Hey guys, my buddy owns a bike shop and I want to get my son a starter bike.
We've been unable to decide between an R3, Cbr300, or a Ninja 300.
We're thinking of getting a used one since its his starter bike and they don't hold their value well.
I'm telling him the Honda is crap and to go with either the Kawasaki or Yamaha
My buddy has a couple of each 2015 models with decent mileage.
What's better? The Yamaha R3 or Kawasaki Ninja 300?

Neither. CBR500R or KTM RC390.

8k in insurance ...yeah, good idea.

They're all shit.
That being said, the Ninja 300 has been around longer so there'll be more used examples around and they'll be cheaper than the R3.
You're most likely not gonna keep it forever so no real point spending big bucks on the bike itself.

CBR500R's are shit. Heavy, no cornering clearance and an anemic uninspiring engine.

op, starting bike is a meme
buy him h2
used sv650
v twin, smooth powerband, enough power that they wont get bored with it after a month and crash it for something with more power
i learned on it, as have thousands of others
of the three you picked, none since they are all going to be crazy expensive compared to a ninja250. any of the ones you picked out will be outgrown in ~1month as they are tiny as fuck

My starter bike.
>inb4 "hurr durr you're a retard for getting a 125".

get a gixxer 600, that was my first bike and it was lovely, more than enough power to keep me entertained, looks great, just overall great bike

OP the bikes will hold their value well provided they aren't beat to shit.
Literally either are good. The ninja 300 is more prevalent and cheaper, take that as you will.

>don't hold their value
Wow, the US market is fucked.

Get dualsport. It wont be undersized, have good low speed grunt, takes dropping well and he'l be able to decide what he likes best - street or off-road.

not a retard, just a try hard that cares more about looking cool than anything.
Most people out grow that size bike a couple months unless they're bad at riding.
Maybe it is a good fit for you after all!

Yamaha. R3 is new but good, feels good to be on. It's a bit on the tall side compared to the cbr and ninja so check that first.
CBR is closer to a 250 or below.. For some reason those engines rev like shit. You're right to avoid it.
However, depending on where you are and what your son's insurance situation is, CBR might be the cheapest by far (to buy and insure). Where I live you can get a CBR 500 for less than an R3, and pay less for insurance.

Sometimes I think I would prefer a 300 or a 125 over my 650.
A) much cheaper.
B) around the city, on roads, with cops and other cars, I think a 125 might be more fun to throw around.
C) wouldn't car quite as much if I dropped it or fucked it up since.. It's a cheap little bike.
