I just got some 255/40/18 Pilot Super Sports for my RX-8.

Wonderful tires.

I still feel surprised when I go through a curve at a speed that feels too fast without sliding off of the road.
>>
Nice thread.

I need tire suggestions. Buying an NA8 Miat tomorrow and it needs tires. I'm in Seattle so they can be more summer oriented than all season. But they need to be good in the wet.

I don't plan on autocross or tracking it. Just spirited back road driving / dailying.

I don't know what my budget should be. They shouldn't be too expensive ideally.

Thanks lads.

I went from stock Pirelli P-Zeros which lasted a bit less than a year to Continental ExtremeContact DWS. They're nice tires. Almost the same grip as the pirellis, a bit less, but they're wearing way better and are more good against rain.

>ugh you're the worst poster on the board because you say the tires I bought are bad

I maintain vehicles of which many are equipped with PSS from the factory. I see how they wear, how often they fail, know how they drive, and can compare them to other competitors to a degree no other poster in this thread possibly can, as their sample size is either one or zero. I have no reason to say anything good or bad about any tires. They are not good tires for the money, period. Sorry for the upsetting news. Next time you can make the right move and grab some Conti Extremecontact DWs next time now that you know.

Curb rash won't blow out the bead like that, I've seen curb rash so bad it's ground to the point where a chunk of the rim falls off and the tire is fine. Bubbles like that are from impacts, which the PSS can't deal with very well.

Audi S3 - Bridgestone RE003s which grip really well and allow what is a fairly competent FWD car to handle pretty well.
GC8 WRX - Pirelli DragonSports, good, hard wearing every day tire with a bit more grip than your average Dunlop/continental/Pirelli P7 that when combined with an 1100kg AWD car makes for a pretty fun drive

Same. They were cheap, and they're wearing fine for how aggressively I drive, but the traction is just average at best. Going for Pilot Sport A/S3+ or whatever the newest iteration is when these wear out.

I had summer tires once, totally retarded unless you drive on a track, rock hard below 50f handled like a boat. And those were well rated. High performance all seasons are pretty fucking great, and anyone who says they're only "acceptable" in any one season is mentally challenged or some old fuck who thinks tires are the same today as 30 years ago.
>>
>>17020050

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

>What tires you guys running?
I'm fairly happy with the Continental ProContact (all season). They corner very well on sharp right turns without any slipping at 15 MPH and that's pretty fast for a right turn. They also do left turns at a faster speed without slipping but of course that arc is larger. Importantly, they have acceptably low road noise. They work well on wet surfaces since they continue gripping and don't lose traction like those all summer tires.

The latest consumer reports annual auto issue has nice practical reviews for their selection of top tires in each major category. The Pirelli P Zero all is rated by them to be best in road noise for its category so I will try that as my next tire.

I like consumer reports tire comparison tests because they aren't from different consumers with different cars using different rims and suspensions on different roads and different temperatures and different climates. Consumer Reports eliminates the differences in order to provide a better comparison of test results. So if you are looking for your next tires soon, give that annual auto issue's tire review a look over.

BFG Sport comp 2

Love the grip and dry performance, dislike the road noise rough ride. Although they were 235/35/18 so they were very thin which didn't help noise or ride.

Overall was quite happy with them, came on a set of wheels I bought and I would consider them again. I knew what I as getting into as far as ride and noise but it was survivable though, was worth it for the grip. Surprisingly good treadwear, and wet weather performance

I have Pirelli P-Zeros on my Mustang. Honestly they're good, but the treadlife is bad. I might try out some Nitto NT555G2's when I replace because my front tires are bald and my rear are likely soon to follow. I'd buy the newest Michelin super sports but holy cow that's expensive.

Has anyone tried the Nittos? I'm unsure whether to switch

I have enkeis and indy 500 wide ovals. $110 for wheels ea $62 for tires each. Feel like I won th lottery. Such a cheap and amazing set. Was about to buy Some BBS SR and RE-71 and honestly I think I came out ahead for like half the price lol. Wish I could have got the enkei and some cheap RE-71R. At $62 a pop wide ovals are too good to pass up as a general use tire.

I have 15x6.5 wheels and I'm looking for either 195/55R15 or 205/50R15 tires and I'm not looking to spend a ton of money but I still want somewhat quality tires.
I live in a climate where it doesn't snow at all or even get cold but it does rain a lot in the summer. Looking to spend like $80-100 per tire.
Any suggestions?

Question: why are tires so expensive in America?
>>
>>17036808
>Question: why are tires so expensive in America?
They aren't all that expensive when one considers the longevity of normal passenger tires. The expense occurs for the non-normal tires such as MPSS or other tires often used for amateur track and autocross sports.

Really expensive things in america are where "open market" competition doesn't occur such as medical and lawyers. They aren't allowed to advertise or have price competition. Unlike tires and car servicing, that non-competition in the USA also harms the rest of the world. That's because doctors in other parts of the world often immigrate to the USA in order to get much higher pay due to price competition being illegal.

You should see how tire prices would be expensive if the marketplace was performed just like lawyers and medical services are today.

Fallen Azenis RT615K+. Can't get near their limits on public roads without risking a reckless charge. Much better than I expected in the wet, too. Gotta get some tarck time.
>>
>>17019662

I had these, read the reviews: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Event/WL905.htm

They were absolutely appalling, so many close calls in the wet, ABS kicking in all the time.

Had to replace them with Continental Premium Contact 2 when my wife's son was born. The difference was amazing. Its probably shaved 20-40 meters off the stopping distance in the wet at 70mph.

Do not skimp on cheap tyres. its not worth dying over saving a few bucks.

I just got all new tires all around stock was supposed to be 225 50 but I got 225 55 because they were cheaper and they said it wouldn't be a problem... It seems like I can hear them rubbing when I make wide turns though. I had a friend look at them said they weren't connecting but still. Some weird sound.

Also since I got them the gas pedal seems heavier any reason why that would be?

so it's the same width, but the 50 sidewall ratio is now 55. so you have more flex and you might be just a tiny bit higher up feeling. if you got new tires you're probably used to whatever old ones you had and maybe they're less grippy
>>
>>17019741
If you can't put a 200hp car sideways on anything short of semi slicks you should probably just stop driving
>>
>>17039321
Thanks for the info. I think I understand the wheel sizes now. So my new tires are a full inch taller it seems. What should I do? Should I ask the place I got em at if I can get different ones or something. That doesn't seem like a likely thing they would do... How would I go about testing if they are rubbing on anything while taking turns Looks like maybe they rub on the spring thing. Also I read that bigger tires like this can mess up ABS and the speepdometer and odometer readings is this true? The car had 225 50 in the front and 225 55 in the back when I got it which I drove on for months. I am ignorant about cars and tires. Learning alot though but was unaware the sizes did not match.

The tires that protect the rims are typically those that have soft sidewalls that balloon outwards. When the tire gets close to the curb, that part of the tire touches the curb first, thus giving the driver feedback that s/he has touched the curb. Low profile tires can't do that since there is not much sidewall to them to balloon outwards.

P-Zeroes are honestly a solid summer tire. I have 435HP to the rear, and I drive ALOT(travel alot). They aren't bad tires by any stretch. From what I've read in the forums, anybody who bought the GT for fun with the Pzeroes goes through them quickly. My front tires have lasted about a year and a half before the tread was really bad. I've replaced my rears at least twice now, and soon to have another replacement in about a month. I've had the car almost two years.

They are grippy though.

Check the forums for treadlife

should tell your speedo differences. usually with a small difference like that i think you'll be like maybe 1-3 mph off tops
Doubt the abs will have a problem. you could probably complain at the place you got them but i don't really see the point. if you don't track the car then it's mostly a non issue

I bet dealers selling used cars turn tires around if they have cracks on one side but not the other. It's not like people inspect the inner side of tires before they buy the car.

Im gonna assume your talking about the sidewalls and not the width, the wheels are 19" with a 30 AR, could have probably gone for a 35 or 40 if I went with 18" wheels, but it lets me keep my car that little bit higher while still closing the gap between the arches.
>wheels are offset too much
Its +43 offset in the rears, might be the angle on that picture but they sit almost flush with the guards with no poke at all
