Why would you want that? I want them to be waterproof ALL the time and not having to worry about the cover flying off.
How do they keep up in a crash? Because mine took a beating before one hook breaking after like 20 years.

Icon helmets are made by J-tech, in Korea. Been around since the Nineties, Snell approved products, etc. Not china.

Really? I have the "Xspeed" branded version and I like it. Not as light as my KTM branded Marushin, but more comfy around the ears, and quieter.

It's loud as fuck and has terrible aerodynamics. My next one will be an arai or shoei, something that has been actually designed for aerodynamics. Also the ventilation is shit.

Honestly, if you have the cash, try to spend that extra 150 on a good name brand. The safety rating might be the same, but the actually quality of riding won't be. If you really don't want to sirens much, I'd get a shoei qwest

https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/

Some people actually care about their heads.

Also comfort/ventilation/design/features/fit is something earphones won't improve. On top of that if you're riding for a lot of hours even with heavy duty foam plugs you're still going to give your ears a battering while travelling at speed in a noisy helmet.

DOT/Snell/etc. are bare minimum standards for safety. If you want to know which helmets are actually the safest you need to look at the SHARP test or something similar which actually shows you how the helmets perform in crash tests.

You don't buy second hand helmets because once they've sustained an impact they should be retired. You never know how many times a second hand helmet has been dropped or hit.

With every second hand bike I had I made 800$+ each when I sold them

Get the NXR, I've got the XR1100 (previous version) and its been the shit. Loads of vents to keep you cool in the summer, great field of view and aerodynamic properties. You should be more concerned with getting a helmet that fits your head, rather than specific brand/markings

BS. Snell had nothing to do with Dexter Ford being fired. That was between the magazine and some customers. Ford has some personal problem with Snell, perhaps Don Becker fucked his wife. Whatever it was, he's pushing an theory about it that doesn't match reality.

The Snell standards allow for far less impact to the brain than DOT, and includes a quality assurance program. DOT is self-certify, and yes, there are makers who self-certify without any testing (ACC comes to mind).

I bought one, close to twenty years ago. I stopped wearing it after I got married and fat. It's not the most stylish thing, but it held up great. Their "cowhide" isn't moo-cow, it's Water Buffalo cow, which is a little softer and stretchier than moo-cow, and breaks in quickly. Real YKK zippers on mine, and Schoeller keprotec for the fabric panels.

Since that doesn't fit anymore, I'm wearing some made-in-China JR pants, and an Icon jacket. They're a lot heavier, all I can say about them really.

In the UK the price difference is £2.5k (£7.5/£10k) and you get an extra cylinder/60hp, basically a naked version of a 10 year old R1. The MT09 is great value though coming with a load of rider aids/quickshifter as standard

Hey /dbt/, what is the best way to tell if you need an oil change? I bought a used bike a month ago which had its oil changed at the shop. My oil now looks pretty dark, but it shouldn't be due for another oil change, based on the maintenance schedule, for awhile.

The bike had been sitting for many years before I bought it. The delear had rebuilt the carbs and cleaned out the tank, but I wonder if there is anything else which could have dirtied the oil so fast.

I stuck a length of para-cord into my cylinder to lock it up so that I could remove the flywheel nut because my flywheel tool is too big for this bike. I got the nut off, but the tip of the cord must have gone into a port because the very end sheared off. There's probably a couple thin threads, basically the size of a few hairs inside my cylinder. How imperative is it that I remove them? It's a two stroke shitbike if it matters.

Honestly I like the 09 better. I tried the 10, and it's good- but something about the 09 is very appealing to me. Plus, it's under 10k and I can finance something like that without feeling nervous about it. It goes plenty fast for me and has a FUCKload of torque. With TC off I was popping power wheelies like they were nothing.

I know that a tiny bit of flammable, soft material in your combustion chamber will do one of two things. It will either burn, or it will get pushed out during exhaust.

A little bit of string won't cause your cylinder to collide with the head, and it isn't like your kx is very high compression anyway

My next thing was to see if the plugs were sparking but it wasnt obvious how to get to them and was running out of daylight.

The battery was pretty flat when I started this but I figure if the thing can crank with a jump, it would make sparks too. So.... what else could it be? I find it unlikely that it'd be all 4 plugs went bad, so what could be failing on my bike that would cause all 4 plugs to not spark?

Get a KDX 200, or a 220. 200 is marginally better, 95+ is best years but barely matters at all. Light enough, enough power, smooth power band, basically never need to maintain it.

A 250 MX bike (YZ,RM,CR,KX) is not a great choice for woods riding and fucking around, way too fast unless you're pretty experienced, power is like having a huge turbo that doesn't spool until 5k, suspension sucks. You can mod it to make it work but basically not worth it unless you get the bike for cheap as fuck. My KX250 was $500, only reason I'm putting the $500+ into it to make it usable.

To whoever it was that posted this:

>If you do this you will get corrosion on every surface of the carburetor.

I've cleaned a few thousand bucks worth of carbs in shop and at home from various makes with Pine-Sol, washed them off with hot water then blown them dry. MANY others have done so and it's amply documented over many years.

It doesn't bother aluminum, zinc or plastic. The slight black crud some goo turns into brushes off easily which is the point. Citric acid in lemon juice is popular too. Some use Simple Green. All work in ultrasonic (vibratory really) cleaners or plain tubs.

If you managed to corrode a carb doing that I'm impressed and curious.

I tried this, it didn't work that well for me after 2 days of soaking. What really did the trick was boiling the carbs in a solution of 1 part lemon juice, 5 parts water. It really did the trick

It's probably a little softer than my KX, which is 10 years newer, and I've read that the KX is the least friendly of the bunch. It wouldn't be so bad if I was skilled, but my bike is definitely not a woods weapon in stock form.
>>
>>16981176
Yeah my rear shock is super soft after so manybyears of abuse so it probably helps alot desu. A new rear tire is first on my list right now cause mine is bald

Going down hard packed washboard trails last weekend my front end was like a pain shaker, couldn't feel my hands after a bit. Was worse than my DRZ SM suspension somehow.

I really need to get my shit revalved, luckily the springs are good for my weight.

Is a MSF course actually worth it or is it just gonna slam me a couple hundred dollars for nothing? Does it actually lower insurance rates and if so, is it considerable/cost efficient?

Who here top mechanic? I got a bike with 2 brake discs on the front wheel. The problem is the wheel is slightly bound. When i put the bike on centre stand and the wheel in the air it doesn't spin freely, i can turn it by hand but it resists. I can roll the bike around in neutral, but there is resista ce. After riding i touched the discs and one was cold, the other slightly warm, so i assume it's one of the calipers doing this and not the wheel bearing. Any possible diagnoses and or remedies?
