Do you have any idea how much weight Mazda cut from the FD before its release? Some trims left the factory at under 2700 lbs, which could be reduced even more by removing power steering, AC, and other unnecessary features. Mazda even drilled holes in the pedals (common practice, I know) specifically for the weight savings.

Rotaries always seemed like a joke/novelty engine to me, like a sterling or turbine engine, yes you can get it to work in a car, but it's not a good application of the technology
