Why are trucks so fucking expensive?
>>
>>17013802
Because they're practically luxury SUVs at this point.
>>
>>17013814
Pretty much this.
>>
>>17013814
pretty much this.
Remember all those big American luxury barges that didn't survive the 80s?
Well the people who would buy those now buy trucks.

Google says that base Silverados are 27k. That's not too bad. F150s are about the same, too. Order a base model if you want a cheap new pickup. Or if you're willing to go lower, the GMC Canyon starts at 20k.
>>
>>17013842
>and goyim knows it
You can't even meme correctly, retard. Goyim are the non-jews.
>>
Nobody's forcing you to get the $70k longkingranchmonsterxxx edition. You don't need fucking $800 floormats or the $1500 interior protection package (2 cans of scotch guard) You can get a pretty decent loaded model for $40k which is the same as a nice sedan or a basic crossover. Or if you don't need 4x4 you can get a base model for under 30k. They're not expensive when you consider how much vehicle you get eg. The big engine, 4x4 system big wheels and tires, etc.
>>
>>17013850
Shit, I an XLT with the "luxury" trim, 5.0L V8, heated seats, etc for $28k. Lariats weren't too much more at the time either.

They're not all too expensive assuming you're a jew and wait until the end of a model year to buy one.
>>
No fucking clue

Honestly the retired construction workers who usually buy these would be better off with an Escalade or a navigator

Why do you drive a "sports car" when you drive it on the roads 99% of the time like a normal car? You must be compensating right?

Trucks are comfy, aren't terrible on gas anymore and are pretty much the same size as most crossovers or even cars now days.
>>
>>17013900
>pretty much the same size as most crossovers or even cars now days
If you're blind on both eyes. The fattest SUVs may be approaching truck widths, but even then they're missing several feet in length, and even then actual cars will still be half a foot narrower.

A Tesla model S has a 196'' wheelbase
A F150 has a 164'' wheelbase
The Tesla is probably wider too.
>>
I have 2016 XLT. One a few truck I've have/had.

I have house on a few acres with a zero turn, walk behind, 16' tandem axle trailer, and a camper. It was a no brainer for me. I also have a older Camry that I can tool around in but I never drive it. I prefer the truck but I live out of the city a ways so it's not like I have to park it downtown.

I'm actually looking for a 1 ton with a flat bed. I've had my eye on an older ford tractor that would be pushing it to try and tow with my F150 but a 1 ton with a gooseneck trailer should be no problem.

Also the Model S is already a large sedan. Most cars are yet another good bit smaller.

The last time I had to get something truck sized (it was a van) down the driveway by the house I had to fold in the mirrors and get help from a spotter, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten it into the garage.

Also I can just buy a fucking trailer and get more cargo space than in a truck without having to haul it around with me EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY like a truck bed.
>>
>>17014036

It's your fault you live somewhere depressing like that pic. In the developed world we don't use 1000 year old horse trails so we don't have size issues.

Trailers are a fucking pain in the ass and cars aren't designed for towing here.

That picture is so fucking depressing, It looks like a kids toy setup.
>>
>>17014069

Also the same cars that aren't rated for towing in the US are rated for towing in Europe. That's how terrible you stupid cuntbags are with trailers. Not even your redneck government is trusting you with them.
>>
>>17013864

$40k is a lot to spend on a truck. Even base models are typically mid to high 20s. That's way too much
>>
>>17014036
>>17014124

What is it with Europeans wanting to tow with the lightest smallest vehicles possible? A heavier vehicle with a longer wheelbase it going to be a superior tow vehicle.
>>
>>17013802

We can handle trailers just fine. But why use them if we don't have to? You don't need to be an engineer to know why towing with a fwd sedan is a bad idea. We also have hills and 100x the distances to cover in North America.

>>17014123
27k on an not even 200hp brz or 27k on a big, comfy and more useful vehicle...Hmm tough call.

>>17014128
Your never going to get a brand new truck for $20k. Wake the fuck up. If $5k-10k is a dealbreaker for you then you shouldn't be looking at a truck because you likely won't be able to afford the gas either.

Just hook me up with a single cab truck or "extended" cab, nice comfy yet simple interior like pic related, lot of bed room so I can store and haul shit and that would suffice for me.

I don't need all the extra bullshit.
>>
The same reason pretty much anything happens: because people are dumb enough to pay for it
>>
>>17014138
Neither of those loads come anywhere near the weight of the vehicle, and those cars are much nicer to drive when not towing ie in 99.9% of their use.
>>
>>17014214
>he has never ridden in a new fullsize pick up

They ride very well desu.
>>
>>17014184
200 pounds of tongue weight is like putting 200 pounds in the trunk, and no car is going to violenty veer off course from a lack of traction at the front wheels because of 200 pounds in the trunk. All this small tow vehicle paranoia is highly exaggerated, it's almost as if Americans are brainwashed by Detroit into thinking that only trucks can tow.

It's because you faggots don't have any hills and traffic moves slow as fuck because 70hp diesels. There's more to towing than getting something rolling on flat ground.
>>
>>17014245
Half the US aren't any hillier than most of Europe, and I'm allowed to tow at 62 mph which is very nearly the speed limit in half the US, and towing at 75 mph will only cost me 30 bucks in fines.

>>
>>17013802
They're not. Midsize trucks are artificially inflated because so many idiots want them. A 20 year old Tacoma with half a million miles in shit condition is like 10k minimum because bros are boner obsessed.

I went looking at a 1998 dodge Dakota, yesterday.

What I found was a C-channel frame that had too much rust for me not to walk away from it.

Similarly with the 1993 chebby c/k Silverado a couple days earlier. Found too much rust on the frame and it too had c-channels.

The whole "only Toyotas have C-channel frames and they rust" meme is a bit overplayed.

I don't even live anywhere where they salt the roads. And the only truly rotten vehicles I have seen are USDM vehicles

Because we actually have to take a few extra lessons and another license exam to tow trailers this large, meaning we actually know what the hell we're doing and aren't authorized to pilot 26,000 lbs tow combinations after driving a Ford Focus around the block for the exam.

You can get a brand new Nissan Patrol 4.8 for $32000 USD in the gulf states or a second hand one from Australia for as low as $5000 USD, even with import costs and the paper work it's still a fraction of the cost than buying a 4x4 from the U.S that doesn't even half the performance of a Patrol.

Feelsgoodman, first new vehicle purchase. I'm getting a trailer to live in because I'm an apprentice lineman (which means I travel fucking everywhere all the time for work) and I have 2 motorcycles so I figured a big comfy truck that can haul a decent camper and put shit in the bed is a good choice for me

Honestly I feel like Toyota is not as reliable as 90s. But let's take look at tundra.
Dodge has best ride right now with air suspension shit is comfy af.
Fords ecoboost is really nice in f150, 2.7 or 3.5 engines are strong and both are $600 tune away from 100more torque.
Chevy got that "fuck out of my way" face with nice ls motor.

Now tundra... bro test drive all of them, Tundra has nothing that stands out, everything is just whatever.

The fuel doesn't cost enough to matter when I do daily it, and in my travels I constantly transport parts, motorcycles, etc. Not bothering with a daily car tips the balance further in favor of my truck. My trucks are old reliable shitboxes. I'm a mechanic. There's zero disadvantage over a car for me.

The reason Europeans use sedans to tow things is because fuel is much more expensive relative to America and they live in countries the size of US states and have roads designed for horses.

But I'm also surprised, greatly, by the increase in Pickup Trucks. I bought a 17 Tundra Limited for 42k. Thats what I offered, that's what I was going to pay with a trade in on a 15 4Runner Limited with 23.5k miles.

Do I need a pick up truck, no... But for my line of work and some of my activities, yes. Also standing 6'6'' doesn't help either, I don't fit in small cars.

When my Dad bought it new, he didn't get anything Fancy. It's just a 4 speed automatic. It would have been nice to have manual, but the truck was basically given to me. I'm not complaining one bit.

It gets the job done. Went a lot of miles pulling our trailer and out boat. It's a workhorse that's for sure.

I'm more bummed he didn't get 4WD. But he got exactly what he needed at the time.

mine got the 4 speed manual and the 318 its a dog but its 4x4 and in decent shape so i plan on tossing a newer magnum 5.9 in it later.
cheaper to keep fixing up old trucks than it is to buy anything reasonably new now
if you opt to keep it and start fixing it up you have a great truck for it since the 2wd parts are so readily available and being an auto simplifies powertrain swaps over a 4x4 manual
>>
>>17023825
318? Oh lord no. It's a 5.9L Cummins Turbo.

That motor isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I've had people wanting to buy the truck just for the motor.

But yeah, I'll probably keep it as is. Mechanically the truck is Solid. Need some front end work and the drum on the driver's side took a shit and was fixed. The motor runs great, the transmission is near pristine. I probably could use a new alternator. The starter is new.

It's the electrical in the cab that's starting to take a shit. It also suffers from the Chrysler paint issue. So it's peeling like crazy. It needs a new paint job.

But that truck is staying in my family at least through me. I know it will last if I take care of it. Which I do.

More interior room for the bench seat and shit. If that triggers you, look up floor mounted headlight switches.
Why do you put the fucking horn on a stalk? What the hell is wrong with you people?
>>
>>17024515
Where else would you put the parking brake on that truck, in the middle of the bench seat?
>>
>>17024535
What? I've never seen a vehicle that didn't have the horn on the wheel.
>>

Oh my GOD are you the faggot that told me to store your trailer by hoisting it up in your garage or flipping it on its side?

Fucking kys
>>
It's a bubble. But don't worry: demand for trucks is going to crater because of picrelated, so it's an issue that will solve itself.

You have to pull a little stock to operate the horn in a lot of British and European vehicles.

Are the 1500s good trucks? I want a 4x4 V8 with an extended cab and the 2006s don't seem too huge or terrible, but I know nothing of trucks.

It'll be used for track towing and general shit around the house like dump runs
>>
>>17014036
>that tiny bucket

What is that going to be used for, a flower bed?
>>
>>17025177
Big buckets have their place. Small buckets have their place. For example when you wanna bury telephone lines from the street to your house without turning half your property into a pit mine.
>>
>>17014432
Pretty sure you can still get Tacomas with a single cab, Nissan Frontiers, and Ford Rangers as well. I could be wrong.

There are some massive single cabs like Tundras and Dodges but they're horrible looking and are always lowered and riced the fuck out.
>>
>>17024654
If you get one make sure it has had the brake lines replaced.

They rot on the chevys bad. Uncoated steel thanks to GM and their engineering

Napa has full ore bent kits of stainless for ~$100 tho so it's not bad. Just a time consuming job. Also get the 5.3 in the 1500 or a heavy half with the 6.0 or a 2500 with a 6.0. The 4.8 is lacking to me. Mines aging.

Also the exhaust manifold bolt heads break off. Warping just pops them off. It's not hard to fix, but you might get an exhaust leak. Thats on all the vortecs
>>
>>17025333
Lacking in what? Too weak to pull a light trailer? Don't care about speed too much for my truck, exhaust note pretty important tho.

Will def jot down the brake lines and do that once I pick one up
>>
>>17025403
Not bad for trailer pulling. Just pulled a light tandem axle with a golf cart today, and it did just fine.

But I just want more power out of it and am looking to do some stuff to it. Also the 4L60E can go for any reason without warning. If you're gonna haul consistently with one of those get a trans cooler. It will save your ass.

And I just have factory manifolds and cats then dumped under truck and it sounds pretty good. Looking at long tubes and catless Y soon tho.

American telephone lines are bigger than European lines. Because, you know, the average american weighs more than the average euro
>>
>>17023896
>80%

The concrete cowboys who drive jacked up King Ranch F250s in the city sure as shit don't have no trailers. They're just in it for the image and the ability to bully smaller cars around.
>>

>For example when you wanna bury telephone lines from the street to your house without turning half your property into a pit mine.
Wouldn't you just use a trencher for that?
>>

Or better yet, wouldn't the telephone/cable company be the ones doing the work?

New trucks have embarrassingly small beds and they're too high. Like whats the point? Have you ever loaded something into a new truck? It's a total pain, they're way too tall, you have to lift whatever it is way up. You can't even fit a couch in them without it sticking 3 feet out the back. I know there's extended beds, but even those seem smaller than they used to be. All those older trucks that were actually for work are great, they're low to the ground for easy loading and the bed is really long that you can close the tailgate in most cases.

I worked at Lowes a while back, and those new ones are nothing but trouble, I can't fuckin stand them. I always cheered whenever the truck was an old shitbox, they're just way easier. Not to mention you've got all the boomers with the faggot KING RANCH ones or whatever that are standing around like wah dont scratch the bed. What the hell, if you're gonna be using this this for work, then get a pray coating or something.

Because fags keep buying them for the wrong reasons, thus expecting the wrong things of them. Back in the day a truck was little more than a simple, sturdy workhorse, basically four wheels, an engine, and lots of space to put your shit on/in. That's why they were cheap, because they were more akin to tools rather than automobiles. Nowadays, you can't get a truck that isn't riced up with all sorts of unnecessary bullshit, which of course props up the price like crazy.

like i said, new trucks are actually being treated as fat huge family sedans with beds that are being used like car trunks/boots with enough room to store a lot of luggage. I am talking about those four door short bed atrocities everyone on and their mother is buying now a days (pic related).

it would make a horrible choice using it as a regular working vehicle. I'd just stick to a single cab or extended cab with a long bed configuration, those will do.

Same, but I just can't see myself getting work done all at once effectively with a short bed truck. Not in my line of work.
>>
>>17028251
I like the short bed. I use my truck for a combo of off roading and towing, and the shorter bed makes off roading easier because of the shorter wheel base. As for towing short bed/long bed doesn't matter.

So dont be retarded, restore the truck for 10-20k vs a new truck for double the price. Dont believe normies, it's infinitely cheaper to keep an old car running and pristine than buy a new one

>>
>>17028659
I see. guess we all have our different uses for trucks. longer beds just feels like the better option because of it's viability work wise. Either that or a flatbed.
>>
>>17021138
nigga you daily a motorcycle
>>
>>17028738
I really don't use my bed too much honestly. It is nice though because we are renovating our bathroom and the 5'5 bed is plenty for hauling drywall and crap like that.
>>
>>17028695
I've never really understood the whole 'you need a long bed to haul lumber'. I've hauled several pieces of wood for our bathroom renovation and I usually just put the long pieces in the bed with the end sticking through the back window. Or leave the ends hanging off the tailgate and just tie the pieces down. There's really no need for the extra foot unless it's a work truck.

Yeah for the 4cyl/V6 2WD model. Going to 4x4 and the bigger engine adds another $10k. Which still isn't that bad compared to what a mid size sedan costs.

On the toyota? It's a meme.
>>

No, on the Nissan. Everyone knows that Toyota truck reliability isn't the same as it was in the early 2000s. Even Consumer Reports pointed out the Tacoma's reliability went to shit as of late.

>>17030598
If the nissan is reliable it's only because it's under-capable.
