alike besides the size.

The x suv's are pointless. Don't have the capabilities or style of their competitors.

I don't get the 6 series coupe. It's a 5 with less room. I do like the convertibles though.
>>
>>17023080
In that case, enjoy!

As your preferences change you'll likely want to experience a variety of bikes, but that's no reason not to take advantage of having money for new ones. Buy quality riding gear too. You'll be glad you did.

Lmfao that dealer was a moron, I'm in the DC area and zhps are about the same, normal 330s 4-6k. Out of curiosity, how has maintenance been? I should be able to do basically all my own maintenance so I'm not super worried about it, but I've heard a lot of conflicting reports on e46 reliability so I'm interested in getting another opinion.

The 328xi, contrary to popular belief, is in fact an off-road rallying car. Don't be afraid to drive it as such. Gravel, dirt, rocks you name it.
Some protips:
Activate stepotronic
Deactivate traction control
Just whip it around and the car does the work for you.

A good solid weekend if you have everything you need, a basic idea and a neat spacious work area.
I lack all three of those things but I reckon I'd be able to do it over two weekends if I managed the wiring over the week after work. Still need a fair few things before I can go much further.

why have E36 M3's jumped up so much in price lately? And also where are they at?

If the engine harness is still plugged into the motor that's being swapped in, that eliminates a lot of effort.
Get a workshop manual and don't be afraid to cross-check everything you're doing on a forum.
Worth noting what sort of gearbox you have, if it's a manual I'd imagine it'd be a lowly Getrag 240, which is worth upgrading to a 260.

Been driving a 2010 128i (e82) for the past 8 years. Never really been a car guy so it's an automatic and stock. Just hit 100k km tonight.

Never see anyone talk about them. How come? Are they bad?

As I said I've never been a car guy. But as of recently I've been really interested in shit boxes and car culture. Really want to learn manual and more about cars (parts, how to basic maintenance, etc). So I can buy something with 80-100k km and not have to spend a ton of money on keeping it running.
>>
>>17034960
>How come? Are they bad?
There's nothing wrong with a 1 series at all. They only made 1 generation for Americans before it was updated to the 2 series, so they aren't as common as the 3 or 5
>>
I am looking for a 3-series wagon, most likely something 2006-2010. At first I was content to go for a 320d touring, but then I realised I can afford a 325xi, which would probably be a lot more fun while not sounding like a tractor.

How are those petrol engines with regards to reliability? Will they break down on me, is that why I can afford these cars?
>>
>>17035416
>2006-2010
that's E90 territory, some of the most reliable motors BMW built. There are a few exceptions you should read about elsewhere.
Go for patrician rear wheel drive. Xdrive is just more shit to break and kills the fun.
