What faired bikes have easy to remove fairings? I love my half faired bikes but touring in the cold and wet is fucking shit.

Only problem is all the faired bikes I've worked on had really involved and stressful procedures for accessing regular things like valve covers and carburettor nipples.

I remember reading about how for some actress they made a catsuit with a latex exterior but based on a textile (nylon, maybe?) "base." They painted latex over it and worked it until it was uniform and then shined the living hell out of it. Either way, it certainly wouldn't provide any armor. I can't think of any materials that could duplicate the look but with actual protection.

I'm sure they could do it, but it would be VERY expensive. On the other hand you could just make a custom tailored, super tight, leather race suit. You'd have to get it measure to fit the exact person tho.

I think of the first time I ever saw one.
I was in a car in the middle lane and a guy on an R6 was in the right lane. he wanted to pass on right but we were coming up on a slow car in the right. I slowed down for a sec so he could get by and he waved at me.

I've got a question guys, what is your biggest hazard that you encounter on the roads where you ride? Excluding retarded drivers of course, that's a given. For me it's roads suddenly covered in thick mud with no warning signs.
>>

Retarded pedestrians. They don't perceive bikes as a threat so they don't perceive them at all sometimes.

So I think I saw someone Bitching about it a while back, why do you guys dislike engine breaking? Works pretty well if you gently use brakes as well to indicate you're slowing down.
>>
>>16990115

No idea, only problem is when there's a car or something behind you and there's no indication of a speed change as there's no brake lights. Other than that I don't see a problem, I always use it.

Yes. Ive heard of them towing bikes with tail tidy kits before, just for having non-SAE approved signals and reflectors. Granted the rider was probably lipping of but still.

City cops here have absolute hate boners for motorcycles. Ive even heard of them giving tickets for tail tidys using d.o.t reflectors, because they still dont meet canadian standards. They even carry around db checkers to make sure your exhaust isnt about 92db (250-4000$ ticket)

I need to move.

>>
>>16989703

>>
>>16990192
Probably not sae approved. Im keeping the stock back one, remounting it to where the china reflector is. The two back side ones are not legally required as long as you have the back one, but they will still sometimes give you a ticket for "modifying factory equipment," regardless of whether or not it still falls within the confines of the law.

Im #yoloing it and getting aftermarket signals anyways, but at least thats all they can ticket me for.

does that thing have a kick start?

whats the make and model?
is it a 12 volt system?
some scooters run 6 volt, if yours is one that does then you've blown a couple of fuses and possibly the recifier.
never jump from a car anyway the ampage is way too much for your wiring.

why did it not start?
did you check the plug, see if it was wet? if its wet check the spark, if its dry check the fuel system
how old is the scooter?
if its got a kick start STOP relying on the button start and get into the habit of kicking it every time.

pic related is mine.
>>
>>16990483
Amperage doesn't matter, both are probably 12V
>>
>>16990495
Kymco 500 Xciting Ri. I don't know why it didn't start, maybe because I left it out last night and it was covered in mist?

I don't know if it has a kick start.
>>
>>16990518

on the side stand or main stand?
>>
>>16990528
if you left it over night on the side stand you'll have drained the fuel from the carb and fuel system.
if this is the case it needs a "shoogle" to re-prime it.

take the scooter off the stand
stand astride it holding onto the handlebars
lean the scooter as far as it is comfortable to the left, hold it for 10 seconds
straighten it up and now hold it to the right for 10
repeat 3 or 4 times
now put the scooter on the main stand
push down on the rear tll the back wheel touches the floor, hold for 10 and release
repeat 3 or 4 times.
using the kick start turn the engine over 3 or 4 times with the ignition OFF
take the plug out, it should now be wet and smell of fuel.
plug back in, ignition on , use the kick start and see if it'll fire up

>>
>>16990624
If you know how much fuel the bike holds, and you have a good idea of how many mpgs it gets, you'll be fine. Once you reach a certain mileage, out fuel in.

If it's carbed you have a petcock so you'll have to flip it when the bike died and then you have 20-30 miles to refill
>>
>>16990624

Not that much of a problem to be honest, just keep an eye on your mileage and you should be fine. My current bike has a fuel gauge but the one I plan on getting doesn't, it really isn't a problem.

Ask for the stock linkage because lowered bikes usually handle funny.
>what to look for
The chain is probably going to look dirty. It's a dirt bike. Bent levers aren't that big of a deal either. They're like $10 each. As long as the chain doesn't have seized links and the sprockets aren't severely hooked then I wouldn't worry about those.
Ask him to not run the bike before you show up. Check that the engine is actually cold and then see how easily it cold starts. Give it a test ride and make sure everything works fine once it warms up.

I'd also say always look for sketchy aftermarket wiring in used bikes, but that shouldn't be an issue on an MX bike.

I guess it depends on how much weight you plan on putting on it as well as how you're attaching the gear to the bike. I've gone camping on my klx250 several times, had no real issues. It makes the bike handle differently (Obviously) and going over terrain is more difficult, but not impossible. If you plan on packing out a moose kill all at once, well, that might be a problem.

Pit it on a stand with both tires off the ground, wiggle them and make sure wheel bearings are still good, and spin the tires and check for wobbles (bent rims). Make sure the motor is cold when you go so you can see if it has issues starting. Push on the bars too so the forks compress and see if they are leaking oil

You can use a car battery for a jump, just don't have the car running. The cars alternator might fry your battery. Or blow your main fuse. Which is what I think happened to you. Check near The positive terminal on your battery for a blown 20 or 30 amp fuse. Everything should work after you replace that.

Unless there is an obvious fix that can be testd (e.g. dead battery), price for not running is 600 and less.
