An SUV has wider space around the seat areas for both the driver and passenger. But your problem is the fat area in FRONT of your body. At some point, there simply is not enough reach from your arms to the 10AM and 2PM positions on the steering wheel such that your elbows remain in the crooked position. It is that crooked position that gives you more response rate on the wheel if there is an impending emergency swerve needed.

Regardless of how wide the seats are for supporting your weight, there will always be a maximum seat back limit as you've already noticed with your seat all the way back in the F-150. Your arms are totally extended straight forward to the steering wheel. Moving to a different truck isn't going to solve the problem.

There's really no solution except losing the weight. However, at 540 pounds, when you lose the weight thru surgery (stomach clip, lipo, etc) instead of diet and exercise, you will have large folds of skin hanging all over your body.

The F-150 already doesn't "fit" in many parking spaces in my city. It technically fits, but its sides either fill out the entire width of the spot or its length fills up the entire parallel parking space. So other cars cannot park next to you without you dinging them or them dinging you.

But with 500 pounds, you and your wife have to open the doors fully wide, so you probably already door ding everyone else. That's unfortunate.

If you move to a larger F350, it is basically unparkable in my city. But it is really a commercial vehicle and not a passenger vehicle.

There is NO need to buy a larger seat area car unless it is bench seating so that your fat spreads sideways instead being pushed forward by a bucket seat.

If you are serious about losing weight, then you'll be fitting better in the F-150 within one month from now. All you need to do is not guzzle down huge amounts at each meal. No more empty calorie drinks like sugar or high-fructose soda pops.

If you begin losing weight with a diet right away, then you and your wife will be fitting better a month from now. And even better two months from now. So there is no need to buy a new car just because of the next 3 months being inconvenient. Just tough it out.

Not OP, but there are such things as seat belt extenders. Just google "seat belt extension" and you'll see a variety of them sold.

The G-force inertia of 500 pounds might cause physical injury from the belt digging into the body. Flesh and bone does have economy of scale relative to the width of a belt. It's manageable with a 200 pound body and the seat belt. But a 500 pound body using that same width of seat belt could be hurt. It might have that effect of a string slicing through a block of cheese.

OP, I know it's been said before but you should probably focus on getting rid of that weight first. Trade in your F-150 for an F-350 in the meantime and go to a professional dietitian who can get you appointments with a nutritionist and a personal trainer. At that weight you won't live long enough to finish financing any vehicle, seriously. One of my former managers used to weigh 400+ pounds when he worked in fast food and managed to lose almost 250 pounds over about 3 years.
If you buy something more comfortable for yourselves right now there will be less incentive to start losing weight.

I'm fat, just under 125kg @ 175 cm (tfw manlet) and I have plenty of fucking room in my F-150. The thing is absolutely huge, and while it's a new model the previous gen isn't that much smaller. Would a person have to be well over 230kg or something to be unable to comfortably fit in a new-ish F-150?

Any evaluation of the size of a person outside a vehicle fails. Let's make some unofficial colloquial terms to make discussion easier. The distance from the front edge of the body to the spine is "Front Distance". The distance from the thigh bone to the top of the leg's flesh is "Thigh Distance".

When sitting down, the Thigh_Distance increases due to pressure with the seat. This is why fat people have to keep their legs apart too. When the shoulder seat belt is applied, at some points, the sideways restrictions by the belt squeezes some fat forward thus the Front_Distance increases. Also, when sitting, the large paunch no longer droops over the trouser belt line but rests on top of the thighs. This increases the Front_Distance.

Thus, a morbidly obese person has a larger Front_Distance when sitting in a vehicle than if they are sitting on a sofa.
