Cars are pits you cast money into endlessly. You trade long hours of work and fits of absolute rage and disgust for the enjoyment you get when it actually runs.
That being said, I love my project.

4 wheels> 2 wheels
>>16977423
>more reliable
Trust me, I work at a go kart track and go karts are not reliable.
>>16977423
Karts arent reliable. They are just easy to fix.
I wouldnt call them cheap either. Always throwing money at them.
Btw 2 wheels > 4 wheels
>>16977765
Honda pre built karts last forever and require way less servicing than any street bike
With four wheels and dead low COG's they outcorner that shit out of any garbage like >>16977782

>Get a generic Golf 4 with the 90 bhp ALH engine for 1500 euros
>Tune that engine to 131 bhp for 250 euros
>Now you got a sledgehammer
For less than 2000 euros.
>inb4 peasants revolt : The 1.9TDI PD from VW has a non-linear power-band and when the turbo kicks in you will charge to Warp Factor 9.
Pretty sturdy and economical engine too.

Racing karts/shifter karts =/= slow ass lawnmower- engined indoor karts. Pic related (Rotax DD2 EVO engine) needs basically no maintenance and set me back around 4500 euros for the used chassis and engine.
With the right gear ratio you can hit almost 150 km/h on the straights.
Also, if you live in the US, I've heard that the Briggs & Stratton LO206 engines are really cheap and there are loads of classes that race it.

Yep, there are a ton of classes that use the Briggs motors. Stupid cheap, you just need a good chassis and gearbox if you want a shifter. Most classes that use that motor are TAG however. Any of those single cylinder motors are stupid easy to work on too.
I know in some areas here you can get an older used shifter kart for under $5000

That's the spirit.
