Do what's called club foot. Big toe on brake, pinky on gas. It's what I do. Also consider raising your gas pedal, just be careful that you don't hit the gas when you need to brake.

it's doable on my ranger but the synchros are absolute shit so it may or may not go into gear sometimes.
