I have a trunk lid that I'm going to use to replace the rusted one that's currently on my car but it needs to be painted and I'm thinking of trying to do it myself. Now I've never done automotive paint before so obviously it's going to end up looking like shit but my question is just how shit can I expect it to be?

Do you guys think one of these car shelters would work for a temporary paint booth?

Yes, it should be okay as long as the weather is nice.
I have everything but the spray gun. If you have a good base how hard is it to get a respectable paint job?

What is the best weather for painting? Warm and dry air?
I do.

no wet and windy, in a floridian hurricane for best results

You need a garage -or at least some sort of carport. Then you need a lot of old bed sheets.
So you basically make a cabin out of these sheets hanging from the roof. They should reach all the way down to the floor and be weighted down so they cannot reach the c from wind. Them get the garden hose and wet the sheets until they are as wet as if you had used them in making a water sports port movie.
The wet sheets coolest the dust and inside you can paint.
