I'd really love to own something so lightweight and RWD. It's just the right size too, any more compact or any bigger and I think it'd miss the mark. It's kinda why I can't really like the GT86/BRZ as much, it's just fucking huge by comparison.

nope, all those cars are trash, esp if we are talking about aftermarket. the only car that is cheaper and probably faster but also still somewhat comparable to it is a 1st gen Miata. Sure its not a hatch, but its a light weight low hp rwd car with flip up head lights that has a huge aftermarket.

S12's are heavy POS. 924, well its a fucking clapped out Porsche. and the others you listed arent even worth mention

Depends on what you want to use it for and what reliability you want. The corolla isnt very comparable to those. Miata sort of is, but it's a more forgiving car to drive. The s12 only looks like an ae86, but it's heavy as fuck somehow and I've heard not nearly as fun to drive without serious work. I feel like the others in your list have totally different dynamics.

MR2 or an FX16 could be good alternatives if you're OK with MR and FF.

But the miata's close enough. More reliable and less of a rare special snowflake so you don't have to care as much about what happens to it.

Push in the dial & turn all the way to the right. You have to have your keys set to on but it'll flip a relay & you'll be in always up mode. And use the other 90° of the the 180° turning radius of the switch.

Won't drain your battery at all after you take your keys out & leave it all the way to the right. But you will need your keys in ignition to push in the dial & close then again.

If I read right, people in Japan would buy up AE85s and perform various mods to "convert" them to AE86s, because it'd be much cheaper to do it that way rather than finding an AE86.

There's probably an alternate reality ending of Initial D where Itsuki, after growing up, learns more about cars and performs this long, elaborate conversion himself, and is Takumi's final battle instead of yet another AE86.

Sucks harder for them because the AE85 came with a K50 transmission. At least our SR5s got the same T50 as in the GTSs. But you have to swap out the whole rear-end, drums to discs, and wiring harness for the conversion. It's usually more economically viable to get an actual GTS than try to convert an SR5 or buy up someone else's failed project.

I saw so many failed or partial GTS conversions being sold on CL.
