Isn't the whole point of cars, like the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro that they're all reasonably affordable with a massive inventory of aftermarket parts that lets you spend however much, or how little you want?
The idea that you can work and "build", squeezing every ounce of bhp out of the car and make something truly unique and personal for the driver and owner.

It's a testament to how well a car can put it's power down. You only need a fuck huge engine to do 60-150, but for a good 0-60 and 1/4 mile times you need a fuck huge engine AND beefy components to handle the shock AND sticky tires AND appropriate suspension etc etc. It's a much more interesting metric, even if it is pretty useless when doing highway pulls or evaluating the driveability of it.

Actually, point of fact, a 392 can be built into a 1000hp car for about thirty thousand worth of aftermarket parts and labor. If you get a used 392 (which averages 25-28k) that puts you at about 60k in overall budget.

A 426 striker kit and a good supercharger installation is all that's really necessary to match power. A big brake kit and suspension tuning will get it on the same level of handling and control.

You're looking at significantly more brutal of a launch and loss because of a lack of transbrake and shit, but it's doable. Reliability may be a question, but it depends on what you reinforce and where.

Also, there's that one asshole with the twin turbo stroker Pentastar with weight reduction that runs mid 8s...
