whats with people getting bikes that were literally made for 12 year olds and riding them on the roads?
>>
>>17006315
Going full throttle is fun.
>>
>>17006315
>>17006320

This. Some of the most fun I've ever had on the road was with a 200cc bike. You can ride it balls out all the time, whereas something larger like a 650+ requires practicing a little restraint if you don't want to die or get it impounded.

That's why I like bikes in the 500-700 range. It's a good balance of capability without a lot of wasted potential.
>>
>>17006315
Whats with european governments limiting adults to bikes that were literally made for 12 year olds and forcing them to ride them on the roads for years?
>>
>bike dies after idling for a while
>goes away after a week
>bike starts cutting out power (not entirely, just like my fuel ran out completely) then surging forward like nothing's wrong
>only happens for 2 days, goes away for 4 weeks
>bike starts very very rarely not giving full power when opening throttle for roll-on acceleration, but then surges forward like nothing's wrong
>happens every ride for the past week, but clears up mid-ride

I initially thought carbs, then valves or electrical, but valves/electrical wouldn't be so unpredictable in when they decide not to work, right? I would always have the low power problem, and it wouldn't clear up mid ride.

So, fuel filter/carb problem anons?

Probably a carb issue. I'd say get a can of carb cleaner, take it off, open it up and make sure your jets are clear and everything is moving the way it should. Could also be that your float level is set too low, so under some circumstances it's running out of fuel.

Of course, could be a clogged fuel petcock / inline fuel filter or something too.

Did the bike sit for a few months or did you get a tank full of shitty gas recently or something?

My bike sat for about 6 months, and the next time I started it up it idled ok. Until I tried to turn the choke off, or so much as touched the throttle. Then it would die.

Turns out my jets were about 70% clogged with crud. Cleaned it out, runs like a dream now.
>>
>>17006433
Bike sat for ~6 months before I bought it. Cheers for the advice
>>
>>17006455

No problem.

You'll want to make sure the slide and needle are clean of crud and moving smoothly. Also check to make sure the float is moving the way it should.

The most important bit is the jets. I don't know what carb you have, but it's probably got two jets. A "pilot" jet and a "main" jet. Blasting carb cleaner through them might clean them out, but if they're super clogged you might need a small pin or something.

Might not be a bad idea to check the fuel filter if there is one or to take the tank off and clean it out either, depending on how bad it is.

Motorcycle community is a mixed bag. Motocross guys tend to be douchebags, but dual sport and trail riders are some of the most chill people you'll meet. Harley riders are often obnoxious or just fudds, sport bike riders are all over the place.

It's still better than the firearms community. I love guns and shooting, but god do I hate the community.

THESE ARE COMPLETE FUCKING MEMES

I REPEAT

THESE ARE COMPLETE FUCKING MEMES

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BUY THESE PILE OF SHIT SHOES

These shoes have an inherent design flaw and it's being covered up by buyer's remorse shills all over the internet. The single strap running across the middle of the foot is not effective enough to provide a snug fit. You need to either have laces, an additional metatarsal strap, or some other mechanism to tighten the shoe. The current design is highly likely to make the shoe come off in a serious crash. The flare at the top is too wide, provides zero support, and makes for very inconsistent sizing.

These are very comfortable. That is about it. They are shit for everything else. Do not get them. Buy the full boot with proper lacing.

Hah, I love seeing bikes like these. I had a very similar SV pop-up locally and I always get a kick out of how much money was invested into the thing.

Those Penske shocks are like...$1,000+ new

Those rearsets and power commander are probably another $500

I am not a fan of salvage titles personally. A bike's purpose can change throughout its life and a salvage title pretty much prevents that. So you're left hoping you can find some autist that appreciates what you've done to the bike and then hoping they have the money to buy it.

F4I has more power and is better to stunt with. I'd go with the F4i..preferably one with a clean title

To me it's like the equivalent of trying to concealed carry a .50 desert eagle because 'its better'. Like yeah it is in a specific set of circumstances, but thats not applicable to 90% of how you will use it.

What's the best/fastest supermoto you can buy that doesn't require constant maintenance, doesn't cost a gorillian dollars, and isn't an antique with 17" wheels slapped on it? Can be a converted bike or factory SM.

Even the fastest real supermotos are turds in the speed department, these are bikes that top out around 100mph and usually have less than 40hp.

A fast supermoto is probably slower than most 500-650cc starter bikes by a good margin.

I see no reason a beginner couldn't start on a "faster" supermoto.

It's like saying a DR650 or a DRZ is "too fast" for someone to start on.

I don't consider the fastest bike at the end of the straight the fastest bike though. That's the great thing about bikes. There's so many different options to put down the power. Good reason to have many also. Some day you may wanna win the stop light race. One day you may wanna rev somethings balls off. You may want 3rd gear power wheelies. Or a beefy midrange. Or that turbo like top end hit of a liter.

The Mercedes that cut me off ran over my foot. My boot stopped my ankle from being broken.

This was in October. I couldn't walk right for a couple weeks.

Nothing at that price point that's comfy to walk in is going to be much more protective than a pair of 8" work boots.
I'm a huge fan of the Dainese TRQ Tour boots for daily use, and the rest of those style boots that Dainese sells.
I used to have some Alpinestars Ridge boots that were comfy and waterproof but they weren't much more than padded work boots with slim soles.

They make about 30hp at the wheel and weigh about 350lbs. They are slower to 60 than a WR250R, and WRR's are not fast by any stretch.

most racers shift like that because they have great legs from all the cycling and are used to dirt boots where you can't move your ankle much.

It's also a really powerful positive motion that will make not shifting correctly basically impossible.

On my dirt bikes it is convenient to shift like that because my boots are stiff as fuck and that's the only way I can move the lever all the way.
On my street bike that's convenient because the shift lever has a really long throw, so I have to pick up my foot to make sure I kick it all the way into gear so it doesn't get caught in false neutral or pop out of gear

They cost more than the parts that will probably get broken in an accident they would be effective for on my bike and put the load into parts that cost way the fuck more. There is a certain range of drops I'd come out ahead but plenty I would come off worse from buying them, and that's assuming I actually crash at all.

One complaint is that if you are going 80mph on the free way you are at about 6500 of the 8500 RPM range in 6th gear. Also it's exhaust is silent, which is boring for the day time, but great for those night rides where you just want to relax.
