Ok, so I'm going to be heading to grad school come fall. I couldn't really work (pre-health with 18 credit semesters, needed good grades etc.) and since I did really well on my admissions exam my parents decided they could help chip in and get me a car.

I've driven a manual before (learned on an 80's Lada, yes I'm amerifat don't ask how) and although it's been like 5 years, I still remember all the basics and it's mostly in muscle memory anyway.

I live in Brooklyn, ny and the school is in Albany, so thats a good ~400 mile drive, and I'll be doing it decently often, so I'm guessing I'll need a lowish mileage car.
Nothing in the sticky is around my area sadly so I need some help.

Is it even possible to get a used car around 7-8k that'll handle such long highway trips, and is available in manual?
FR is preferred of course, but if it handles well I wouldn't be opposed to a FF.
Miatas in NY are pretty expensive sadly, and they're usually riced out with super high mileage. Also I'll need something with a decent boot since I'll have like 2 suitcases. Pls help

Here's the only si near me, looks ok but very over budget.
If even possible I'd like to keep this around 4k (my own money)

Christ. That one is fairly low mileage and unmodified in any substantial way though. But it's a coupe so storage space isn't as good as the sedan's. Still, worth looking out for one. I do a 100 mile commute every day in my 08 LX. Good for hauling a bunch of shit and up to five passenger faggots too.

For 4k RWD manuals in your area, your options are pretty shit right now: https://newyork.craigslist.org/search/brk/cto?max_price=4000&auto_drivetrain=2&auto_transmission=1

Just a bunch of BMW that are priced questionably low and 944s, a car you definitely don't want as a student. Those Mustangs might be ok, but I don't know enough about them personally.

If this V6 Accord didn't have paint fade and a lack of information, it would be worth it: https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/cto/6075922507.html

Goddamn, every car has horrible paint fade out there: https://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/6067508945.html

This looks pretty good as well. Might be worth a trip to queens

Yeah with almost all of the Honda posts there is very little information, which leads me to believe that these idiots have done little to no maintenance on the cars.
Like for all of those 100k+ cars I'm probably gonna need a new clutch after a few months of regular driving (plus I'm probably gonna be rough on the clutch while I'm relearning)

Drive down south and buy a car then drive it back. Anything you buy up there will be rusted to shit.

I-I was trying to say car in weebspeak.
>>17019131
Most of those have way over 100k miles though, I would be very worried about reliability. It looks like 4k was a lofty goal.
>>17019119
That is exactly what I would do...If I had a car to drive down with. NE is the worst region for cars in general, especially since most people here lease their shitboxes and think it's the smart thing to do.
Fuck driving in NYC overall
