For an engine that was more or less only ever innovated and engineered on by one company, and for an engine that lived 50 years, it didn't do too bad. It makes me wonder how much different it would've been if GM, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, and even AutoVAZ, continued research. GM claimed to have made an engine with an estimated life expectancy of 500K miles, of course it's probably bullshit, but I wonder what kind of technologies they would've used.

According to wikipedia, the 26B engine with three spark plugs per chamber reduced fuel consumption significantly. If this is true, why didn't Mazda do this on other rotary engines like the 13B to avoid the fuel economy and emissions problems that made them put their rotary program on hold? Was it not as significant an improvement in the world of public roads as it was on at the track?

they had a motormount failure issue, dealers had no idea about rotary and would replace the engine. the reman engines they were getting were rebuilt wrong and contantly failing, requiring more engine replacements.

What the fuck are you talking about, anon? Even if you have a seal go pop (which you shouldn't if you're not using cheap chinese-made seals, usually they just kind of come unseated and you lose compression/power over time) it doesn't do catastrophic damage.

The first one sounds like a lemon from the factory.
They happen sometimes with any car manufacturer.
The second one does happen with rotaries. It's one of the biggest design flaws, but I think Mazda fixed that after 2006.
Moral of the story really is not buying the first model of a new series of cars. Shit always goes wrong.
